I was first inspired by author Jeri Smith-Ready who gave away 20 signed copies of "Bad To The Bone" for donations of $15 to Doctors Without Borders. I had a little contest on this blog giving away “Frostbitten” by Kelly Armstrong and “Eternal Hunter” by Cynthia Eden. I donated $1 for every comment/entry left. Cynthia contacted me offering to sign her copies AND offer a total of 3 books to help raise more money. So I thought, “wouldn’t it be great if I could get one or two more authors on board and maybe offer up a collection of signed Paranormal/UF books to bid on….like an auction”. I looked to my own book shelf and favorite authors. I emailed seven of them expecting to hear from no one - but hoping for one or two. I now have ALL seven donating a total of 16 signed books! The list of authors involved so far: Ilona Andrews, Kelly Armstrong, Cynthia Eden, Angie Fox, Jeaniene Frost, Jeri Smith-Ready, and Gena Showalter !!
So here’s the plan:
Each week (starting tomorrow, Sunday 1/24/2010) I will be holding an auction to win SIGNED copies of books by various Paranormal/UF authors with all proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders. First up will be best selling author Kelly Armstrong, with 3 books from her Woman Of The Otherworld series.
How it’s done:
You place your bid by putting the dollar amount and your first name in the comment section. For example, if I wanted to bid $20, I would put “$20 Karen A” in the comment box. When the auction ends the winner will make a donation directly to Doctors Without Borders then send me the receipt and the books will be sent out to you (complete rules will be posted at the time of the auction). I participated in my first book auction last year at Leave A Mark Auctions last year. I had so much fun, and won three great books. I must say it became oddly addictive!
I know these are tough economic times and you may have already made a donation to help with Haiti relief efforts, but I hope you’ll join me in the next few weeks to have some fun, show your love for your favorite authors who so generously donated signed books, and raise money for a great organization!
Paranormal/Urban Fantasy readers are the most enthusiastic and loyal fans out there! It’s an auction so get in there…..have fun…..and bid whatever you can! Maybe you’ll win books from your favorite authors.
