Auction #5: Melissa Marr

Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.

Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty—especially if they learn of her Sight—and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.

Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.

Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.

But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost—regardless of her plans or desires.

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything.

Faerie intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr's stunning 21st century faery tale.

  3. I tried to find a contact email but couldn't find anything, so I'm commenting here.

FYI - I wrote up some notes in a blog post detailing some of my frustrations in trying to bid in this auction: http://saraheolson.com/2010/10/26/the-universe-is-out-to-get-me/

  4. [x-posted to Sarah's blog & here]

Well, actually, I do trust the universe, but sometimes you need to speak up to let the universe know what you need. Obviously, that doesn't always work, but it works better than not. Case in point: You spoke up. We have a good chance to turn something less pleasing into a good thing so how about this:

If you send my assistant (donna@melissa-marr.com) a receipt showing that you made a donation to RAINN (http://www.rainn.org/) that matches or beats the winning bidder, I'll send you a set of signed copies of the series*. It's a win-win situation: you get the books you are disappointed in not getting, a charity I support gets a donation. You don't HAVE To do this, but if you want to, the door is open.

Hope that gives you back a little more faith in the universe :)

    Melissa

*I don't have my author copies of MERCY yet, so you'll need to remind me to send it later. I'd tell you that I'll remember, but I'm insane during release, so I know I won't remember. Just email Donna.

  6. Melissa - I adore you. THANK YOU. I made a donation for $200 to RAINN and also sent in the form for my company matching program. Total donation = $400. I'll email Donna the receipt.

Also, universe, you rule. And thanks to Karen for hosting the contest and making all this awesomeness possible.

  7. Just thought i'd chip in here. I understand your frustration at certain things but wherever you go theres going to be different rules for different things also these contests are open internationally. I won the Kelley Armstrong auction, for me it ended at 4.59am (i googled what est time was because i'm in the uk). I set my alarm for 4.55 just to make sure i would win.

I'm 33, have 2 kids and a full time job but i love to read and Kelley is one of my fave authors, for me it was worth a bit of broken sleep not to mention the good that comes out of the donation. All good Karma!

All it really boils down to is - how badly do you want it???
