Contest time again!!
This week I'm giving away a book and music!
Why? You may ask....
Because the book is Shade by Jeri Smith-ready, (my favorite author) and if you know anything about Jeri - books and music go hand in hand. Read Jeri's awesome guest post at The Book Smugglers to see what I mean.
A band I discovered this year is Mumford & Sons. If you haven't heard them yet please go listen to them!!
I wrote a post about them back in June (you can read it HERE) and my love for them has only grown.
Their debut CD Sigh No More reminds me so much of Logan from Jeri's Shade series that I often find myself in tears when I'm listening to it on my walks. (I wear big sunglasses to avoid embarrassment). It's an album of love, loss, and redemption....just gorgeous.
Jeri has been listening to Sigh no More to help her write Logan's story for an upcoming anthology.
I get to see them in concert this week - which leads me in a round about way to the contest. I want to share the love for two of my favorite things!
Here's the video for Mumford & Sons new release The Cave
*admittedly, not my favorite video but beautiful song*

Good Luck!
I've wanted to read Shade for a while and I absolutely LOVE Mumford & Sons! Little Lion Man is one of the best songs! Whenever I read any Ellen Hopkins books I think of The Killers, esp. their song Shadowplay. And Taking Back Sunday and There's Us by Alexz Johnson are perfect songs for the Twilight Series.

Wow, I LOVE Mumford & Sons and have heard only brilliant reviews about Shade.
ReplyDeleteAs to your question, this may be lame but, whenever i hear Queen's - Who wants to live forever it always reminds me of Stephanie Meyer's Breaking Dawn. :)

This is such an awesome contest! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I listen to the song Afterglow , for some reason it reminds me a lot of The Constant Gardner by John Le Carre.

First, I love Mumford & Sons :D I found them through fan made playlists for the Mortal Instruments I think. :)
ReplyDeleteThe band Red always reminds of The Mortal Instruments, most of their songs anyways, especially Never Be the Same :D

Hmm... I don't really associate any songs with books I've read...mainly because I can't concentrate on both at one...for me, reading time is chill time, so no music playing.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to participate, thanks for opening it up to us international folks.

Not really...I just read them for what they are. :/ Music and books don't go together too well for me.

Thanks for the giveaway and for opening it to worldwide entries.
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated.
I don't really have any book/music tie up except for 2001 - A space Oddyssey. I always remember the theme tune of Thus Spake Zarathustra.

Love the song! It's good! I don't really listen to much music, other then what I listen to that's on the radio. So when I read books, songs really don't come to mind. I think I'm in the minority with that, lol. It seems every blog or something they always talk about books and music together, they're seperate things to me. Thanks for the giveaway!

Books and music just do not connect in my mind as they are so totally different BUT I always get all nostalgic about the Rocky Horror Picture Show's Time Warp - I can never persuade Husband dearest to dance and yet he will always 'dance' to this if our niece happens to be there when it is played so I'm always reminded of them both whenever I hear it.

Sorry, but I don't listen to much music. I prefer reading quietly and get absorbed in the fantastical world of words.

No, not really I guess. I kind of uhm put them seperately, and I don't listen to anything when I read. Unless you count this time when I was reading a scary book and I was putting Katy Perry's Teenage Dream to reduce the scariness LOL, but when I listen to the song I don't really think of the book.

Absolution by Muse reminds me of The Host, especially the song Falling Away with You. I was constantly playing it at the time I was reading the book that's why it stuck in my head. I don't think it has any reference to the storyline though. :-)

I'm not that much into music, so I don't really ever think of songs or bands when I'm reading. I also don't like to listen to music when I'm reading - it's too much of a distraction that takes me away from the words. Does that make me one dimensional?
ReplyDeleteAmazingly enough, though, I have heard Mumford and Sons and liked them enough to actually make an effort to remember who they were (most bands don't make that much of an impression on me LOL). Would love to win a copy of Shade.

ReplyDeleteI listen to Tool when I read the Dresden Files books so every time I hear it I think of bad ass wizards :-)
Ok, my answer will be very silly but it's true, it happens that My Stupid Mouth by John Mayer always reminds me of Pride and Prejudice! ahahah I think it's obvious why! xD
ReplyDeleteMy stupid mouth
Has got me in trouble
I said too much again
To a girl at the assembly yesterday
And I could see
She was offended
She said "Well, anyway, I wouldn't dance with him for all of Derbyshire."
(Yes I changed the lyric a bit, this is how I sing-a-long xD)

I love reading books and listening to music but not at the same time, this is probably why I don't have songs that I associate with books. Count me in anyway please? Thanks for making this international.

I don't listen to music while I read (too distracting), but certain songs do sometimes remind me of specific books or fictional characters.
ReplyDeleteFor some odd reason, anytime I hear Beyonce's Halo it makes me think of the Twilight Saga.
:)
I love wakey!wakey!.I listened to their music while reading Mortal Instruments and it kind of stuck with it. Now everytime I hear one of their songs I immediately imagine Jace :D

Thank you for the giveaway! The book/song connection I have is listening to Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit while I read Stupid and Contagious by Caprice Crane. The title does come from the lyrics and there are mentions of the band and Kurt in the book.

I have a hard time listening to music and reading. Although when I listen to classic music I can picture scenes from books. The books I catch myself picturing scenes from more frequently are His Dark Materials trilogy. Something about the relationship between Lyra and Will is so innocent and unknowing that I picture classical music carrying them along their journey. I love finding new music, can't wait to check out the band you suggested and I loved Shade, read it in one sitting. Can't wait for Shift!!!
ReplyDeletethere's a lot of commonalities between songs and books, not just any one in particular
ReplyDeletefor example, ones about love can be linked to particular relationships in different novels
i usually like to keep my music and novels different though, i consider music a short narrative on its own, so comparing the two is like comparing novels for me XD;
thanks for the giveaway!

I love Mumford & Sons! I love every song of theirs! The Cave is probably one of my favourites.
ReplyDeleteI never really think of any music when I'm reading probably because when I am reading I have my iPod on shuffle so I get a mix of everything when I'm reading.

ReplyDeletethank you for having this contest! Love The WVMP Radio series and also thanks to you The Mumfords!
What song reminds me of what book? Good one, do you lie awake at night thinking these up? Cruel woman!!!
OK, I'd have to say 'Children of the Sun' by Billy Thorpe reminds me of 'Ingrathering' by Zenna Henderson.
