"I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us." Franz Kafka
Which leads me to this week’s WoW pick, The Dark and Hollow Places by Carrie Ryan.
I first picked up Dead Tossed Waves (Forest of the Hands and Teeth book 2) because of the title and the cover. Then I realized it was part of a series and I had to read Forest of the Hands and Teeth first. For some reason the first book didn’t appeal to me but I’m a stickler for reading a series in order so I plowed on and read Forest of the Hands and Teeth one weekend.
I don’t think I’ve ever recovered and I never went on to read Dead Tossed Waves.Carrie Ryan is a fearless writer, taking the story where it needs to go even if it leaves this reader in blubbering heap.
I stopped at Forest of the Hnads and Teeth not because I didn’t love it (I did) but because I wanted to wait for the series to be finished and read the last two books together. That way I could buy stock in Kleenex and spend the weekend under the covers and hope that I am not an emotional wreck when I'm done reading.
I don’t have to wait too much longer. The Dark and Hollow Places (Forest of Hands and Teeth, Book 3) releases March 22, 2011.
What's your pick?
Hope you enjoy this when it comes out in a few weeks -- make sure the tissues are the really soft kind :)
ReplyDeleteI agree. These books were very emotional for me. I threw the book at one point in FoHaT. Dark and Hollow Places made me feel things for the characters and it was darker and had some WTH moments at the end but overall a good book.
ReplyDeleteI've heard from people that this is way more sad than Forest. Bring on the tissues! Great pick, sweetie!
ReplyDeleteOooh a Carrie Ryan book, great pick!

ReplyDeleteI Keept hearing all these great things about this series...I'm going to have to read it...Thanks for visiting my blog! I'm now following you :)
ReplyDelete*nods* She's a great writer, but I had to stop after Forest of Hands and Teeth. I don't go to fiction for pain, and these books are hefty suppliers of weepiness. *tears up at the memory*
ReplyDeleteSo what your all saying is that I need a truckload of Kleenex for this one?? LOL
