Silent Blade by Ilona Andrews

Silent BladeOld hatreds die hard. Old love dies harder.
On Meli Galdes’ home planet, the struggle for power is a bloody, full-contact sport—in business and on the battlefield. For years her lethal skills have been a valuable asset in advancing her family’s interests. She’s more than earned her right to retire, but her kinsmen have one last favor to ask.
Kill the man who ruined her life.
Celino Carvanna’s razor-sharp business acumen—and skills with a blade—won him the freedom to do as he pleases. There’s only one thing he can’t seem to control—his reaction to the mysterious woman who tantalizes his senses. Her eyes alone set his blood simmering, stirring ridiculous adolescent fantasies about breasts and honey. With a few words she dissects his soul. Who is she? And how does she slide so easily under his well-guarded skin?
It’s almost too easy to draw Celino within the kill zone. Meli plans to revel in him. Drink him in. Wring every drop of pleasure out of every moment.
And when she’s sure he belongs to her, she will finally repay a decade’s worth of pain—in a single, brutal dose of reality.

Warning: Contains a heroine who excels in moving targets, a hero who can’t get into her pants fast enough, and implant-enhanced sex (no, not that kind of implant…). (From Samhain Publishing)
My thoughts:
I'm not going to write a review for this one. It's a very short story - I read it in just a few hours - so I would be giving most of it away. The summary above pretty much tells you all you need to know anyway.
It would suffice to say that if you are a fan of Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels or The Edge series, you'll get a kick out of this one. It was a little shocking to read how bright & lush this world is. You'll know what I mean if you've read the other series by Andrews. Dark, gloomy and apocalyptic are the norm. Although there are flowers and yummy pastries, have no fear, you still get the authors trademark gritty writing style. I was stunned at how much emotion and world building was packed into this tiny book. There was also a bit more smex than a normal Ilona tale 0_0! I'm used to the torturous wait for Kate & Curran.....LOL
I love a good assassin story and there are way too few of them in my opinion. Add in Ilona Andrews mad world building skills and you got yourself the beginnings of a promising series IMO.
There is a neat little story about how this short story came to be on Ilona Andrews website HERE. I would love if more people found out about it and it became a series.
Give it a try - it's a very quick read. A tale of love & revenge, with a kick ass heroine.
You can buy it from Samhain Publishing or from Amazon: Silent Blade
*If your looking for more kick ass girl assassins, another favorite series of mine is Kelley Armstrong's Nadia Stafford series. Exit Strategy (Nadia Stafford Series, Book 1)Made to Be Broken (Nadia Stafford, Book 2)

*Please ignore my wonky font size discrepancies. Blogger is hating on me this week with formatting and such. *deep breaths*

  2. This sounds fun. I was able to pick up a few books by Ilona Andrews when Borders was going out of business, so I'm looking forward to getting familiar with her work.

  3. How cool that if she gets a good reader response she might turn it into a series - I love it when an author has the sway to do that sort of thing (especially if it's Ilona Andrews).

I love a good, hot assassin story, it sounds like one I'll pick up.
