Since it's ghost week we're naming our Favorite Ghosty things!
Ummm.....this is embarrassing. I don't have a lot of favorite ghosty things.
I suppose I enjoyed the movies Ghostbusters, Ghost and Casper when they came out but I don't consider them favorites. For books I love Stacia Kane's Downside Ghost series and Stacey Kade's Ghost and the Goth series.
My favorite actual ghost (is there such a thing??....yes there is!) is Logan Keeley from Jeri Smith-Ready's Shade series. Perfect reading for the Halloween season....hint....hint....
I love that boy in all his self absorbed glory! In fact, he'll be stopping by for an interview on his birthday - October 18th!

I MAY have had a real life ghost encounter. You be the judge. I posted this story when I first started blogging so those of you have been following me for a while may experience a case of deja vu.....
Cue spooky music......
When I was very young I used to play out in my yard along a rose bush hedge that separated our yard from my neighbors. I knew them a little – they would let me play under their Weeping Willow tree and sometimes invited me in for lemonade.
One day while I was playing on my side of the rose bushes an elderly woman in a long white dress came up to me and started talking. She asked me what game I was playing, talked about the roses and talked about the people who lived in the neighborhood. She said it was nice to meet me and left.
I didn’t think too much about it (this was in the early 70’s by the way…no weirdo kidnappings and neighbors were still friendly – my mom watched me through the kitchen window) I told my mother about the woman but she said she hadn’t seen anything and she probably thought I was making it up. I was an only child so I did tend to have a bit of an imagination!
A few weeks had passed when my neighbor’s invited me in for a drink after a day of playing under the Willow tree. While in their house I saw a picture on the mantle of the woman I had talked to and told them about our conversation. Well – they completely freaked out! They kept asking if I was sure it was her. I was positive because I didn’t know anyone else that old at the time other than my grandmother. It turned out the woman was their mother who had died the year before. The things the woman had told me were things that only she would know about their family. Not something a 12 year old would know on her own.
My neighbor’s brought me home and had a heated discussion with my mother. I have no idea what they said……but they never talked to me again. They still let me play in their yard but they never offered me a drink or came out to talk to me again.
I’m still not sure I actually saw a ghost and nothing like that ever happened to me again so you can interpret that story as you wish …but there it is!

I don't really have a fav. ghost movie or book, but my husband works in a haunted radio station. I know it sounds like a gimick, but the Ghost Hunters are really coming to investigate. Some weird stuff happens there. They see people reflected in the studio windows but no ones there, they smell cigarette smoke in their offices or going down the hallway, they see shadow figures in the basement, and my husbands Num Lock on his computer is always getting switched off in the early mornings while he's on the air. They've had 2 djs die over the last 10 or so years. So yeah, CREEPY!
ReplyDeleteTHanks for the giveaway!

My favorite ghost movie is The Changeling (the horror movie with George C. Scott from around 1980, not the new drama). That wheelchair totally freaks me out!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have had some encounters, but I don't really want to go into that right now.

I LOVE Hocus Pocus! I watch it again every year when Halloween rolls around =)

I adore Hocus Pocus. My besties and I watch it every October. It's the greatest movie. As for books my favorite book with ghosts is either The Morganville Series of the Shift series. Both are amazing series. I haven't had any ghost experiences besides thinking our dog sees ghosts because he randomly stares off into space and starts barking at nothing.

Favorite ghost book has to be The Restorer by Amanda Stevens. I also loved Unholy Ghost by Stacia Kane. I try to stay away from horror movies, so I can't claim that I love any, they tend to freak me out.
ReplyDeleteNeri0724(at)gmail(dot)com
You poor dear! Regardless of how freaked out they were, they should have been a little kinder to a small child!
ReplyDeleteI see from your Goodreads widget that the Showalter book was 2-starred...
Well, this sounds super fun! I'd love to enter the giveaway. I'm a follower of your blog, of course. :) My email is amberr610[at]gmail[dot]com

*BOO* Another ghostly follower, here ;D
I love ghost movies, books etc and used to live in a haunted house!!! For real, we were always having weird things happen and seeing things in mirrors, etc. So bizarre! I guess you can get used to anything lol
But my favorite ghost movie is Ghost with Patrick Swayze & Demi Moore, even though I bawl my eyes out everytime I watch it.
Only ghosty thing I can remember really is Lee Nichols 'Haunting Emma' series which is pretty good. Also the debates I've had with my boyfriend recently over the existence of ghosts and what they exactly are, that was pretty fun! But a little bit deep and delving into personal beliefs and such.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to read Stacia Kane's series. I recently nudged Karina from Nocturnal Book Reviews for her recommendations for a beginner urban fantasy reader and that series was one of them and it sounds fantastic. Still, you're mean and being all 'US only' so this is purely a comment :p Totally gonna get my revenge. Yup.
That just gave me goosebumps, it reminds me so much of a encounter my mom had when she was a child in the house she grew up with. I've heard the story several times and my mom is very descriptive about the lady who visited her in her room and had a conversations with her and then dissapeared out the window ( my mom's room was on the second floor) This lady was also wearing a long white dress. *goosebumps* I've never experienced anything like that, but last year as I was sitting in the computer chair on the computer I had my ponytail yanked pretty hard, enough for my head to snap back. I turned around to yell at one of my kids just to see that the room was empty and quiet, no giggling. I walked into the other room just to see all my kids quietly snuggled on the couch watching a movie. So who pulled my hair???????

The only ghosty things I can think of..I used to play a lot of Pac-Man and there were those ghost things! When my son was younger, every Halloween we would take Blow-Pops and napkins and make ghosts out of them. And my favorite ghost movie is Nicole Kidman's The Others (I think that's what it's called.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, I got nothing. ;)
I follow you and 5 Monkeys (+4)

I just read Ghost on Black Mountain by Ann Hite. It was fabulous -- part historical fiction, part spooky ghost story. I also *loved* The Restorer by Amanda Stevens. Both are definitely going on my favorites shelf.

I just finished the second book in the Hollow series by Jessica Verday. I've started the Shade series, too. And of course, there's ghosts on this season of The Vampire Diaries.

I'm such a chicken when it comes to scary things. lol. Though it scared me like crazy, The Others would have to be my fav ghostly movie. I'm also a big fan of Supernatural, so that works for TV! OH! I do enjoy (the often cheesy) Ghost Whisperer show & I love Ghost Hunters, too! I read Shade not too long ago, so I DEFINITELY agree with that one! As for ghostly encounters (yes, I'm determined to answer ALL the questions. lol)... um, you could say I have, yes. That is all. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower to both of ya! Thanks for the giveaway!

Yeah, not really a fan of ghosties either... but I did love A Certain Slant of Light! The prose was brilliant!

I actually haven't seen very many ghost movies, and I'm not sure if Hocus Pocus counts but I do love that movie so.
ReplyDeleteBook-wise, I would have to go with Ghosts, Ghouls and Other Nightmares a collection of short stories. It has long since been one of my favorite books to read around Halloween.

I've read a few, it definitely isn't my preferred genre, but some can be really good. Thank you for the awesome giveaway! GFC on both-Krystal Larson edysciecreamlover18@gmailDOTcom

ReplyDeleteI dont' really have a lot of favorite ghosty things. Ghosty YA almost never works for me, except Stacey's work. I liked Jessica Verday's debut The Hollow, but the series didn't end well for me. I like vampires, werewolves and zombies, but ghosts work about as well for me as faeries do for you.
My favorite ghost book would also be the Shade series. I'm not a huge ghost fan. Give me flesh any day.

Anyone remember Winston in Halfway to the Grave? He was a ghost who was not a nice person in life and uses Cat to get to experience some of his precious moonshine, but still he cracked me up!! If he was corporeal his ass would so be kicked by Bones by now, but instead he is still hanging out in the graveyard waiting for Cat and some moonshine to show up =)

My favorite ghostly book is OF COURSE Shade and I have actually had a ghostly encounter. The most recent one happened about a year ago. While out with the family at Heritage Days at Malabar Farm, I saw a see through soldier peeking out from behind a tree on the edge of the woods near the historical re-enactors. very creepy!

My favorite ghost movie is Ghost - Patrick Swayze was beyond yummy in that movie, but it's so sad because you know he is dead right from the start. In books, I'm not wild about ones that have ghosts as main characters, but I love ones where the main characters interact with ghosts, like Cassie Palmer in Karen Chance's series - her ghost lives in a necklace that she wears.
ReplyDeleteCan't say that I've ever seen a ghost, but I do believe in them anyway.
