Time to metaphorically hold my feet to the fire. I’ve been very good this year about reading books from my physical bookshelf and making my way through the BEA15 books, but I can tell I’m about to hit a snag.
***
I’ve been reading A Darker Shade of Magic for over a month now – I usually finish a book in one or two days. I like it, a lot, and I love V.E. Schwab, but for whatever reason it isn’t compelling yet. I NEED to finish this book! Had to DNF this one :-(
After the Red Rain by Barry Lyga and
Another Day by David Levithan are both BEA books, releasing in August. I have zero urge to read either at the moment, and I still need to read book #1,
Every Day before starting
Another Day. Which means I have to buy it lol First world blogger problems….. Read After the Red Rain and - meh ->
Review
Then I have a few, already released books that I would like to clear off the shelf:
The Hunt by Stacey Kade (book #2 in the Project Paper Dolls series) & then pick up
The Trials (book #3) so I can finally complete a series – which I haven’t done in ages!
The Daughter of Deep Silence by Carrie Ryan. This was one of my MUST haves at BEA but now – meh – no urge to read it. I hate when that happens! Convoluted mess filled with plot holes and a bad romance set up.
Also – a few review books:
A Lady’s Guide to Skirting Scandal by Kelly Bowen – I’m getting bored with contemporary romance, so I thought I would mix it up with a historical romance. Enjoyed this one!
A Wish Upon Jasmine by Laura Florand – Florand is one of my favorite authors so I know I’ll read/enjoy this one. The only reason I haven’t started it yet is because her books need to be savored & I haven’t had time to do an all day read. Soon my precious…soon… I loved it!

I seem to do better at these things if I post it on my blog, so hopefully that was the kick in the pants I needed and I will stop getting distracted by Netflix, and .99 book deals. At least I didn’t redesign my blog again! lol

ReplyDelete"At least I didn’t redesign my blog again!"
But that's the very reason why I keep coming! LOL.
Love the little sculpture, though I'm not sure if it's a monkey or what.
You moody reader - all those poor books you love and leave. I would like to console some of them ;).
He's a reading gargoyle. I also have gargoyle bookends :-)
DeleteI AM a moody reader! Sometimes I hate that about myself lol
Too bad about shade, I enjoyed that one
ReplyDeleteI like it - it's just that my concentration level is zip and you need to pay attention with this book lol
DeleteI have a darker shade and I haven't read it yet. what I didn't know about Laura's book :) Yes I agree with being a moody reader too.
ReplyDeleteooh you should read DSoM with me!
DeleteLaura's book came out this week. I can't wait to read that one! I just don't want any interruptions lol
Hope that you can get the motivation to finish and start. They wall look interesting
ReplyDeleteIt might be the heat - my concentration is shot lol
DeleteOh I hope you get to all of these and that A Darker Shade of Magic picks up.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the kindle deals. I just picked up the Outlander series for $1.99. I wasn't supposed to buy any... LOL
It's really good I swear! I just can't seem to stay with it though.
DeleteI just bought Darker Shade of Magic but thanks for the warning. This summer I've been struggling with books that aren't really fast paced, so I might wait and read it when the weather cools down. I think my brain is overheated :)
ReplyDeleteJen @ YA Romantics
It's really good Jen. I always struggle with books that have more world building and fantasy elements though.
DeleteADSOM is so magical. I hope you get around to finishing it this month!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about your thoughts on After the Red Rain. I loved I Hunt Killers but in reserved about this one for some reason
AtRR is a collaboration between Lyga, Peter Facinelli and RObert DeFranco so I'm not sure how that's going to play out. I've read mixed reviews so we'll see I guess.
DeleteBest of luck with all of you reading! Sometimes you just don't feel like certain books at certain times. It's hard to tell. I do want to read Daughter of Deep Silence; my friend has a copy, so I'll borrow it from her sometime soon. I'm curious about a Darker Shade of Magic too - hope it captures your interest more soon!
ReplyDelete-Lauren
I hate when I like something (like DSoM) but just can't manage to concentrate.
DeleteYour issue with Schwab happens a lot to me too. it's one of those "it's not you, it's me so Scarlet situation. I don't know how you're doing it but when that happens to me, I try to read a chapter or two every night until I get the hang of it and finish the entire thing.
ReplyDeleteI think I read so much romance where it's all about the feels - so when I switch to fantasy/magic and you need to concentrate on the world building and politics I have a harder time with it - even if I like it.
DeleteI think I'm going to go with your one chapter a day idea. And if I don't get drawn in more by the 1/2 way point I'll let it go.
I love Everyday so I am curious about Another Day.
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many great things about Everyday. I]m looking forward to reading them both.
DeleteI loved A Darker Shade of Magic - so I hope you can push through as it gets more action, intense emotions, and cool magic scenes with villains to love. I also need to finish Stacy Kade books 2 & 3 - loved book one. Hope you enjoy all your great reads, Karen :)
ReplyDeleteI must say I've been horrible reading the books on my shelf. I just keep collecting and read from kindle - just because it's easier to read at night! Daughter of Deep Silence sounds interesting a
ReplyDeleteI loved A Darker Shade of Magic. I think fantasy books tend to take a bit to get used to, world building and whatnot, but I really think you'll like it.
ReplyDeleteWe all know that I say that, but then you hate it, and then we don't speak for two weeks due to irreconcilable differences. :-P
Its so hard to keep up and to pass up binge reading series in favor of review books...That's my latest dilemma. Levithan's books are really worth it though. I loved Every Day.
