Review: I’ve read several books by Maisey Yates and I’ve always enjoyed her spin on common tropes. So I was excited to read this best friends to lovers romance.
Anna, a mechanic, needs a date to a fancy party but her brothers bet her that she can’t get one due to her tomboy, no-nonsense attitude. Her best friend, Chase, needs an invite to that party to make business contacts and offers to take her.
I have to say, I wasn’t thrilled with the setup of making Anna over into something more feminine – and that’s what kicks off Chase’s, a bit of a womanizer, attraction to her. I always wish that I guy can appreciate a woman without knowing about all those hidden curves or boobs or whatever…but never-the-less they are a fantastic couple with great chemistry once they cross that friends barrier.
Chase is a great hero. A tad on the predictable side but still a nice guy but for me this book was ALL about Anna. I LOVED her. LOVED!!! She eats real food, she wears porcupine pj’s, watches musicals and says exactly what’s on her mind. She’s somewhat innocent as far as sex goes but she’s not afraid to after what she wants and is straight forward when she wants more from Chase.
A few fun quotes from Anna:
“I want a burger,” Anna said, not looking at the menu at all.
“You could get something fancier.”
“I’ll get it with a cheese I can’t pronounce.”
***
"It’s a penis, Chase, not the Sistine Chapel."

This whole series is a lot of fun and very sweet with a lot of heart.

ReplyDeleteShe was so funny!
DeleteI read the book before this one in the series, and I remember liking Anna. I will have to try this one.
ReplyDeleteI had read and loved Brokedown Cowboy by Yates.
DeleteHah! Love Anna's quotes. She likes one girl I could totally get behind. Bummer Chase showed initial interest seeing Anna all "feminine" but whateverr...haha Sounds like a good one!
