We did finish our kitchen renovations – if you’ve been following that saga on twitter/Instagram and I might do a before and after post soon. I’m really happy with how it turned out. I’m waiting to see if it makes me cook more – or better. lol
Despite my previous post about my out of control TBR pile, I added more books. *shame* But look how pretty! I’m really excited about When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon, The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli, I Believe in a thing Called Love by Maurene Goo, and The Valiant by Lesley Livingston but they all look great.
Non-bookish related fun -
We watched A Series of Unfortunate Events in Netflix and it was so much fun. Dark, smart and very well acted. I haven’t read any of the Lemony Snicket books or seen the movie before so I was a little lost at first but I can see why everyone is so in love with it. My favorite thing is how they didn’t talk down to kids. If there was a difficult word or new concept (like dramatic irony) they weaved the explanation seamlessly into the story. It has already been picked for two more seasons so yay!
And I know I’m way behind the cool kids with this one but we just started Stranger Things, also on Netflix. I’m really enjoying it so far.
We saw Hidden Figures (fantastic!) and the final Resident Evil (not really my thing but Kevin enjoyed it) at the movies.
So what have you all been up to? Any good book/movie/tv rec’s? I hope to have a few reviews up next week. I’ll be reading My Not So perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella next and hopefully it’s the kind of escapist reading fun I’m looking for right now.
And my little fulffball, Fonzi, has to go in for minor surgery on Friday so please send good vibes out way if you can. Please & thank you!
Oh Resident Evil. I liked the first one, but then it became overkill. I heard the last one was at least fun, did you enjoy yourself or was it just Kevin?
ReplyDeleteHidden Figures was so great, I almost want to see it again! And it's so easy to lose yourself in Stranger Things. I think Matt and I devoured it in a week.
And you are forgiven for adding to your TBR pile, those books look great!
I liked the first Resident Evil too. I thought this last one was ok but it was really just people punching people over and over lol I didn't HATE it though.
DeleteBook enabler You are supposed to shun me lol Book people are zero help for these issues!
I have read good books, but not a single amazing one this Jan...
ReplyDeleteBut I did watch a movie today, the light between oceans, not amazing, but it did make me cry for 30 min

As someone so obsessed with recipe books and food, you have tricked me into believing you loved to cook for so long LOL.
You didn't say anything about Fonzi on Twitter, did you? Poor thing, I hope it was nothing bad and he's recovering nicely. Especially since Beau is still fresh news :(.
Oh, sorry, I read it wrong ("had" instead of "has"). I thought you were talking about last Friday. Good luck Fonz *blows kisses*!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see the before and after pics of your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteWhen things get craZy, more books is the answer!
I started watching Taboo because Tom Hardy and The Young Pope. I still have to warm up to TYP but it's super
Machiavellian so far and that part I love.
I've been DVR'ing Taboo but haven't started it yet.
DeleteI'll have to get my kitchen pics organized and do a post.
I have been having trouble concentrating so reading has been hard lately and I've not had that problem before. I've been filling up on NetFlix so I've seen Stranger Things. Can you believe the last episode when... just kidding! :) Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I want to see Hidden Figures so much!
ReplyDelete((HUGS)) pets, treats, good vibes and kisses for Fonzi. I hope everything goes well and it makes momma guilty enough to give you your favorite foods. :)
Fonzi is aboutas spoiled as it gets lol
DeleteI hope to finish Stranger Things this weekend.
Aw, poor Fonzi. Lots of positive thoughts your way. I still need to watch Series of Unfortunate Events. I never read the books either, but I did see the original movie. I hear this series is way better - then again, it allows for more time and that's good. :)
ReplyDeleteAw, I'm so jealous you have Becky Albertalli's next one!
-Lauren
It was such a fun, addictive series!
DeleteYeah - I'm VERY excited about Albertalli's!
My kids finished Series of Unfortunate events. I was at the car shop picking up the car. I have been reading but not as much. Also I have been doing school work at lot more and dealing with issues with my kids . This month is our anniversary and congrats with your new kitchen .
ReplyDeleteWasn't it a lot of fun?! I think you watched it while we were lol
DeleteYou are always such a busy girl! And Happy Anniversary! Ours in in March - 30 YEARS! eep lol
Yay, glad your kitchen is done. It must be wonderful. I haven't gotten enough reading in lately. I have been so busy I feel like I am a day late and a dollar short!
ReplyDeleteAren't we all....lol
DeleteI enjoyed A Series of Unfortunate Events as well :D
ReplyDeleteYay! It was so good. Better than I was expecting.
DeleteSorry to hear you’ve been struggling to find a great book lately, Karen. It’s especially disheartening when these books are from your favorite authors. I hope you’ll find a winner soon. Congratulations you’re your kitchen renovations! It can be such a pain, I’m glad to hear you like the result. No critique for adding more books on your tbr-list from me. Lol. Sending all good vibes for Fonzi.
ReplyDeleteYeah - it was 3 authors in a row :-((( I'll bounce back I'm sure.
DeleteI know many haven't been able to blog or read because of what is happening the world right now. However reading for me is my escape from all the bad that is going on. I think I would go crazy if I couldn't. Hope you get some good cooking done with your new renovations.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just the news. My urge to read is kind of meh and then add in meh books and it's all so meh lol
DeleteThen I just didn't have time with the renovations.
I want to watch Stranger Things. Actually, I started watching with one of my kids. We watched two episodes and then it was bedtime (for me at least). But the next morning, I got: "Yeah, I finished it without you. It was good." Argh!
ReplyDeleteJen @ YA Romantics
It was so good Jen!!!
DeletePoor Fonzi Karen, such a sweet boy. I hope it all goes well with the surgery and you'll both be in my thoughts. How are you holding up sweetheart? <3
ReplyDeleteWe're both doing good. The surgery went fine. He's got the cone of shame and isn't happy but he'll survive it lol
DeleteCongrats on getting your kitchen finished!! And yay for Stranger Things...if you haven't seen it yet...after you finish the season google the Stranger Things Cast acceptance speech at this years SAG awards.
ReplyDeleteI saw the speech before I watched the show and it was ROFL funny. Well Winona - not the speech.
DeleteI just started watching A Series of Unfortunate Events as well :) Really enjoying it - it's very loyal to the books. If you have time I would recommend listening to the series on audio - narrated by Tim Curry!!
ReplyDeleteTim Curry! I bet it's fantastic. He's the prefect narrator for that. I hope you continue to enjoy the Netflix version!
DeleteOh no on the herd pup. Glad he came through and is doing well! Always makes a girl a nervous wreck, I know.
ReplyDeleteAwww, best wishes to Fonzi! Congrats on finishing up the kitchen. We're in the middle of painting our cabinets. Ugh, what a project.
