I saw this tag at Metaphors and Moonlight and thought it would be fun to join in. The tag was originally created by Ayunda @ Tea and Paperbacks. (I also might not have a review ready for this week…. lol)
I won’t tag anyone = no pressure – but feel free to join in and post on your blog.
Reading on the couch or in bed?
Both. During the day it’s on the couch, usually with Figment (my cat) by my side. My husband used to work nights so I read in bed a lot, reading until 2-3 in the morning, but now that he’s back on days, I only do that occasionally.
Male main character or female main character?
Either is ok with me but I do lean more towards male, especially in YA because it’s not something I see very often. I’ve been reading a lot of M/M romance recently – so that accounts for probably 70% of my reading right now. But that will likely change as my reading tastes change again.
Sweet snacks or salty snacks while reading?
Umm, probably salty. I’ll eat mostly fruit and nuts. If I’m reading at night and feeling indulgent it would be chocolate. My favorite reading treat is the chocolate brownie from my local bookstore.
Trilogy or quartets?
I’m taking a break from series. So stand alones. I also love duologies. I like the story to be told in however many books it needs – but without filler - and too many series were becoming trilogies just because that’s thing you do.
First person POV or third person POV?
It’s so weird but I don’t really think about POV. It either works or it doesn’t. Which…duh lol but I’ve loved and hated both so I guess it depends on the author/story. I do NOT like when BOTH are present int he same book though. It gives me reading whiplash.
Reading at night or in the morning?
Afternoon or night. I do errands/work and clean in the morning. When everything settles down then I read. My brain is too scattered with the things I need to get done that day to read early.
Libraries or bookstores?
Bookstores. I know! I know! I should go tot he library. I do to donate books - they love me there lol but I never borrow. I do want to check out my local libraries online book borrowing though.
Books that make you laugh or books that make you cry?
LAUGH!!
Those are my favorite books of all. I used to love really emotional books that left me in tears but I just can’t take them these days. They leave me wrecked for weeks and it carries over into real life. I hate the feeling.
Everyone wants to know what’s wrong with me and I’m like…this fake couple broke up…or my imaginary BFF died tragically and I can’t stop thinking about it. lol
Black book covers or white book covers?
Black, white AND red!
My friend Jen just did a Trending Thursday post about it and has some great examples. I think the starkness of the black and white with the pop of red is eye catching and always grabs my attention.
It also adds a note of danger and I'm drawn to that.
Character driven or plot driven stories?
I need both but if I connect to the characters I can hang in longer than an interesting plot but no one I care about.
OMG I love these kinds of things! I'm going to do this on my own blog now hehe. :) I frequent my local libraries and now have 3 local council library cards (see: I have a book reading problem). Still doesn't stop me from buying new books....... :S I'm exactly the same - I need to feel a connection to the characters so I would take that over a plot-driven story.
ReplyDeleteCass @ Words on Paper
I love them too! I have a few others that people tagged me in but haven't gotten to yet.
DeleteWhat an awesome book tag. I want to do this one day. Yeah, books that make me laugh are way more enjoyable than books that make me cry but sometimes I'm a sucker for tearjerkers even though I hate them. Haha. ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope you do! It was a lot of fun and I love hearing about everyone's reading quirks.
DeleteI like to actually read late afternoon. This is a fun post and I read on the couch :)
ReplyDeleteThat's mostly when I read too.
DeleteFun tag. Maybe I'll do it someday soon. I'm trying to get in the habit of getting more books from the library. I like buying books but my library really is great at getting lots of new releases so I'm starting to use them more for that.
ReplyDeleteMy library rarely has the newer stuff - in fact they get a lot of them from me lol
DeleteSo I'm doing this tag!I would love to snack while reading but A) I suck at multitasking and B) I am messy. There would be so many crumbs in those books.
ReplyDeleteNever said there wasn't a mess :-p lol
DeleteI'm like you, I enjoy the funny books. I don't like being said so the emotional ones just leave me in a funk for a while afterwards. I read because it makes me happy, so I try to avoid sad books. I switch back and forth with my snacks. Sometimes I want some chocolate or something else sweet but other times I want salty chips...sometimes both so I end up with chocolate covered pretzels! lol This was such a fun tag!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same. I read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and was miserable for WEEKS. I hate feeling that way - I read to escape.
DeleteDefinitely love books that make me laugh too. I totally need to do this book tag. :) ~Aleen
ReplyDeleteI hope you do! It was fun.
DeleteI'm with you, I don't often think of POV in the person it is told. I think it will work or not as well.
ReplyDeleteI also love books that make me laugh so much more than cry!
It wasn't even anything I noticed until I saw other bloggers mention it in reviews.
DeleteMmm snacks! But I am a messy eater
ReplyDeleteOh me too! But that's what dogs are for - clean up lol
DeleteI'm either on the couch or in my chair when I read. It used to be sweet snacks or chips when I read not it's usually nuts or vegetable sticks. My diabetes is out of control so I'm trying to stay away from the candy...trying. lol
ReplyDeleteI don't eat a lot of candy but I can actually eat too many nuts lol
DeleteThis is such a fun post!! :D I read on the couch and I do go to the library, though mainly I just use their ebook/audiobook one online lol
ReplyDeleteThat's what I need to do! I'm a snob but I hate used books when people I don't know touched them lol
DeleteI read anytime I have a free moment. Unfortunately I do not read either in bed or on the couch as that is a recipe for sleep, lol. I have a special chair for that. No snacks for me while reading, too distracting. Bookstores for me and I am a sucker for books that make me laugh.
ReplyDeleteSometimes sleep happens to me too lol
DeleteFun tag. For the most part, I'm not that decided about my reading habits or book elements since I'd probably say both to most of these. I had to laugh about how you adjusted your reading habits to your husband's schedule. I have to do that. He frowns on the light being on when he's trying to sleep. LOL
ReplyDeleteIf a book is on my Kindle - I'll read a few chapters in bed. The paperwhite doesn't bother him. It's more physical books where I need more light to read.
DeleteSweet snacks for me when I'm reading. I must have destroyed two cups of chocolate granola yesterday lol. Stopping by from blog social event.
ReplyDeleteHa! I don't eat too much while reading but I like to have a few snacks or I'll completely forget to feed myself lol
DeleteI have not done a blog tag in so long! Time for me to this. Thank you. :) Lucky tho you can read books until 2-3 in the morning.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't happen often because I'll need to sleep most of the next day and that's not an option lol
DeleteI don't read in my bed too much because it's not as comfortable for me. I'll read almost anywhere though. haha
ReplyDeleteI love character driven books!
-Lauren
Weirdly - I can't read in a chair or when other people (other than my husband) are around.
DeleteI have many of the same reading habits as you. Day- couch, night- bed. Fun to read your answers. #getsocial17
ReplyDelete~Jess
I'm a couch AND bed reader like you, Karen! If it's comfy, I'll read there. LOL. You should totally check out your library's digital collection - I get tons of ebooks and audiobooks from the library, although I'll warn you now that sometimes the holds lists can be long!
ReplyDeleteI looked once and I had to fill out something and...lazy lol But I will!
DeleteI read both in bed and on the couch but I prefer the couch. Mainly because my arm get so tired holding a book up when I'm laying down in bed. LoL
ReplyDeleteMy neck hurts if I read in bed too much.
DeleteI'm kinda liking duologies these days, it's nice to be done in two books. And I can go for either POV male or female although I have been reading a lot of female POV's lately especially in YA. I can take first or third person, no real preference, and I'm definitely a bookstore person!
ReplyDeleteDuologies are great!
DeleteAw, thanks for the shout-out! I'm on the couch right now. Usually the dog is there too hogging up all the room. And you should definitely get a library card to access the e-books - it's a great way to try a book and then no need to return it or find space for it if it wasn't for you! And quartets! Is that a thing? Hope not.
ReplyDeleteJen @ YA Romantics
I haven't heard of many quartets. I hope it doesn't become a thing!
DeleteI totally agree about POV, and it also throws me off when it's 1st for one POV character but 3rd for another. Each time it switches, I have to get used to it all over again -_- And GAH! Black, white, and red is my FAVORITE color combo!
ReplyDeleteI'm same on POV. I usually don't notice what it is unless it's poorly done. I have a reader friend who asks me every time a book interests her what POV it was in and I'm like...erm...let me go check again. lol
ReplyDeleteOhh love this tag. Might have to steal it one of these days! Lol.
ReplyDeleteI looove white covers. :D
