Stake Sauce Arc 1: The Secret Ingredient Is Love. No, Really (Stake Sauce #1) by RoAnna Sylver
Source: Purchased
“A cute punk-rock vampire and a disabled firefighter-turned-mall-cop with a dark past join forces to battle the forces of evil.” ~ Goodreads
My thoughts: I was looking for something fun and quirky and Stake Sauce totally fit the bill.
The first half has a bit of slower pace but is still very good, as it explores Jude’s grief at losing his leg, job, a good friend, and his deteriorating relationships and his need for revenge.
Then pops in pink haired Pixie, a vampire that changes Jude’s world forever and the action really picks up and turns into a bit of a gruesome blood bath and battle for survival.
The change in tones might be a little jarring but I liked it. It's an odd, dark yet optimistic little story.
Aside from being a great vampire yarn - there's also disability, consent, trans, ace/aro/grey, poly rep - even though it's not the main focus.
*Maybe not for the squeamish. There's quite a bit of violence and some torture
It Takes Two to Tumble (Seducing the Sedwicks #1) by Cat Sebastian
Source: Purchased
“Phillip can’t wait to leave England’s shores and be back on his ship, away from the grief that haunts him. But his children have driven off a succession of governesses and tutors and he must set things right. The unexpected presence of the cheerful, adorable vicar sets his world on its head and now he can’t seem to live without Ben’s winning smiles or devastating kisses.
In the midst of runaway children, a plot to blackmail Ben’s family, and torturous nights of pleasure, Ben and Phillip must decide if a safe life is worth losing the one thing that makes them come alive.” ~ Goodreads
My thoughts: So flipping heartwarming and sweet. I adored this story – really lovely writing and story. Low angst – opposites attract, cute kids, great friends. It just had it all.
How’s that for a mini review! lol

ReplyDeleteThat second one is SUPER short! lol But I loved it.
DeleteStake Sauce sounds fun.
ReplyDeleteOdd but fun!
DeleteStake Sauce sounds weirdly adorable -- in a "bloody cute" kind of way. ;) I gotta say, your mini review for It Takes Two to Tumble convinced me. Short and sweet! I really want to give Cat Sebastian's historicals a try soon.
ReplyDeleteStake Sauce was odd but yeah - bloody cute is a good way of putting it lol
DeleteDo try Sebastian! That book was so sweet and swoony.
I might have to try one of those Cat Sebastian books!
ReplyDeleteBased on how lovely this one was - I want to read more by her!
DeleteStake Sauce looks fun! A pink haired punker vamp and a disabled mall cop- I'm liking this! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a really weird one but I liked it.
DeleteThe first one doesn't sound like your usual read Karen with vampires and pixies, I love that you're branching out and picking up new reads. I love the diversity in that one, that is worth picking up a copy just to celebrate alone! Great minis Karen, really enjoy them <3
ReplyDeleteBefore I started blogging, that's all I read lol I guess I'm just going back to my roots. Definitely trying to mix it up more too.
DeleteThey both sound great. To the wish list they go :)
ReplyDeleteI should say - resist - you have too many books but...nah lol
DeleteI definitely loved the diversity in Stake Sauce! But it was definitely heavier than I thought it would be, and the slow pace just didn't really work for me :-/ Great mini review though!
ReplyDeleteIt is a really heavy story and I can see it not being for everyone. It's so....odd lol
DeleteAwww, these both sound really good! I love a sweet and short book. I haven't read one in a while and always feel so accomplished when I do :) Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteThat second book was just so adorable and swoony.
DeleteAwesome mini reviews, Karen. Oh I need to do mini reviews. All my reviews are lengthy. I’m chatty!!! Haha.. thanks for sharing, my friend. Glad that you enjoyed those two. 😁❤️👍🏻
ReplyDeleteI have a chatty one coming next week lol
