tell me something tuesday: Beating the winter blues
Tell Me Something Tuesday is hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings and discusses a wide range of topics from books to blogging.
Question: How do you beat the winter blues?
This is going to be the most boring answer.
I don’t get the winter blues.
I live in Florida, so this is the time of year that I LOVE! I get outside more. I walk, bike, hike, eat outside, read outside – the farmers markets are bursting so I eat better.
I’m a happy camper in the winter.
I do read a bit less in the winter though. Because I’m more active, I average between 5-10 books per month during the winter rather than the high teens to 20 books that I read in the summer when you can’t drag me outside in that heat. lol
How about you? Do you suffer from the winter blues? I do remember when I lived up north, that I was practically crawling out of my skin and miserable by the time March rolled around.
I love the Valentines theme Karen, super cute! It's summer here in Australia at the moment and we're having some fierce temperatures. I'm not a heat person and prefer winter. I love to be able to snuggle on the couch and read during the cold, rainy months. I'm not one for outdoorsy type activity apart from gardening and read a lot more too.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteWe like to walk a lot - especially with the dogs and summer is a no go for them. We just bought bikes and I'm trying to make sure I actually use them lol My last ones rusted.
Ah, well, no, I do not get winter blues either. But I do hate the cold weather lol, so I'd rather stay inside more!
ReplyDeleteThis winter is killing me lol but I do love when it's in the 70's and lower humidity.
DeleteHas the cold been making it's way down to you?
I like parts of Winter, so I don't really get the blues too much. Since I live where it's usually really cold, I feel like I DO get a lot of reading in. It does become a bother when you just want to go outside and it's too cold/rainy.

I hibernate in the summer lol
DeleteSame here--no winter blues! (Well, our country is almost perpetually in Summer, so, there's that.) So cool that you bike and hike! I can do neither. XD Thanks for sharing, Karen! <3
ReplyDelete- Aimee @ Aimee, Always
I'm making myself sound way more adventurous and active than I am lol We just like to walk the dogs more in the winter. I'm not climbing any mountains or anything. hehe
DeleteWe just got the bikes for Christmas and I'm determined to not let them rust like our last bikes.
NEW BLOG LAYOUT!! I ADORE IT <3
ReplyDeleteI don't get the winter blues but I really get antsy and reminiscent of when I used to be able to walk everywhere without worry of frost bite. My poor husband has some intense seasonal depression and staying active has helped him a wee bit.
Also. When I was at Disney World last December it was 40 degrees and I was VERY upset. I ran away to Florida to escape the cold!
Thank you!
DeleteI used to have a problem with that when I lived up north.
We can get cold here. Our lowest was 11!!
I'm like you, and while it can get cool here in NC, I prefer the winter weather. When we had snow I was doing the happy dance. I've visited Florida a bunch, and love it for a little while, but then I need the cold again. (lol) I seem to have lots more energy too. So I can't say I have the winter blues either. Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind mild winters. I just can't handle cold COLD anymore.
DeleteI don't love Fl summers either though. lol
You are so lucky! The winter blues are a real thing. Sometime about mid February, sometimes sooner, the dirty snow and the constant cold gets depressing as hell. I try to keep busy cooking, reading, exercising. Anything to distract myself from the fact that I live in a part of the country where I don't want to go outside for 4 months out of the year :(
ReplyDeleteIt is! I used to get it when I lived up north.
DeleteDo you get the summer 'blues' then when it's too hot to leave the house? Lol. It's nice that you don't have to suffer through this cold, crappy weather. I say that, but I don't think I'd want to move somewhere that didn't have 4 seasons. I'm used to it, for the most part. :)
ReplyDeleteI do!!! That's why I love winter so much. I can finally go outside for extended periods of time.
DeleteI loved winter until I lived in upstate NY, near Buffalo. It broke me lol
Awww Florida, I could do with some heat
ReplyDeleteThrows you a ball of sunshine!
DeleteLucky you, Karen! I wish I lived in a place where it was warmer and more sunny in the winter. In Geneva, we get mostly gray and humid, and it's hard when we don't see the sun for several weeks...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of the winter with mild temperatures and farmer's markets.
Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews
That would be depressing. We have a rainy season and that can get annoying if it goes on for too long. ANd of course we have very hot/humid summers in FL.
DeleteLove the header! I don't know if I get the winter blues but I get a bit stir crazy if it is too cold/snowy. Mostly because the kids get stir crazy. Honestly I just plug along. I am glad the winter is good for you@@@
ReplyDeleteThank you :-)
DeleteI can't handle extended periods of rain. I love a good thunder shower but if it goes on for days I'm miserable and depressed. I get stir crazy too.
I'm in TX and I'm the same as you haha
ReplyDeleteYeah - we're in opposite land. It's our summers that have us hiding.
DeleteI get the blues around Christmastime, but it doesn't last very long. I actually suffer from the summer blues. Why, I have no clue, but that's when I tend to feel blue. And that rhymed without me meaning to lol
ReplyDeleteI don't really like Christmas. I wouldn't say I get the blues exactly but I try to just lay low and hope it ends soon.
DeleteI do get the summer blues though. It's so hot and I don't want to do anything. It seems to drag on forever here.
You're a poet and didn't even know it! Ha!
Nope! Totally a summer blues person who gets nearly as bad at hibernating as a bear in winter when it comes to heat and dealing with people.
ReplyDeleteNow, winter? I'm all for that season. :)
Same for me Sophia.
DeleteYes... farmers market is one place where you can explore a lot. It refreshes your mind.
ReplyDeleteYes! I love it and in FL this is the time of year fro greens, strawberries, blueberries. I love it!
DeleteEven though I live in a place that does have a winter, it honestly doesn't bother me that much. I still go out quite bit.
ReplyDeleteI used to love winter but I get wimpier every year that I live in FL haha
DeleteI live in Southern California, so I'm pretty much like you, Karen. I enjoy the cooler weather instead of the frying temperatures we usually have in Summer and even Spring! :)
ReplyDeleteSame! It's not to get out and not be dripping in sweat lol
DeleteUnfortunately we don't have Winter here, but I bet I'll be as hyper as you too ;)
ReplyDeleteVanessa @ Blushing Geek
Is it hot year round? We don't have *real* seasons in FL - just slightly cooler and less humid in the winter. Although this year we've been unusually cold.
DeleteIt's funny--my brother and his gf were just up here for a visit from FL and they were saying how incredibly cold it is here... and this feels WARM to what we've had! Ha!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love that you have warmer winters and don't suffer from the blues this time of year. They are the worst BUT sometimes I like staying in like a little hibernation mouse, too :)
That's me but in reverse. I hibernate in the summer lol
DeleteI don't get the winter blues because it's my favorite time of year. I get the summer blues with all that clear sky and crazy hot temps. lol
ReplyDeleteSame.
DeleteNope. I wish for more snow often. I know how important the snow pack is here. Also I love a good snow day where things are just quiet and fresh and you get a few birds to break the silence.
ReplyDeleteI like a modest amount of snow..like 204 inches is good lol but the cold kills me after being a Floridian for so long.
DeleteI don't really get the winter blues either. I might get a bit restless or whine about the cold if it's particularly bitter one week but overall I'm good. I love the crisp air.
ReplyDeleteEspecially this year! Us poor warm hearted creatures can't handle a real winter lol
DeleteI loooovve your header! Did Kevin do that? Kidding!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat--Texas doesn't really Winter. There are no Winter Blues to be had. We've had 60-65 degree weather all week, and we have spent the majority of our days outside. Playgrounds, backyard, etc. During the summer I will think of ANY EXCUSE to stay home and never leave my house. I don't sweat well, so my body swells up like a balloon. I get puffy and itchy, so NO. Swimming (in the morning) is likely the only time I'll go outside (unless my kids make me, which is really not fair).
W has been asking for a snowman all year. When it snowed for like an hour he was so excited, but then it was gone in the morning. I told him we would have to go somewhere else to build a snowman.
Do You Dog-ear?
Thank you :-)) Making a header is one of the few things I can do that he can't hehe
DeleteI'm the same. The summer makes me want to hide and read. I try to only do things before 10 am lol
I will!
ReplyDeleteThe same here. The summer can be awful. Do you get snow where you are in Oregon? We used to live in Washington state and there's all kind of weather dependign where you live.
