my monday musings January wrap-up

January was a pretty good reading month, #’s-wise, which surprised me. It’s usually my lowest reading number at about 3-5 books, because I tend to spend more time outside in the winter, but this January I read 13 books total.

It was so freaking cold this year that I just huddled inside and read lol

I’m going for eclectic and certainly hit that mark last month with graphic novels, contemporary romance, vampires, post-Roman erotica, royal romance, geek romance, post apocalyptic cyber punk.

Certain Dark Things was from my TBR. Yay! Still not reading enough from there but one down!

Click on cover for my review or to view the title on Goodreads if a review hasn’t posted yet.

*Certain Dark things, The Wedding Date reviews are scheduled for this month – Heart On review on Goodreads

The rest were duds. Here’s my January Goodreads shelf

Netgalley

I’ve been annoyed with Netgalley because I have ALWAYS reviewed any book I’ve ever requested from there but several years ago there was a publisher that just loaded books to your new titles automatically. If I didn’t elect to read or review them, it brought my feedback ratio down. Anna from herding Cats & Burning Soup helped me figure out how to fix that so I got that cleared up and now have a Feedback Ration of 102 %. O_O I mean…I’m happy about that but…how is that possible? I even have two books I need to post reviews for. Oh well, I’ll take it!

ARC’s

I only accepted two for the month – The Wedding Date and Heart On. They've been read and reviewed so I’m free and clear of arc’s! Wheeeeee

Physical TBR pile

Well, I guess you can’t conquer everything right? lol I only read one book from that pile so still 80-something to go.

How did your January reading go? What are you planning to read in February? I’m playing it cool and let my mood dictate what I read since I don’t have anything for review.

  1. Wtf? Haha how did you manage to get a ratio of 102%??? And I thought my 94% was good :-P

    1. I DON'T KNOW. It's illogical lol

I had been at 92% which is great but it bugged me because I never requested the books that were being held against me for not reviewing. I just wanted my earned 100% lol

LOL, I don't know how NG works, but this surpasses the laws of physics. Maybe your account is bigger on the inside? 😂

    1. Ha! I love that!!! Or it's giving me early credit for books I review int he future??? lol

  3. My Netgalley ratio is horrible. I forget to review books after I read them. Whoops! You had an awesome reading month!! It's so cold here - I just want to curl up with my book right now.

    1. I'm actually better at reviewing on there than on my blog lol But I don't really request too many. I only allow myself two at a time and I have to read/review before I can request more.

  4. Wow 102% - not bad!! I think I want to get to the Wedding Date at some point. Hope you have a great February!

  5. 102% huh? That's awesome! I don't have a TON of review books, so I'm happy about that. I hope to get some physical books that I own read - I've been doing pretty well with reading some e-books I own!

    1. Yay! That's my goal as well. And I'm doing....okay. Not as well as I would like but not bad.

  6. 102% lol, you will now get all the books! I've stopped going there. That place is nothing but trouble for my reading life and I strangely request books that I end up not wanting to read.

    1. You would think but NO. Right after that I got rejected for two books lol

I'm really good about Netgalley. I don't even really look around there much. It's the book cons that do me in. Not so much now because I learned my lesson but int he early days I was grabby lol

  7. I can not even get NG books anymore cos they are all like US only :/ There goes my 101% feedback

    1. That is so awful. I hate that this is happening to all the international bloggers.

  8. LOL wth at 102% I've never heard of a publisher being able to do that. That's nuts.

    1. This was years ago. Like 2011? maybe. It was Little Brown. They would just put 5-6 titles up for you every month instead of requesting. Which is nice in a way but not if you aren't going to read them. So they just sit there. I had never downloaded them or anything but I didn't give feedback because I hadn't read them.

  9. I remember back in the day when pubs would just invite people willy nilly to view books. Does it really count toward our stats? I haven't been paying attention I'm at 77% and it is KILLING ME. Enjoy that 102% though! Haha.

I think I have Certain Dark Things. Do you have a review?

    1. If you don't give any feedback then yes. At least they were there in my case. I had to go through and just leave a quick note that I had never requested the title and chose not to read or review it.

  10. I only read a couple in January but so far so good.

  11. Oh you had a wonderful month of reading here!! I read a good amount of books, more than I normally do. So much that I am BEHIND on reviews, eek...hope I can catch up soon hehe

That is weird about your NG percentage though. But you can't complain about a 102% though. :)

    1. That was a lot for me. I usually only read 4-5 in January.

I'm all caught up on reviews and honestly I'm not sure what to do with myself now lol

  12. It looks like you had a good month! Great job! :D I always love when I have the time and inclination to read! :D

    1. It didn't feel like I read that many books O_o I wish I was reading more WOW books but I'm trying to branch out of my comfort zone a bit so they aren't all going to work.

  13. I love that you got 102% :) Overachiever! That's weird though that you're pinged for not reviewing books that were automatically added to your queue. Side note: I don't know a thing about NetGalley or how it works, but have heard so many bloggers talk about it, I'll have to check it out.

    1. You have to give Feedback for each title you're approved for and back int he day the pubs used to add titles even if you didn't request them. You got pre-approved. I never downloaded any of them but they sat there without feedback so it counted against my review/approved ratio.

Now I guess I can slack off some and come back down to 100% lol

  14. Normally I don't read much in January either but the terrible weather has kept me lurking inside, reading my heart out. 🤣 YES! Certain Dark Things is such an amazing book! Love Moreno-Garcia's writing style, she's so accomplished and smart. *gushes forever*

  15. I think I read five in January. I haven't had a lot of reading time lately, but I try to when I get the chance. It's really my only time to relax.

    1. That's my usual January reading count. Some months are easier than others.

  16. Thirteen books in January! Go you! And I love how eclectic your reading was. That’s awesome.

Wow, I’ve never heard of that happening on NetGalley... books being added without being requested, Glad you were able to fix that. My rating tends to hover around the 90% mark which I’m happy with. :)

I have only one ARC for February and I’m happy with that. I have consciously taken a giant step away from ARCs and am concentrating on my own books.

    1. The Netgalley thing was YEARS ago. Like maybe - 2011??

I'm doing the same with arc's. I don't have any for Feb and took on two from favorite authors for March but that's it.

  17. I read some books but not that much due to school. How was the wedding date ?
