my monday musings
Soooo….week 2 of not having any posts drafted and not really reading anything.
I tweeted this this morning and it pretty much explains my current frame of mind.
“I realized this morning that I never changed the time on my appliances/ manual clocks Saturday night, so I lived in two time zones all day. That explains why the day was going either fast or slow depending what room I was in lol”
I wish everything could be blamed on daylight savings time but I seem to be in some weird funk regarding reading and blogging.
I sat down to write a few posts but instead made an Easter header – because that’s what I needed to be doing with my weekend. Also, I seemed to decide to overlook St. Patrick’s Day lol
Here’s a quick recap of what I’ve been reading/watching:
Watching
The Frankenstein Chronicles on Netflix - Inspector John Marlott investigates a series of crimes in 19th Century London, which may have been committed by a scientist intent on re-animating the dead.
We watched the first 2 seasons and it was pretty good. It’s bleak, cruel and violent but also more of a mystery than horror series. Since I’m not a big fan of detective type stories, I was a little let down that the “Frankenstein” aspect wasn’t as prominant as the case solving was.
I do recommend you give it a try though – you’ll know fairly quickly if it’s for you or not.
Happy on SYFY – “An injured hitman befriends his kidnapped daughter's imaginary friend - a perky blue flying unicorn.” based on the graphic novel by Grant Morrison.
This is DARK and I don’t even know who I would recommend it to. I mean REALLY dark. It has a lot of humor but also violence, gore, drug use and children in danger – which is going to be difficult for some viewers to stomach. I did mostly enjoy it but you have really got to be able to tolerate your characters flawed and be able to handle dark subject matter to watch this.
Reading:
I’m still reading A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole. It’s cute but I’m not *can’t put this book down"* in love with it yet. I’m not a fan of the hero who is lying atm but I’m hoping I’m won over soon.
Walden on Wheels by Ken Ilgunas I tried with this one. I love the idea of this book. Reject consumerism and debt – live freely on the open road. See America and meet different people along the way.
It starts when Ken is young and just out of college so I tried to cut him some slack on his immaturity and judgy ways but at a certain point he’s just an asshole. He accepts help from everyone (including loans and free housing from his mom –works jobs where he gets to live rent free) then complains how he’s IN DEBT – a million times, while having no bills other than his college loan (starting at about $32,000), scorning anyone who dares to be a”wage slave” for steady pay and benefits.
He waxes poetic about the people he meets in Alaska who are meth addicts, convicts (some accused of murder or abuse) because they’re free man….yet during a stint volunteering for clean up in the aftermath of Katrina – deems these people drug addled, sex crazed losers and contemplates going back to college so he can help good people. Not to mention his obsession with needing to point out everyone who is overweight and ewww…touching him. I tapped out.
If you want to read about wandering and getting back in touch with nature I suggest Bill Bryson. Although, it’s been years since I last read his books.
And lastly, tomorrow is my 31st (EEP) wedding anniversary!
And I remembered!! Seriously, it’s a big deal that I did (of course I might not tomorrow lol) but there have been many years that we’ve forgotten only to get a phone call from his mom wishing us a happy anniversary while we look at each other and go OH SHIT – OOPS. lol
But at least we both forgot so no hurt feelings or talk of divorce 🤣
What's up with you guys this week? Reading or watching anything good? Drowning in a sea of pollen like I am?
You time mind bending experience is funny! :)
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you are in a blogging/reading slump :( Hopefully you'll get back to it in no time :)
:-)I was so lost this morning. In my bedroom (the correct time) - I thought I got up late but when I went in the kitchen I thought I had plenty of time Haha
DeleteIt doesn't even feel like a slump - I just have nothing to say lol
haha ok sorry for the assumption! Often when I have nothing to say is because I'm in a slump ;-)
DeleteOh that's fine! I've been in those before too lol This is more of a life slump ha!
DeleteI love the cover for A Princess in Theory and wanted to love it... but I couldn't stand all of his lying.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm maybe 30% in and yeah...having a hard time with that. At first...ok but at this point it's cruel. Especially after all she's dealt with.
DeleteI love your header! It's so cute! And, happy anniversary tomorrow. My anniversary is on Wednesday. It's my 20th! Eep is right, lol.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jennie.
DeleteCongratulations!!! Time flies lol
I tried watching Happy but I just couldn't get into it.
ReplyDeleteIt's....weird.
DeleteQuote: "I seem to be in some weird funk regarding reading and blogging."
ReplyDeleteWe're never on the same page, are we? LOL. But that header was totally worth your time!
And happy anniversary! 31 is such a big number 😱.
I finished it and realized that it't not even St. Patrick's Day yet. Oh well....
DeleteLove the Easter header. Very cute. Happy Anniversary. My husband and I have forgotten ours before too. Oh well!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI'm surprised by how many people forget! Makes me feel better though :-)
I did not know Frankenstein had another season, buuut, eh, maybe not
ReplyDeleteI hear there might even be a 3rd. If you didn't love S1 - I'd say skip it. it's pretty much more of the same but if you liked it - give it a go.
DeleteHappy Anniversary - and hey, at least you BOTH forget. lol I love the Easter Header. I have so many books that I need to review and I just...I'm so behind. haha I'm doing well with actual reading though, so I can't complain too much. And that Walden on Wheels book? Just no...so judgy! I can't with that.

Thank you & yes! No hurt feelings if we both don't notice lol
DeleteI am reading - just not at my usually pace or anything I'm WOW about.
Welp, I'm a Sean Bean fan and like the mysteries and Frankenstein so... yeah, I'll be giving it a go.
ReplyDeleteYour banner is great even if your slump caused you to work on it. :) I do hope you're able to get out of that feeling. I'm feeling that way about a writing project right now and it stinks.
Your journey across America guy does sound like a jerk.
Haha! Forgetting your anniversary... at least you are doing it together. I'm bad about remembering exact dates or right on the exact day is when I forget so I totally get this. Have a great one... when you guys remember. :)
We watched for Sean Bean too :-)
DeleteIt's just a life funk right now - not even reading/blogging. Maybe I should give in and nap for a week lol
I started that one too and watching Jessica Jones season 2. I'm also watching timeless.
ReplyDeleteHa Ha about your anniversary and CONGRATS . I do hope to meet you someday and maybe make it out to florida area.
I've only seen a few episodes of JJ. I was waiting for Kevin to watch with me but never got to it.
DeleteThat would be awesome!
Sean Bean alone almost makes me want to watch Frankenstein Chronicles! I'm close to finishing up Jessica Jones S2 and after that... who knows?
ReplyDeleteOh and I feel free to blame EVERYTHING on the time change. I hate it every spring lolol...
Happy anniversary!!
That's why we watched it. It's a good series. Not exactly what I was expecting or hoping for but still good. I've heard that they might make a S3 too.
DeleteWe could completely be twinning Karen, I've literally no posts for my blog either. I whipped up a review yesterday to post for the first time in two.weeks and have no reviews on the horizon. Rather than rectify that, I spent the time online looking for a red utensils holder to match my kitchen appliances. Your Easter banner is my utensils holder.
ReplyDeleteAlso curious Karen before I forget to ask for the millionth time, do you have the mobile format activated on your blog? I don't know if it's my tablet but it won't let me access the mobile or responsive version.
Ha! Did you ever find your utensil holder?
DeleteI do have the mobile version on (& a mobile responsive template) and it works on my phone (Galaxy) & tablets. I wonder why it isn't working for you or if anyone else has the same problem.
Happy happy anniversary!! NO worries.. I literally forget ours all the time, too. LOL, thankfully Bryan set up a Google reminder so this way we can't just let the day go without at least a little fanfare :) Did you do anything to celebrate?
ReplyDeleteLOL, that review of the Walden book... Oh boy. I'm not sure I'd enjoy it either, based on what you pointed out. It sounds like the author is a bit too judgy and entitled for my liking, but hey, maybe I'll give it a go if I see it in a bookstore (prob not though, let's be real).
I like that you had two different times set throughout your house ;) We actually remembered to set our clocks to the right time when we had our power restored, BUT my brain hasn't quite adjusted yet. Ha!
I've tried reminders on my phone but once I dismiss it, it's gone from my brain lol I'm an old school physical paper/calendar kind of gal. Even then - I forget soooo
DeleteThe Walden book has some great things so I would say give it a try. I listened to it on audio so maybe that was a factor. A lot of those travelogue type books try to have humor and that's doesn't always translate well so maybe that was it??
That’s pretty funny about not changing all the clocks. Your whole day was probably screwed up. :) Sorry to hear about the funk. I hate when that happens.
ReplyDeleteHappy (belated) anniversary! So funny that you both sometimes forget. I’m just the opposite - my anniversary is pretty much my favorite days all year (right up there with Christmas) and we always plan a trip around that time so we celebrate our anniversary while we’re away somewhere. :)
Maybe we should book vacations for our anniversary - even if we forget we're still celebrating lol
DeleteWe're all allowed to go through reading/blogging/reviewing/life slumps! Do take a proper break if you feel like it- it might actually help you recharge and you might even find yourself thinking up new blog post ideas!
ReplyDeleteRuzaika @ The Regal Critiques
I've been through them enough that I just roll with it now lol I usually do come back recharged.
Deletei read a great book yesterday so that's helping.
If you ask me, your time was well spent! Your header is adorable. I often get lost in other things when I should be reading, drafting blog posts, writing two reviews . . .
ReplyDeleteI was int eh mood to write posts this weekend. Or I THOUGHT I was. Instead I cleaned the whole house. At least that was something that needed to be done too lol
DeleteStupid dang time change. I blame many things on it. lol Hope your funk lifts this week!
ReplyDeleteI like springing ahead better than falling back because I love longer days and not having to walk the dogs int he dark but I guess I'm getting older. It took me a week to adapt
DeleteYour Easter header is adorable! And happy Anniversary!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kristen!
DeleteI 100% condone watching Happy. When Dirk Gently was cancelled, a friend recommended it to me and I recommended into my husband, brother, and a friend. My brother and friend haven't started watching it yet andI know they'd like it. It's SUPER SUPER dark but also really clever and funny. BUT SO DARK. I am looking forward (?) to season 2!
ReplyDeleteI'm watching DG too! I only have S2 though so it took me a little bit to figure things out but I like it a lot.
Deleteyeah - Happy isn't for the faint of heart but it was well done.
That made me laugh about the two time zones thing. I genuinely just assume everything will change automatically because my phone and everything does so then I always forget to change my watch and become confused for a whole day because of it. I hope you come out of your funk but I know how you feel. Sometimes you just don't feel like reading and blogging and it's weird and you end up feeling a little lost but hopefully you'll be out of it soon. And I know I'm a little late but happy anniversary.
ReplyDeleteWho am I? Where am I? Me this week lol
DeleteIt's not even a slump in the burnout sense...I just don't feel like doing anything really lol
Pollen is the devil's magic, anniversaries are over-rated (🤣) and time on the Easter themed header was time well spent; It's lovely!
ReplyDeleteOh happy 31st anniversary! We must have both got married in 1987, because this July is our 31st. I can't believe you forget the date, lol! At least it is both of you that forget. Sorry to hear you having been in the reading mood much. Hope you pick up something that wows you soon. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the disorganization of blogging recently! I've been totally pantsing everything, lol. DANG, 31st anniversary! Congratulations, Karen. That's very cool.
