the friday five: scents

blog about it challenge

Blog All About it is a prompt challenge hosted by Anna at Herding Cats, Burning Soup. March’s prompt is SCENT

Five of my favorite scents

PUPPY SMELL

animal-cute-dog-39388

In puppies - there’s that spot on the nose, just below the eyes that smells like all things good in the world.

I know some people say the same thing about babies but I’m a all about the puppy smell!

STRAWBERRIES

I love strawberry scented products but it has to be the real fruit – not the fake stuff. That smells cloyingly sweet and fake. (And yes, I'm using strawberry scented baby body wash and lotion lol)

RAIN

I love the smell just after a rain shower. Everything is all crisp and clean smelling. Of course, in FL, that then becomes a humid, festering hell hole within a half hour – but I enjoy those first few minutes while they last lol

COCONUT

beach-coconut-delicious-322483

Coconut is probably my FAVORITE scent. I find it to be calm, comforting for some reason and if I could wrap myself up in a coconut scented blanket I would.

THE BEACH/MOUNTAINS

I love it whenever I can get out in nature and smell that fresh, clean air. At the beach, I love the smell of sand, saltiness and warm breezes and in the mountains I love how natural everything smells – like it’s been here long before we existed and will still be here long after we’re gone.

What are your favorite scents?

  1. Hmmm. I think we have different taste in scents (well that was a weird sentence lol). I don't think I've ever specifically smelled a puppy? And I don't like the smell of coconut. I imagine I would like strawberry, but I can't really recall the scent atm. Fresh naturey air is good though. My favorite scent is cinnamon :-)

    1. I love cinnamon too. I'm not a huge fan of scented products - except coconut in my soaps and lotions. I prefer natural aromas that just happen to exist lol

Wow. Talk about philosophy AND poetry ๐Ÿ˜ƒ.

I didn't know about the puppy smell. I don't think I've ever been so face-to-face with one as to inhale theirs. You're like the walking and breathing Dogopedia LOL.

And I don't think I have a favourite scent either...but if I did, I suppose it would be something more on the bitter than on the sweet side? since I don't have a sweet tooth? I don't know...

    1. Welcome to Deep Thoughts with Karen lol

I don't really seek out scented things or wear perfume but if I stumble upon something that smells natural - like the real thing - I'll buy it.

What smells bitter? Trying to think of something...

    2. I don't know...I mean...something like lemon?

  3. Your last three are scents I like too. The smell of the beach makes me feel relaxed. I also love the smell of Christmas trees which is why we get a real one every year!

    1. The beach is so soothing. The smell, sound of the waves, sticking your toes int he sand.

  4. Ohhhhh yes! I'm burning a coconut candle at the moment and the scent travels through the entire house. I love the tropical scents, soap, for my hair, even coconut perfume from The Body Shop. That Cavalier puppy looks like my furbaby when he was born. I love that puppy smell, their delicate puppy shampoo and they always smell sleepy.

    1. I had a lotion that was vanilla coconut and it was perfect. All warm and cozy smelling.

  5. You have a good nose! I like all those scents too. There's nothing better than that mountain air.

  6. I'm with you on all of those. I think this is why the winter depresses me so much. I miss the beach and the mountains so much when I'm stuck in the house with endless months of cold and snow.

    1. Winter is my season to get out. Summer is my - it's too oppressive to go outside/get depressed - season. lol

  10. I, too, mentioned rain. There's something very distinctive about it's smell.

    1. It rained yesterday and I made sure to get out and walk the dogs right after it stopped. Before it turns to FL steam lol

    2. Yes pizza- all the time!!!!!

Whenever I've been to FL it does get pretty humid/ steamy after a rain shower, so yeah that would be annoying. :) Wearing those parka things at Disney- I about melted, they might keep the rain off but I was so hot in the damn thing too lol.

    3. Those rain ponchos are like personal saunas lol

  13. I'm not a coconut fan, but the others? Oh yes. I keep seeing wonderful posts and realize I left out so many good ones off my list. And, would you know? I just read that William Wordsworth, the poet, didn't have the sense of smell, poor guy!

    1. Same with me! Plus I decided to go with 5 but I forgot bread!!!

  14. I just did something similar on Twitter! Pizza (Greg!), definitely rain (especially during and after a storm), a crisp winter night, babies (but only my own, lol), crackling fire (and how smoky I smell afterward), freshly brewed coffee first thing in the morning, and a match that has recently been blown out (weird, I know).

    1. mmmmm pizza! That's a good one and had I thought of it earlier - any type of bread/dough. That's like heaven for me.

I thought coffee because I like it but narrowed down it didn't make the list.

    2. Does anyone else love the smell when you walk into a Subway and they've been baking bread???

      Delete
    3. That's the one scent I totally forgot about! I LOVE the smell of fresh bread.

I even love the smell of dough before it's baked.

  15. I agree with you except for the coconut ;) Not a fan of that one!

  16. I am with you - rain, mountain air, and the beach. There was this perfume at Sephora called Beach something or other, and it really did remind me of the beach. Loved it.

  17. I love food smells so I have to agree with you about coconut and strawberry scents. I think I love everything about puppies :) Great post!

  18. I have a love/hate relationship with any type of nature-y smells -- rain, beach, mountain. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I don't. xD Strawberries are the best, though! To smell and to eat. ;)

    1. That's funny. I only like cool rain - in FL it turns from relief to sauna in about 10 minutes lol

  19. I don't know about that particular puppy spot but I love puppy breathe! lol With you on coconut. I don't like the taste but love the smell of them :)

    1. Anything puppy is good!

It's weird that kittens don't have a particular smell though.

  20. I usually try to stay away from fruit scented things because of that awful overly-sweet scent they have. It's very hard to find something that doesn't have that artificial smell to it.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Me too. It has to be natural scent. I don't like artificial fruit flavored food either. It tastes like medicine to me.

  21. Oh I have to agree with you on puppies and rain. It doesn't rain nearly enough here in my part of Texas and when it does it usually smells like wet dirt. Ew. However on those cold days it does rain, oh I love that smell.

    1. In FL there's a 5-10 minute window where it smells crisp and clean them turns to sticky and oppressive.

  22. Oh, right after it rains is wonderful. I feel you on it getting humid and gross too quick after though. Coconut is a favorite scent of mine as well!!

    1. It's nicer up north where it's cooler but down here it turns into a sauna after the rain. You have to run out and enjoy it while it lasts.

  24. This post just calmed the hell out of me! One of my favorite smells is rain and my favorite artificial smells are fresh linen and lilacs. I usually get wall scents from Bath and Body Works in fresh linen cuz I can't get enough!

    Baking bread.

    Sigh.

  26. Great choices!
They say that the after-the-rain scent is the smell of ozone. I'm wondering who flew up that high and took a whiff?
