the friday 5: birthday book wishlist

I’ve been so overwhelmed by books that I haven’t bought many new releases the past few years (other than Kindle deals). My birthday is coming up next week though – and I’m finally making progress on the TBR pile so I might splurge a little and buy myself a few.

Here are 5 that have been on my radar thanks to all the positive reviews I’ve read by blogger friends…

1.

Autoboyography by Christina Lauren ~ Goodreads

28919058

This book has been on my list since it came out in September of 2017. I’m not even sure why I haven’t bought it yet but I WANT IT.

2.

The Epic Crush of Genie Lo by F.C. Yee ~ Goodreads

30116958

Every one I know enjoyed this one, including my book blogging yoda – Jen Ryland. If she rec’s a book – I listen.

 3.

The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan ~ Goodreads

356046869781510102965

That cover and title – I mean…how can you look away? (I also LOVE that alternate cover). Kelly from Diva Booknerd wrote a gorgeous review for this one (all her reviews are gorgeous btw) and I think I need this book in my life.

4.
The Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi ~ Goodreads

34728667

I’m not a huge fantasy reader but I’ve had my eye on this book for a long time. Both Diva Booknerd and Amber from Du Livre loved it. I had a chance to try a sample the other day and the writing wasn’t too *over the top fantasy* for me so I think I’m going to give it a go.

5.

Picture Us in the Light by Kelly Loy Gilbert ~ Goodreads

I’m cheating and picking two here…cuz it’s my birthday (almost) and I can do what I want lol

35960060

This book just came out on Tuesday and it was popping up all over my Twitter feed. It sounds pretty gut wrenching but I think I’m in the mood for that right now.

Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian ~ Goodreads

32333296

Remember me mentioning my book yoda, Jen Ryland above? Well, she loved this one book – her review says it has girl power, female friendships, subtle, nuanced and realistic romance & ice cream!! Sold!

Are there any other books I should be adding to my birthday book haul?

And in case you haven't entered yet - I'm having a birthday giveaway right now - enter to win a book of your choice!

I refuse to contribute to your downfall LOL.

The second cover for TACOA is indeed gorgeous! Looking forward to your thoughts on that one.

Are you ready for your coming of age? 😉😂

    1. It didn't seem TOO fantasy for me from what I read. I might see if the library has it but it was pretty cheap at Walmart too.

  5. You're now the second person to mention Picture Us in the Light to me--will have do add it to you my to-read list. Thanks! Also yes! The cover, the title, and the description of The Astonishing Color of After--everything sounds amazing. Thank you for sharing, and hope you have a wonderful birthday next week, momma! Any special plans??

    1. I had just heard about it but it is ALL OVER my Twitter feed!

Nothing planned yet. My husband has been working every day for the past 2 weeks. I don't usually do much but going out to eat somewhere new would be nice.

  10. Happy (early) birthday, Karen! Yes to Autoboyography! I feel like I gush about that one at least once a week. :) I saw Amber's review of Children of Blood and Bone and it sure sounds like it lives up to the hype. I'm seeing Picture Us In the Light everywhere the last few days and I definitely want to read it.

    1. Thanks! I don't know why I haven't read it yet! It's totally my kind of book. I think everyone was talking about it before it came out and then I just missed when it actually released and forgot.

  11. Autoboyography is such a wonderful book! It was one of my favorite reads last year. Genie Lo was fantastic as well. I am so excited that we are getting a sequel. Astonishing Color was very good as well. I really liked the way Pan used the magical realism elements.

  14. Next week hey! I shall wish you a happy birthday every day starting Monday now. I do hope Fonzi will be sporting a dapper party hat for the occasion. YAY, a review made someone want to pick up a book I've read! I'm just stoked someone is reading my posts quite frankly. The Epic Crush of Genie Lo is one that I've really wanted to read as well but haven't gotten around to buying it yet. Will be picking up a copy this week too, thanks for the reminder. If you want to have a buddy read, give me a shout BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRTHDAY GIIIIIIIIIIIIRL <3 <3

  15. Do it. At worse your TBR pile is a little bigger. Still with a Christmas book token myself, the Emily X.R. Pan books really appeal to me.

  16. Definitely splurge Karen! You have some nice books on this list and it'd be a shame not to read them. ;)

  17. I'm not a big fantasy reader either, but I love the cover for Children of Blood and Bone. I'm hoping my library gets a copy in so that I can borrow it.

  18. I finally bought Autoboyography too. It was on my wish list, but then I saw all the rave reviews. So now I just need to read it! LOL Yay for having Picture Us in the Light on your wish list though; that book is amazing.

  21. Definitely read Genie Lo, that book was awesome! And Autoboyography, I've heard awesome things about that book. The rest I'm still dithering over, I just don't know. I think I need the hype to die down on two of them.
