TBB Asks–may entertainment edition

TBB ASKS _ MAY

TBB Asks is hosted by The Blended Blog

Comedy or Drama? I enjoy both but I LOVE to laugh so comedy.

Fiction or Non – Fiction? I also like to escape reality when I read - so fiction!

Movies in Theater or At Home? Both! There are just too many movies and not enough time to see them all in the theater so I'll watch however I can. But I do love the theater experience for certain films. We usually go to the Tuesday matinee because I hate crowds and for the $1 popcorn.

Musical or Play? Neither. 😱I KNOW! I'm a book-ish person. I should also love musicals and plays but I don't. Especially musicals. Other than the musical BtVS episode I don't want people randomly breaking out into song. It annoys me. lol DON'T JUDGE ME.

Which Meal of the day is your favorite to eat out? I'll eat out for any meal! But my favorite is breakfast because I love fancy breakfasts but to cook? Nah - let someone else handle it.

Favorite Book ever read? OMG - seriously??? I can't pick one. Or two. Or three. And it changes depending on how I feel. I plead the 5th.

Game Night: Yes or No? No. I play silly games on my tablet when I'm bored but that's about it.

Favorite Outside game to Play? This is not an official game but Fonzi has this favorite toy - a rubber ball on a rope from Planet Dog (that I've had since Indy was a puppy 15 years ago). Kevin and I throw it back & forth - keeping it away from Fonzi - zig zagging all around the yard and Fonzi LOVES it & it makes us all exhausted.

Sitcoms growing up or Sitcoms today? I'm a child of the 70's/80's so definitely sitcoms growing up. It was like the golden age of sitcoms - Welcome Back Kotter, Night Court, Cheers, Happy Days, Facts of Life, All in the Family, Mork & Mindy, The Jeffersons....I could go on forever! And I watched them all!

Miniature Golf or Bowling? I haven't done either in years but when Kevin & I first got married and were broke - we used to go miniature golfing every single weekend for $5 plus whatever free games we won for a hole in one in the last hole - which we did a lot. We couldn't afford to do anything else. Then we bought an Orange Crush and chips from the vending machine for food.

Favorite Movie Theater Candy? *whispers* we bring our own - don't call the theater police. Kevin brings Twizzlers - I have Swedish Fish (actually Ikea's version and they're horses - YUM) and then a mix of M&M's - dark chocolate with regular. 2 M&'s for every fish. Yes, I'm super precise about this. I count. If I'm short on something there's hell to pay! lol It drives Kevin nuts 😜

How do you like your popcorn? Butter and salt - but not too much of either.

3D Movies with the glasses: Yes or No? Nope.

Favorite Genre or Books to Read? It depends on my mood. All last year it was romance. I needed the escapism. Now? I've been bouncing around from dystopia to contemporary, romance - no romance, a little sci-fi, mystery. I'm enjoying it all.

  1. I prefer watching movies at home. It's just more comfortable, cheaper, and I can pause it when I need to go to the bathroom. ;)

    1. I watch more at home than at a theater these days> even matinees are expensive so I have to be pretty sure I'll like it.

  2. If we're talking books, I prefer drama, but I prefer comedy in movies. And I definitely prefer watching movies at home. I have a terrible habit of falling asleep in theatres.

AND BUNCH-A-BRUNCH WILL ALWAYS BE MY JAM!!

    1. You fall asleep? lol

My father did that. He bugged me forever to see the new Superman when it came out - slept through almost all of it then complained that he didn't wear the cape in the movie lol

  3. You're very serious about your movie theatre candy. lol I like Junior Mints but I bring my own too if I go out to a movie. These days though I just stay home and rent it On Demand. Last time I went to a theatre I yelled at a couple of teenagers behind me who kept kicking the back of my seat and throwing popcorn. Their father wasn't too happy with me and they moved their seats. That was about 15 years ago. LOL

    1. VERY. lol

We go to matinees and live in a smaller town so most of the time there are only 3-4 other people there.

  4. I hate the crowds too. We go on Tues nights because the tickets are only $5.00 and I always reserve an end seat so I never have to sit near a stranger! I sneak in my own snacks too because I refuse to pay $5 bucks for a $1 box of candy. My mom once brought in a full takeout meal, haha so I guess that's where I get it.

    1. That's what we do - except the first show at 1-:3o- or 11am. It's cheaper and no one is there and the popcorn/candy is cheap on Tuesday's.

I went with my neighbor once and she whipped out a (stinky) sandwich and chips and I was like...whaaa??? lol

But they sell worse at the concession stands now so I guess it's all good.

  6. I love watching movies in the theatre. It's the experience and the smell of popcorn, I think. Oh man. FAvourite book? I'd be like, how much time do you have? Lol.

    1. I prefer the theater too - I have to be pretty sure I'll like it though. I don't take as many chances because it's so pricey.

      I know - ONE book? I can't do that lol I can't even pick a handful.

  7. You don't like musicals?! What a monster! 😝
I never eat out for breakfast at home but in the US I wake up with Denny's or Ihop on the brain...

I never realized going out to breakfast was an American thing O_o???? You're the second person to mention it.

  8. Your stories are always entertaining LOL.

I never go to the movies...neither I watch them at home. They just don't appeal to me. COULD WE HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON? Of course not LOL. I'm a TV series buff...but I'm very selective with them all the same. And sitcoms are not my jam (see above...).

I like minigolf. I used to play it a lifetime ago - plus pool instead of bowling. My current situation rules both out.

    1. I don't watch a lot of movies. In fact - I probably wouldn't see any if it wasn't for Kevin lol I do enjoy them once I have though.

I don't watch a lot of tv now either although I was a tv addict when I was younger. I mean - I watched EVERYTHING on every channel. Of course, this was before all the cable channels and Netflix binging.

  10. I cannot buy movie theater candy for a few reasons: 1) it's probably not vegan, 2) it's WAY TOO EXPENSIVE and I just spent $15 on the movie ticket, 3) they give you tiny portions that wouldn't satisfy my four-year-old. I just pack what I want/need in my purse and go. Although, did you hear they've started searching people's bags/purses to make sure they're not doing that?

    1. Our theater (Regal) has a summer kids movie series and those are free.

I know they've been searching bags for years but it hasn't happened to me yet. I use little ziplock bags and act all casual lol so I guess I' don't look suspicious.

  11. $1 popcorn??? That exists?! I haven't been to a theater for... at least 7 years? I stopped going because they're just expensive and uncomfortable and I like being able to pause the movie if I want, to talk, etc. Just not for me! I love musicals though! And I did enjoy going to some plays in high school and college. Also, I've never really liked breakfast foods (nor eating that early), and I've always loved board game nights. So we're opposites, apparently lol. I love that you have a specific way you eat your candy though!

    1. On Tuesday's at my theater. And $2 candy.

I have enjoyed a few plays that I've gone to but they aren't anything that I go out of my way to see.

If I'm eating at home then breakfast is a granola bar or cereal just so I don't pass out but I do like it if someone else is doing all the work lol We have a few good restaurants that do awesome brunches.

  12. I totally feel the same way about the drama/comedy question. I enjoy my fair share of both, but if I had to choose, I'd definitely say comedy. Plus I'm a butter + salt girl myself, except that I ALWAYS ask for extra butter. xD And it's so nice that you're enjoying so many different genres now, Karen! ♥

    1. At our theater you put on your own butter and we have this weird process. A little butter on top - shake...shake....a little around the edges - shake...shake...then one all over squirt lol

I don't think I've ever read this carried before. I tend to love something and read EVERYTHING from that genre until I'm burned out but it's been fun bouncing around.

  14. Yes, to breakfast! I love going out to eat it, but not so much making it at home. And I love eating breakfast for dinner, too.

No musicals or plays here, either.

    These are so fun!

    1. I like too many things at breakfast - like eggs, pancakes, bacon, fruit...and to coordinate the pans/the timing....ugh lol

And yes to breakfast for dinner!

  15. I actually prefer watching movie at home but sometimes, it's good to watch a really good movie in the cinema especially when you're with your good friends and it's a horror movie. It's just very entertaining to see other viewer's reaction especially when the ghost finally shows up hihi

  16. I'm starting to believe we might be the same person Karen. I'm the crude, cussing version. Is it just the snacks or do you find you count other objects too? I have a compulsion to nibble evenly too. You can't ask a reader what their favourite book is but I'm all for a fancy breakfast <3 <3

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Uh - I have a cussing/crude version lol

I like things even (or a certain # like the 2 to 1 candy ratio). I wouldn't say I'm super compulsive or like that with everything - I can let it go - but another weird one I have is crunching leaves in the fall. If I step on a crunchy leaf with my left foot - then I have to do it with my right foot too or I get twitchy lol

  17. I'm also the worst with picking a favorite book there are so many great ones I've read. I bring my own candy too, it's not rude it's smart!

    1. Who can even afford popcorn/drink/candy anymore???

      Delete
  18. Oh I love this. I'm not one for the theater for movies these days. Way too many people and yeah, I don't do well with crowds but when I did go I would always pack my own snacks with the exception of popcorn and a drink. That stuff is expensive! I do enjoy musicals though. Not all of them, just some. I love Gene Kelly's musicals, and I just saw The Greatest Showman which I loved but La La Land was a dud for me, I don't know why it won so many awards and Showman barely got noticed. It just depends on the musical.

    1. I only go to matinees and around here that means 4-5 people - sometimes no one other than my husband and I. And our theater does $1 popcorn on Tuesdays so it's not too bad.

I haven't seen any of the recent musicals but I always give them a try in case one does work for me.

  23. Though I did watch the sitcoms of my youth (I am also 70s/80s), I loved watching sitcoms from the 50s and 60s even more. Gidget, Make Room for Daddy, The Patty Duke Show, Leave it to Beaver, etc - I loved them all.

  25. My breakfast is coffee, can't handle anythin else so early and also, eating breakfast out isn't really a thing here, like at all. And I usually don't even get popcorn at the movies, the sounds of people eating while I'm trying to watch is so annoying, even those I make but it depends on the movie. Some movies are not popcorn type of movies to me.

Normally I love Junior Mints for theatre candy, it goes so well with popcorn.

  27. I concur with your view on musicals (most are vapid) but please, please re-consider your view on plays as an art-form. There are some fabulous ones and they are close to literature in ambition and intelligence. Lucky enough to live near NYC, I've seen plays that have changed my life. Works as good as literature but electrically brought to vivid life by talented performers. Examples: Amy Irving in "The Road To Mecca" (1988) and Lois Smith in "The Trip to Bountiful" (2005).
