the friday five

This has been a loooong week people!

I posted on Monday about being overwhelmed by books after ALA and I already knew it wasn’t about the books specifically – meaning not knowing what to read next – but that I never want to read at all post conferences. Then Tanya from Girl Plus Books left a comment talking about being burned out from *peopling* at the conferences and THAT”S IT!!!

I’m such an introvert but at conferences I’m with my people lol and chat away and socialize in ways that I NEVER do otherwise. When I get home I’m drained. So keeping that in mind – I napped and gardened and played computer games and stopped thinking about it and now I’m refreshed and reading again. So thank you Tanya!

And let’s kick off The Friday Five!
1.

OMGHEISSOCUTE!

If you follow me on Twitter and IG then you already know that my husband rescued a dog standing in the middle of an intersection on the way to work at 5am the other day. He is the sweetest little guy! Older – maybe 8-10 years old?? but in good shape, super mellow, loves car rides.

We’re still looking for an owner (he was microchipped but only had an email for contact info) but he’s staying with friends of ours who just lost their Yorkie to cancer a few weeks ago. They already love him and will keep him if his owners aren’t found.

He’ll be staying at beach side condo this weekend. So basically he’ll be living his best life.
*also…Figment and Fonzi were in agreement for once. NO NEW DOGS lol

2.

And that's all I'll say about that. GOOD DAY!

Although I do use an e-reader – I loved Brooke Reports TMST post about things we like about e-readers. She’s…not a fan lol

3.

Catching up on TV/movies…

I don’t think Diet Land is my thing. I dnf’d the book as well. I love some moments but the show tends to wander at times until it finally reaches the point it's trying to make.
Pose has some amazing storytelling and acting. The Incredibles 2 was super cute and didn’t miss a beat after being away for so long. Justice League. Well, that’s two hours I’ll never get back. I did love The Flash though.

4.

My happy place (& Fonzi’s)

I am so in love with my butterfly garden this year! It’s the first time in years that I had time to get in there and clean it up and the plants – the weather – everything cooperated and it’s perfect!

It’s also hotter than hell – so I’m just looking at it from inside my enclosed lanai these days though lol

My favorite happy place blog

Peaceful-Posse-Friday

My Pixie Blog has become one of my favorite blog stops. It’s a lifestyle blog, and I don’t really follow those, but Charlotte is different. She discuses everything from fostering dogs, food, trying new products, goat yoga!, her struggles with buying a new home – and she always does it with such honesty. It feels real. Her blog just makes me happy!

And every Friday she has a What’s Up Weekend post to share the things she is grateful for that week.  I really look forward to ending my week with those posts.

  1. Yay, I'm glad someone helped you figure out the prob so that you could recharge and want to read again! Aww cute doggy <3 Your butterfly garden is so pretty, and Fonzi looks so majestic in that photo lol.

    What is goat yoga???

  2. Fonzi is like - see, I can look cute even in the most hellish heat! LOL.

We already talked (tweeted) at length about the stray little cutie. He got lucky Kevin rescued him from that intersection. And he's happy now, whether he finds his old family or not...Who came up with the saying "a dog's life" as if it were a bad thing? (yes, we have it in Italy as well). I'll take a dog's life over mine any day! LOL.

    1. That is his favorite spot int he yard - despite hating the heat. i don't gt it lol

I think I would rather be a cat (not Figment of course). They don't care about much. Dogs usually have it good but they need people too much.

  3. Oh that rescued doggy is adorable!! So is Fonzi :) I really need to check out more lifestyle blogs but never know where to start!

    1. I would definitely start with Charlotte's blog! It's beautiful while still being relatable and down to earth. It' snot heavy on promotional things and even when she does post about those things - she's honest.

  4. I'm an introvert too so I totally get what you're saying. So happy to hear that if you can't find the owners that he will have a new happy home.

  6. I've been tempted by Dietland but I don't think it's for me either. I watch too much tv as it is anyway. So glad that little was rescued by your husband! Enjoy your weekend and all of your new books :)

    1. It's very surreal so if you don't like that type of television than you won't like it. It has brilliant moments but eh...

  8. Oh my goodness. I can't believe you still have the dog. I thought for sure the owner would be on it and would have gotten back to you.

  9. I understand where you are coming from being an introvert myself. I wonder how the dog got lost in the first place? Are the owners even looking for him. At least he is happy where he is at the moment.

    1. It might have bee fireworks from the 4th or one of our bad thunderstorms. Not sure. We haven't seen any signs and they haven't answered their email. But he's doing great.

  10. That is so nice of you and your husband to take care of that dog and search for his family. If they microchipped him, I can only imagine that they will be thrilled by his return. You dog is so beautiful and ridiculously photogenic. I saw Brooke's post. I laughed when I saw it, but I am an eReader lover.

  13. I'm the same way I think- after a convention or conference it's nice to veg a little. And aww... what a cute dog! I hope your friends totally love him having him (sounds like they will) if the owners don't respond.

Love the butterfly garden pic! Looks nice!!

  14. That's so sweet that your husband rescued that little guy! He's so cute!

Your butterfly garden does look beautiful, but I hear you on the heat! We had a high of 118 last Friday and it felt like the inside of an oven. Never had it that hot before. Thank goodness it's cooled down and I'm in East Bay, San Francisco area now so I'm in cooler parts. Enjoy your weekend, Karen! :)

    1. We've been pretty good as far as humidity but this weekend it hit and UGHHHH. It makes everything so much worse. I
m sure my gardening days are done for the summer.

I didn't realize it had gotten that hot where you are. That's unusual right?

  15. I have never been to a book con yet, but all the conferences for work leave me people'd out like that, too. Glad you got some recharge time. Your butterfly garden is gorgeous. Neat that the little rescue is having quite the life of it while waiting to see if anyone comes.
Your lifestyle blogger does sound like a great stop.

    Have a good week, Karen!

  17. I used to be a people person, but now I'd rather say home and play with my kids. I think it's because I used to work in retail, so I HAD to be conversational, smiley, and out in the world. Teaching isn't like that... sure there are teachers I interacted with, but mostly it was small children, and they're the best people to talk to. They always have something interesting to share, and they always mean what they say. I'm not teaching right now while I stay home with mine, but that's okay. I love spending my days with my kiddos and my bookish community friends. <3

  18. Oh my gosh. Sweet baby. Im glad he's safe! If you call the chip company they should be able to tell who bought the microchip. Not the family but the original so either the breeder, vet clinic or animal rescue. They might have a better idea of who the owner is other than just an email.

    1. Yeah - we're working on a few other angels with the chip but still so far nothing. I can't believe there are no reports or signs of him missing. He's an amazing little guy.

  19. I am about as introverted as a person can be so I know all about needing to recharge. I'm glad you were able to do so.

    1. It completely drains me. Book conferences are one of the few places that I actually talk to people because most of them are introverts like me. So you can talk and walk away when you get overwhelmed and everyone gets it.

I totally understand being peopled out. I get peopled out a lot at work (everyday is a mini peopling out) and when I come home I like to hide in the kitchen and not talk for a while under the disguise of cooking dinner just to reset my brain, lol.
