tell me something tuesday
Tell Me Something Tuesday is hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings and discusses a wide range of topics from books to blogging.
Question: What are you thankful for this year?
Answer: As most of you know already, if you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, we had to put my 16 year old sheltie, Indy, to sleep last week so I wasn’t feeling very thankful or in the mood to write this weeks TMST post.
But several days have passed and Thanksgiving is coming and I want to replace sadness with happy thoughts of my boy and be grateful for all the wonderful things I have in my life.
I'm thankful for...
Indy
I’ve lost several pets over the years but he’s a really tough one for me. He came into my life right when I needed him and changed everything abut my boring, introverted little world.
And he is the last of my original “teamsheltie” (if you follow me on SM – you’ll get that reference) – Indy, Lily Beau. I miss them all so much.
But! He lived a long 16 years and other than some age related issues – going blind, deaf and a little senile – he was healthy the whole time up until his last day. No vet visits, no poking, prodding, or invasive treatments. So I’m very thankful for that. And I have a mobile vet that comes to the house & we’re good friends so he got to be in the comfort of his own home with people who loved him.
Fonzi
This dog is the light of my life and my shadow. He’s so in tune with my feelings and just wants to be near me at all times. He lost his mom (& a good friend of mine) a few years ago and I’m so thankful to have been trusted and be the one she chose for his next forever home. Losing Beau a few years ago, and now Indy, would have been so much worse without him in my life.
And he lets me put silly hats and glasses on him and takes #tongueouttuesdayseflies with me. What more could you ask for in a dog??
Figgy
This is me being a bad cat mom but Figment is an ungrateful asshole lol He just is. He has an awesome life and constant attention but if I go out for the day it’s absolutely crushing to him. Go on vacation? He vomits and stops eating. He HATES when I read. He drools all over my books & Kindle. He hates Fonzi.
But…he speaks to my grinchy little heart and I love that little weirdo.
On to bookish thanks!
After 9 years, blogging and reading isn’t what it used to be for me. I admit that some of the joy has died down. I don’t always feel like posting anymore but despite that I am the most comfortable and happy with blogging right now than I have been in years.
I let go of all that “how you should blog” kind of thing & stats. I have a faithful little crew of followers and bookish friends and it makes me happy.
I don’t want to forget anyone so I’ll give a generic shout out to all of you have have visited or commented on the blog, done buddy reads, shared your books, let me vent privately about a book or bookish drama, sent me cards and goodies, touched base with me when you know I’m down, supported me when good things happen, share my posts and just generally being the best community out there.
To the bloggers who have been there since the beginning (there are still a few!) – THANK YOU!!! Can you believe it?? WE’RE STILL HERE!!! lol
Also, how crazy is it that little old me has met authors, receives arc’s, gets to go to book conferences?? I mean – it’s an amazing little world I’ve stumbled into.
I’m thankful for finally getting that TBR pile down. finding several 5 star reads for 2018 and being able to go to ALA again this year!
Kevin
And finally, I’m most thankful for my husband, Kevin who indulges all my passion for pets and books. He doesn't even flinch when I ask him to bring home heavy chains or carry a bag of skulls to the local park for book pictures or wait in long lines at book cons for books. He's the best!
Oh - ONE MORE THING!!! I'm thankful for the homemade apple pie I will be having Thursday! PIE!!!!
I hope you all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving & Holiday season!
I might be a little scarce since Kevin has some vacation coming and we might do a little traveling but I have a few things scheduled including two giveaways – one starting this Friday and the other for the month of December

Aw Fonzi sounds really special, and Figgy... that cracked me up! Cats! They think they own the place lol.
ReplyDeletethere's something special and comforting about having a stable and loyal following- the community really is special, I agree.
"bag of skulls" lol.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Fonzi is the best.
DeleteFiggy is the highest maintenance cat I have ever owned. I need a petsitter at the house - not for the dogs - but for him lol He needs a constant stream of love and attention lol
I crying! This was a beautiful tribute to all your loved ones.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam {{hugs}}
DeleteWow, that's so impressive that Indy had such a healthy life! And you better love and appreciate your asshole of a cat! Drooling and vomiting means he cares...I think.
ReplyDeleteKevin is pretty cool, tell him I say so!
Have a good Thanksgiving love!
It really was. He had bloodwork done earlier this year and everything was still perfect and he never lost any weight. He had old dog problems but nothing major.
DeleteFigment loves too much lol I rescued him from a tree in a thunder storm and he's been obsessed with me ever since. It's cute - except that I can't be with him 24/7 :-)
You know, sorry to all the rest, but I do adore Figgy the best since he looks like Luci ;D Kisses Figgy!
ReplyDeleteOur ginger kitties!
DeleteHe's a brat but he's MY brat lol
I'm so sorry about Indy but the good thing is you had many happy years with him. Fonzi is a gorgeous colour...and he can give you big doggy cuddles to help. I'm so not a cat person though!
ReplyDeleteThank you. And really am grateful for that. 16 is a good long life.
DeleteFonzi is an amazing dog and Figment wouldn't be the one to change your mind about cats lol He's nice but a curmudgeon :-))
Aww, Fonzi is so cute!!
ReplyDeleteHe is :-))) I <3 him so much!
DeleteAw sorry to hear about Indy. Fonzi seems like the best. Dude you made me laugh with the blurb for Figgy. Bookish peeps are the best ❤your husband sounds wonderful!! Mine would not carry a bag of skulls for a picture lol . Have a great Thanksgiving!!
ReplyDeleteHaving Fonzi has made it a little bit easier.
DeleteAnd Figgy - yeah - had to keep it real lol
Oh, Figgy. haha Don't you just love cats sometimes? LOL I am very sorry about Indy. My own dog is a month away from 16 and while she's luckily been a healthy pet, it still worries me the older she gets. I'm very glad you have Fonzi with you though. I'm sure that does help when you're missing Indy. Also, Kevin sounds amazing. I need a partner that indulges all my weirdness. HAH!
ReplyDeleteIf you do get some traveling in soon, I hope you have a great time and that Figgy doesn't protest by not eating. ;)

He's SO needy lol but I love him.
DeleteIt is really hard when they get old because you know it's coming and you just hope that it's not too bad for them.
Love this post. It's so honest. So very sorry about Indy. Dogs are so wonderful that it's not really fair that they can't be with us for longer. And Kevin definitely is the best. He is unflappable and completely patient. He's a keeper!

Delete16 years is so long - yet not enough.
Kevin is definitely a keeper!
It's always so hard to put down a pet. I've had to do it with several of the rats I had and no matter what kind of pet you have, it's hard. All we can do is be happy we had them in our lives for as long as we did.
ReplyDeleteIt really is. We've been through it 12 times since we've been married and it's always hard. Every. Single. Time.
DeleteHow many rats do you have now Mary? I've only seen pictures of Falcor.
So Sorry to hear about Indy :( These are lovely pictures. Glad you had wonderful moments with all of then. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThank you. He had a long, happy life and that's more than I could ask for.
DeleteI hope you have a great Thanksgiving too Daniela.
LOL, tongue siblings!
ReplyDeleteWe have already talked about Indy on Twitter, so...yeah. At least he had a great life until the very end. And of course I know EVERYTHING about Figgy's shenanigans 😂.
I'm thankful for your RTs and your comments and your being there for me since we met. When I was a newbie blogger you helped me find a community, and you still are a huge part of it! Happy Thanksgiving!
Gah - you made me tear up Roberta. That's so sweet of you to say.
DeleteYou are my #1 blogging cheerleader and that means more than I can say - especially when I feel like I'm over the whole thing lol
We are each other's cheerleaders then! And don't you DARE stop blogging 😠😂.
DeleteSorry you lost your dog. *Hugs.* Your description of the cat made me laugh, though. My sister had an asshole cat. It would hide and then randomly jump out and bite whoever walked by.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I absolutely love him and he loves me - but almost too much and makes him an asshole if he doesn't have me constantly lol
DeleteI'm very sorry for your loss. One of my dogs, Ozzy, passed away last week. It's definitely hard to let go of such sweet members of the family.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm sorry Amy. It is a hard thing to go through.
DeleteI'm so sorry about Indy. Sending hugs your way <3 Figgy sounds like a piece of work, haha, but so cute! I'm glad you're at a good place w/ your blog, and I hope the pie was good :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your loss about Indy. It's a shame figgy has such bad seperation anxiety, and congrats on nine years, my enthusiasm for it does go up and down but it makes me feel great to have a platform.

I love how much you love your pets and how thankful you are for your family (that includes your husbands and pets both ;) ) Also, I really love your blog and am thankful for YOU too <3
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet little herd babes who have had wonderful lives with you. <3 It is hard losing the last of the original herd. That happened for us this year, too, when the turtle passed unexpectedly.
