My Monday Musings: August Wrap-Up
I had a GREAT reading (& blogging) month!
Read:
I read 12 books and most of them were SO good.
Like a Love Story and The Music of What Happens are definitely on Top 10 list for favorite books this year.
The Corgi Mystery cozy series has been a lot of fun to read.
I managed to read 3 books for the Dog Days of Summer reading challenge and that’s about 3 books more than I managed to read for ANY reading challenge outside of the generic Goodreads one.
7 were from the library and since so many of my books come from there now I joined the Library Love reading challenge – that makes 4 out 36 (I started late so I’m not including books I read before I joined). To me, this is like the Goodreads challenge. I feel zero pressure since it’s already what I’m doing anyway.
2 were arc's for upcoming reviews – American Love Story by Adriana Herrara and Dine with Me by Layla Reyne.
The only two that I didn’t love were The Right Swipe (dnf’d because the heroine just hung on to irrational grudges_ and Things You Save in A Fire ( I did like it! But it wasn’t the devastating, emotional read that I was expecting. Before any one issue could be dealt with an even bigger one was thrown in). But I’m an extreme outlier with both of those. They are both 5 star hits on Goodreads.
Angelfall was super trippy but fun and I’m looking forward to reading the next two.
I’ll have a review up for One Day to Fall this week.

September TBR:
WHATEVER I WANT
lol I have No review books so I really don’t have anything I need to read and nothing I have in mind other than finishing up the Penryn & the End of Days trilogy
Life:
I had started getting ahead with blogging and had planned on writing my Squirrel Fest post but then had a little detour with Fonzi. I found a lump and had to bring him to the vet. He also had some wonky bloodwork before moving here that needed to be rechecked.
I, of course, as any self respecting pet parent does, fell into a stress spiral. The lump is just a fatty growth and his bloodwork is still a little wonky and requires follow up (ultrasound with a specialist).
But he needed his teeth cleaned and that turned out to much bigger deal than planned. He had it done Sunday and had 16!!! teeth removed. He’s recovering really well. He was out about and about this morning and even ate breakfast but still sleepy. That’s better than how I would do! He’ll be on pain meds and antibiotics the rest of the week and hopefully all the sutures will heal ok and then we get back to following up on that bloodwork.
So now I need a nap from all that worrying lol. Kevin’s off for Labor Day an, for once, I don’t need to worry about the path of a hurricane ( thinking of all my friends out that way though – stay safe!) and hopefully, Dorian stays off the coast.
How did your reading go in August? What do you have planned to read in September?

You had a fantastic August! I saw that Fonzi was at the vet...how many teeth does he have now???
ReplyDeleteAccording to the diagram they gave me - 21. That's about 1/2 of his teeth left. He still has his canines and most of his premolars but everything else is gone.
DeleteHoly crap! Poor old man fonzi, gotta give him soft foods now.
DeleteThe fluffy boy is a real soldier! I hope he gets better soon! You too of course LOL. I'm sure you lost a few pounds in the process!
ReplyDeleteIt must feel weird not to have to worry about hurricanes anymore...but at least there's something about FL that you won't miss!
Still looking forward to the squirrel stuff 😉. Admit it, you're ONLY trying to create suspense 😜.
He's mellow, which is to be expected, but doing waaaaay better than if I lost 1/2 my teeth lol
DeleteI'm more afraid that it will be a letdown after all the teasing lol
Poor Fonzie! And 16! Are there any left?
ReplyDeleteYes! About 20. Dogs have 42 teeth
DeleteWoo, woo! You definitely had an eventful month! Sorry to hear you didn't like The Right Swipe, though!
ReplyDeleteMe too. I love rom comes and that author so I was surprised.
DeleteI am sad you that Things We Save in a Fire was only ok for you. That book hit me hard. I am glad you liked Like a Love Story. I am a fan of the author. I loved his other YA book too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have had a great month of reading and the library is the BEST!! So good for you. I haven't heard the best things of the Right Swipe. So still debating picking it up.
ReplyDeleteAw, poor Fonzi. I'm glad he's doing okay though after having some teeth removed and I hope that all the blood work turns out to not be anything serious. Yay for a great reading/blogging month in August. I don't know what all I'm reading this month... I do have some review books, so we'll see!

12 books is awesome. My reading month in August was dismal lol. Maybe Sept. will be better...
ReplyDeleteThe Ee series has had me curious at times.
16 teeth! Wow Fonzi had quite the day. Glad he's doing okay though- poor guy lol. Hope you guys had a good Labor Day!
I think you did well with the Dog Days challenge. Oh poor Fonzi! I'm relieved that the lump wasn't cancer-I sort of wanted to ask if there was news on it but didn't want to in case the news was bad y'know? I have sympathy for his dental issues. I've got everything crossed for the bloodwork.
ReplyDeleteI'm HORRIBLE with challenges so I'm happy with the 3 books!
DeleteI get that. I was worried about someone who just found out they were pregnant than a few days later said they were crying - but not why and I was so worried but didn't want to say anything.
I hope Fonzi is ok!
ReplyDeleteHe's doing so much better than I would be in that situation lol
DeleteGood to read you had such a good month reading wise. Not so good to read of poor Fonzi. Glad its nothing more sinister, I'm sure he'll be kept a close watch of.
ReplyDeleteWe still need to follow up on that bloodwork but he's recovering from the dental like a champ!
DeleteI'm glad to hear Fonzi is doing alright after all of that.
ReplyDeleteWay better than I would be doing - that's for sure!
DeleteOh gosh...so glad the lump was nothing...but 16 teeth!! Poor baby!Hope he recovers quickly and that all his bloodwork checks out ok.
ReplyDeleteHis mouth is already looking great after one day. They're way more resilient than people lol
DeleteYour poor pup! It's a good thing dogs have lots of teeth!! Hope his recovery goes smoothly.

I know! even after that he has 20 left.
Deletemy reading was okay. I didn't read much due things of kids going on. I have been reading somewhat. working hard too.
ReplyDeleteYou're a busy girl! lol
DeleteYAY! I'm so glad you read Angelfall! I love that series so much and it doesn't get nearly enough love! And I love all the puppy books!
ReplyDeleteI got sidetracked by Fonzi but I'll be reading books #2&3 this month.
DeletePoor Fonzi. Hope he is doing better. Hayley is still suffering from allergies and we can't find a solution.
ReplyDeleteYikes. I had that problem with one of my shelties in FL.
DeletePoor handsome Fonzi :( I hope he's starting to feel better today. And you have no review books? I wonder what that must feel like, haha.
ReplyDeleteIt feels AMAZING!!
DeleteAwww poor Fonzi, what an ordeal! Hope he is doing okay now though! I am beyond impressed that you have no review books, too. I don't think I have experienced that in quite a few years! Also SO glad you loved Angelfall- it's such a favorite! I thought the rest of the series was a little... less awesome? But not bad or anything, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts! Glad it was such a good reading month, hope this one is too!
ReplyDeleteHer handled it SO well. Way better than I would.
DeleteI'm reading the second book now and so far so good but I just started.
I can't wait to read my copy of Like a Love Story, for sure. :D
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll have a fantastic September! Also, it must feel so good to not have books for review on your shelves! I miss that feeling.
Oh man, was that emotional!! But I loved it.
DeleteIt feels fantastic to read without pressur.
Yay glad to hear you enjoyed Angelfall and are looking forward to the rest of the series. If you thought the first book was trippy wait til you read the rest. Sorry to hear about Fonzi but glad he's doing ok, I wouldn't be doing that good after having that many teeth our either.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading the second book now so we shall see lol
DeleteThank you so much for joining in o the DDOS celebration! I think I only read three dog books, too, but I have to check. 🐾✨
ReplyDeleteI'm glad all that was was a fatty tumor. Thank goodness dogs have a lot of teeth! Poor Fonzi, but at least he won't have to worry about those teeth needing to be cleaned next time. Did he ever get his toothbrush?
He did not! He goes for his recheck Friday and I'm going to ask for it lol
DeleteI'm glad Fonzi is ok! 16 teeth out in one go though... Ouch!
ReplyDelete12 books is a good reading month. I haven't read any of the books but I love the corgi covers! So cute.
I hope Fonzi is recovering well <3 And reading 12 books is so good! I can't wait for your review of Love Story! I am starting it tonight.
