My Monday Musings…

I'm having a bumpy start to the month for some reason. My brain is just a puddle of goo right now. I'm kind of mopey, can't do words and just general blah-ness. Is this a seasonal thing? Is it because of fall? This is my first real fall in a few decades so maybe this is what happens during the swap from summer to fall??

I don't like it! lol

But...there's Starbuck's Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew. AKA: my new favorite drink.

So slow reading so far but here's what's happening on that front!

READ:

Work for It by Talia Hibbert

I loved A Girl Like Her by Hibbert – it was hilarious but this one was ALL THE FEELS. Two men with troubled pasts and a mountain of issues (suicide, mental health/depression, sexual trauma/PTSD) (with a bit of a Beauty and the Beast vibe) learn to love each other and, more importantly, themselves in this steamy, awkward, sweet romance.

READING:

I already read Angelfall and hope to finish the series this week.

UP NEXT:

Alex + Ada, Vol.1

“From JONATHAN LUNA (GIRLS, THE SWORD, ULTRA, Spider-Woman: Origin) and SARAH VAUGHN (Sparkshooter) comes ALEX + ADA, a sci-fi drama set in the near future. The last thing in the world Alex wanted was an X5, the latest in realistic androids. But after Ada is dropped into his life, he discovers she is more than just a robot.”

Several people have rec’d this graphic novel to me and several volumes are on Hoopla so I hope to dive in soon!

How to Be a Good Creature by Sy Montgomery, Rebecca Green (Illustrator)

"National Book Award finalist Sy Montgomery reflects on the personalities and quirks of 13 animals--her friends--who have profoundly affected her in this stunning, poetic, and life-affirming memoir featuring illustrations by Rebecca Green."

The cover is so stunning and something about the blurb spoke to me so I snagged this after an Amazon promo email.

That’s it for this week!  I found that the beginning of the month is tough for me to get rolling but then I’ve been closing strong so we’ll see what happens in September.

RANDOM:

I just had to share this picture of Figgy – he looks so damn sweet (lies – all lies) & I think he would be horrified f he could read and knew he was cuddling with so many dog related things lol

What's up people??? What are we reading, watching, doing this week?

Are you suffering from seasonal brain drain disorder too?

  1. Aww I love that pillow quote!

I have started watching The Good cop on netflix, I enjoy it :)

  2. Ugh, sorry to hear the month is off to a rocky start. Hopefully it's not a seasonal thing (since that would mean recurring). Maybe just a short-lived case of the blahs? Either way, I hope it passes soon. I've never read anything by Talie Hibbert but I hear good things. Work For It sounds like it has a lot going on... hopefully it works well, though.

    1. I think I just need to get through my first PNW winter. Just like I had to learn to get used to FL summers I suppose.

Her books have a lot of humor which I love.

  3. Absolutely adore the pic of Figgy, and the message is fantastic. Pumpkin Cream spice from Starbucks????(lol) You already know how I feel about pumpkin spice, but glad you found one you enjoy. Happy Monday and sending some hugs your way! RO

I wouldn't say I'm a PSL fanatic or anything but I really love this cold brew drink.

  4. I know how you feel! I'm feeling blah and meh and sort of disillusioned with everything right now. I can't seem to pick myself up at the moment from this mopey mood! Gah, what are we like! I suppose it's good that my reading hasn't been affected yet!

    1. I seem to pull myself out of it briefly but then crash again. I hope it's a temporary thing. For you too!

i have to totally disconnect from the news sometimes because that's all too awful with no end in sight.

  5. I love the change into the fall season...I get the blah feeling when it hits winter. It's definitely depressing. Lately I haven't been able to finish a book and that depresses me! Lol. I have been wanting to read Angelfall forever.

    1. I'm pretty sure I'll love fall once it happens. We're kind of in this weird phase where everything is just dead or wilted but not fallish yet. lol

The first book - Angelfall was weird but good!

  6. LoL Figgy knows what the pillow says, he's silently protesting!

I hope you finish the Angelfall series this week, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the ending.

I started reading Work for It (probably 20% in) and I am fascinated by Olu.

    1. LOL He did love my other shelties. Just not Fonzi for some reason. And he's the sweetest and gentlest of them all. But Figgy grew up with the other guys - Fonzi invaded his turf.

Yeah - Olu and Griff were so...gah - I wanted to squish them.

  7. Pumpkin spice flavored stuff is only second to eggnog flavored stuff for me. I enjoyed pumpkin pie creme ice at Rita's last night, and it was amazing!!!! I am pretty sure there was actually pumpkin puree in there. OMG! Figgy is precious. What a great pic.

    1. I haven't had a lot of eggnog flavored things. I guess that's another thing for me to test this winter.

have you tried the new PS cold brew??

      That ice sounds AMAZING.

    1. It was a great book too.

I do like PSL's and pumpkin pie but I'm not obsessed with it - usually. I think I've had the cold brew one every night since it came out though lol

  10. Everyone has been raving about their cold brew. I haven't been into a Starbuck in years but I might need to seek one out soon.

Alex & Ada have been on my radar for a long time now. It's gotten a lot of mixed reviews so I've held off on grabbing a copy. I hope you enjoy it. I can't wait to read your thoughts on it.

    1. I haven't read any reviews for Alex & Ada - just had recommendations for it. It's from the library so if it's not working I can always just return it.

I don't go to SB often anymore but I've been there almost every day for this drink lol

  12. Poor Figgy! LOL. Great pic though.

From what I read on Twitter, you're having an abrupt season transition, so you probably just have to get used to it. In my corner of the world it's still summer - only with milder temps. I hope it stays like this for a while. The only thing about this period I don't like is that the days are shorter - the early dark makes me feel a little sad. Oh, well, at least I'm breathing LOL.

    1. It's odd right now. the days are getting shorter but it still feels like summer - only very dry and things are dying - but not fall like yet. I like fall so I think once it kicks in I'll be better.

  13. I definitely have seasonal brain disorder, lol! I love autumn but I've been struggling the past couple of weeks to stay on top of life! The blog and visits are taking the biggest hit because I'm brain fried.

Fingers crossed it passes quickly so we can enjoy some September! :)

    1. It doesn't really feel like summer or fall here and I think that's what's throwing me. I really need it to pick a season so I can move on though!

  14. I never thought about how people transition when they move from a place with barely any seasonal change to a place with marked seasonal changes. Fall weather usually invigorates me, but here in Upstate NY we don't really get that type of weather until late in September. As an example it's supposed to be 87° here tomorrow. One thing I do notice is right around the time the crickets start chirping at night, the night to me becomes heavy, or that's the best way I can describe it, like it has weight to it, and I don't like it. It makes me a little anxious, on edge. 😛 So I feel your concerns. 🍂

I have been recommended Alex + Ada alot, too, but I don't know if I'll ever get around to it. I'll be looking out for your thoughts on it. 📗

Oh! I NEED How to Be a Good Creature. 😯😯😯 The cover is brilliant. 😍😍😍 Thanks for the heads up! 👍✨

Aww... Figgy, that is one of my favorite IG pictures. 😻😻😻

    1. I lived in upstate NY before FL and it took me a few years to get used to not having seasons. And I wore shorts all winter. By the time we moved I wore full winter gear - hats, mittens, scarf lol

I did use to love fall so I'm kind of excited about that. But the past few weeks have felt like this in between time - it's still summer but everything is dead or dying and bone dry but not fallish. It's just kind of blah and depressing. Pick a season mother earth!! lol

That cover is gorgeous! I downloaded the ebook but if it's good I might buy the hardcover.

  15. I had a stressful summer and felt like I had the blahs but I’m feeling better. Definitely could be the weather and I hope you will adjust! I don’t mind gray days but I guess you might have a lot of them!

    1. I'm glad to hear that. This summer was a rough one but the last few weeks have been especially hard on me for some reason.

I was actually happy with the rain we had the past few days. Oddly enough, it seemed to breath new life into things. But I'm not sure how I'm going to do with 6+ months straight of it lol

I may love it! I don't know. I got used to FL so we'll see.

  16. I am struggling to keep up with my job and the blog and the house. I am hoping to strike a better balance. When I get home I just want to chill, but there is stuff to be done! I am at least still reading every night, it’s what keeps me sane. I hope this is just a temporary set of storms, we should still have lots of nice days ahead in Fall. Fingers crossed.

    1. That's a lot to have on your plate Heidi. Just the reading you need to do to keep up the blog is time consuming. But at least it's soothing.

I actually enjoyed the rain. Things were so dry and dusty where I'm at. It made things green and all the birds came out :-)

  18. Aw, I hope you start feeling better. I love the Fall, not that we tend to get a really long one here. I tend to feel off more in the summer, but yeah, it might be a seasonal thing, especially since you aren't used to having an actual Fall. omg, that photo of Figgy is so cute!! I need to check out the Alex + Ada books. I'm making my way through the graphic novel series The Wicked + The Divine right now.
