Big news!

This isn’t news to most of you who follow me on Twitter or Instagram but I’ve been MIA for a pretty good (exhausting) reason…

Meet Kai and Ripley!

Kai is 6 months old/male – very chill and sweet and also very much like my Fonzi. Ripley is 4 months old/female and named after Ripley from Alien and is….WILD lol

We lost Fonzi several months ago and it’s been horrible without him. In general, and especially with the lock down. Being home in all this quiet was very lonely and depressing. I am not meant to live my life without a dog.

I had tried to foster or look for dogs in need a of a home but the shelters were empty out here.

The woman I got my other shelties (she also does rescue) from was telling me about a litter she had that had parvo (a very serious disease that mostly affects puppies. Ripley was from that litter but never got very sick. One puppy died and two others are still in recovery. They can shed the virus for up to 6 weeks though even if they aren’t sick so Ripley was isolated alone in a pen for over a month. She’s not housebroken or socialized except for knowing one person and is a bit of a hot mess lol

Kai, was not from her litter but didn’t have all his shots at the time, so also had to be isolated for a few weeks until he got the all clear. He’s a bit better than her because he had been going out and meeting people and being exposed to things before this happened. Unfortunately, he’s lost a little ground with socializing and housebreaking because of it.

I, in my infinite wisdom, decided…I’ll take them BOTH because no one wanted to take on the task of super shy/scared puppies. What else do I have to do during a pandemic anyway?? lol

So, we’ve had our hands full this past week. They are awesome dogs with great personalities and I think they will come around over time with some work.

I read a lot of great books in the week before they came but I’ve been too exhausted to post anything but I’ll try to get back on track next week.

    1. I lost Fonzi about 1 week before our lockdown and it was just awful being without him or any dog. I was super lonely and getting insomnia.

    So Karen 😂.

They look so deceptively sweet LOL (joking). I hope they're both healthy by now and will stay that way! You and Kevin have fun 😉.

BTW, I guessed right about Ripley, but who's Kay named from?

    1. It's very Karen of me lol

They are pretty sweet. They occupy each otters time a lot so that is helpful.

I just like it. It's been in a few books and I have a list of names I liked and it just seemed to fit him. (their names were Lance and Maisey before)

    2. Oh, I thought they were their original names. Lance might pass (though I don't particularly like human names for pets), but Maisey??? It's such an old lady's name LOL.

  6. Oh man I was waiting for this post!!! I am so happy for you and that you decided to take on TWO babies that need a little extra TLC. Not many people have the heart for it and I'm so glad to know someone who does. I know they'll catch up on their socializing in no time. Hayley's losing a little ground on socializing since we're keeping to ourselves right now. She's still super friendly but those manners she was learning have gone out the window. She's back to butt poking, licking at inappropriate times, and jumping. On my cats mostly but at least she's safe. I can't wait to see more of your two babies and how they progress. Congratulations again Karen!

    1. She had a home lined up but there's a very small chance that she might have GI issues because of the parvo even though her case was very mild.

I had been looking to foster or adopt an older dog but these two came on my radar. They're young but still need some extra work that made them more difficult to place.

Poor Haley. At least she's able to go on her Starbucks runs again.

  9. I'm in love with them both! I can't wait to see more of them on your insta.

My BF and I have really gone back and forth about adding another fur baby to our family. We worked from home for two months, and that would have been a perfect time to raise a puppy. After a month of going back to work, we are now at home again, so we may get a second chance!

    1. That was our thought. We only wanted one but we're both home until at least September so there's no better time to do this.

  10. Yay for fur babies! I know how awful it is when you lose a dog the silence of a house can be a little overwhelming so losing Fonzi and being stuck in lockdown it must have sucked. Kai and Ripley look adorable if a complete handful. You'll have your work cut out for you but I don't have to tell you it'll be worth it. I know I'll have lots of puppy photos to look forward to now as well.

    1. Yeah, it was awful. At least if we could have went out I could have distracted myself. I would have always gotten another dog but It wouldn't have been so painful.

      TOTAL handful lol

  15. Congratulations! I am so so happy for you, and they are both adorable. I'm sure they will settle in in no time. I know I went from a dog to a cat - but I'd wanted a cat for a long time, and any pet is nice to have around, especially with COVID and self-quarantine. I don't know how I'd do stuck at home all the time without a pet!

    1. I'm glad you found your kitty. I would have loved to foster kittens/cats but... Figment. Maybe one day.

The quarantine without Fonzi was really hard on me. I was very depressed and getting bad insomnia.

  19. You know for sure that I am 100% behind the idea of puppies! And I can also relate to the utter exhaustion that comes with them. My one keeps me quite busy---I can't even imagine two! :-)

  20. They're so gorgeous! I'm so happy for you and even though they're a handful, you know they'll grow into awesome doggies with training, love and attention.
I feel so sad for how they got their start (Ripley mainly). No pup should be isolated in a pen... But I understand they "why" of it. Now, I cross all my bits and hope they soon learn to do their business outside! lol They'll have a good life with you. I'm glad you took them on. :)

  21. Kai and Ripley have found some good owners who are going to look after them well. I hope you enjoy settling in with them ^.^
