Tell Me Something Tuesday is hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings and discusses a wide range of topics from books to blogging.
I missed last weeks question but the answer will the same as this weeks so I’m combining them.
Question: (from May 26th) What are your summer reading plans? & June 2nd: Summer Picks 2020
This is my TBR cart. Every physical, unread book I own is on it. The total is 58 (60 if you count the 2 I’m currently reading).
It’s my goal to get this number to around 20-ish. I don’t want to read everything because I do like having a few books around to choose from.
Macmillan is no longer sending boxes of ARC’s (because of COVID but will probably stick with the digital format even after), I’m not going to any more book conferences any time soon so if I can tackle this pile - that’s it!
I will be the rare blogger without a never-ending TBR pile! I tackled the Kindle a few years ago. I don’t have an exact number but it’s well under 50 and I rarely request more than 2 books at a time on Netgalley.
I would say about 80% of my current reading is done through the library and the Libby/Hoopla apps.
So that's my answer to both questions. My summer reading plans and picks are whatever comes from this cart. lol
It makes sense that publishers aren't sending out all those physical ARCs anymore. Cut down the expenses! LOL.
ReplyDelete"I will be the rare blogger without a never-ending TBR pile!"
You can do it! 💪
If I ever got back to my usual reading pace I'd be done by July lol
DeleteI doubt I'll ever have that big influx of bools again (for many reasons) so even if it takes me a year, it's fine. This is a completely manageable pile.
I wish my TBR was closer to 50 than the four figure number that I keep trying to ignore!!!
ReplyDeleteI had 100's for several years. Moving put a huge dent in it because I just couldn't take that many books with me.
DeleteI've gotten my ebook collection down to about 4 right now. Publishers offered a few books I just couldn't pass on, so that's higher than the 2 I like to keep it at. As far as physical books go, I've got shelves full of books that I still need to read, so that's an unsurmountable battle for now.
ReplyDeleteWe moved last year so that put a quick dent in that pile lol
Deletei just ordered several books but, for the most part, I think I can keep a handle on it. I love the low pressure reading feeling I have now.
That is very impressive. I am trying to read more books I own, and I have been requesting less, but I still think it will be some time before I get through all my books. I also borrow too many books from the library, but I am a new release-ho.
ReplyDeleteI requested a bit more last month (5) but I caught up quickly.
DeleteDeadlines make me panic so I don't allow myself more than 2 library books or Netgalley books.
you read a LOT though so you're still getting through so many. I used to read that much but don't anymore.
I just love pics of TBR carts. All the pretty books... *sigh*. I’ve been focusing on reading from my own shelved for the past 2-3 years and veer away from arcs. I have so many books sitting around that I am genuinely excited to read and it feels great to finally read them. And hooray for Overdrive and Hoopla! I love having those options.
ReplyDeleteThat's where I'm at. I've had some of them since 2011! I tend to stick with the library for newer ones these days.
DeleteI found going to crazy with arc's just leads to a lot of pressure and then books I don't even enjoy all that much but have to talk about.
Tackle that pile!
ReplyDeleteI am!!!
DeleteCool cart! Looks like you have some pretty good stuff in there. I was curious about the Levenseller one a while back. Maybe I should get it...
ReplyDeleteI was looking at that one and I'm not sure it's for me. I was going to pick it up soon so I can rule it in or out lol
DeleteI'd be happy to send it your way after if you want it.
Look at you!! I have so many books that I haven't read - just books I've gotten over the years, not even necessarily review books. I've been going through them though and I'm planning to get rid of a bunch, and I'm also trying to read more from my own shelves which is actually going really well this year!!

WHO AM I LAUREN?? lol
DeleteSome are these from BEA 2011 and the Borders closing sale so that's ridiculous.
We can do this!!
I love your cart! I really need to get one for this purpose! :) I hope you get down to your 20 on there!
ReplyDeleteMichael's has had a few sales this year - they usually don't so I grabbed this one and the fancier craft one.
DeleteI am not surprised that publishers are cutting down on physical ARC's. LOVE your cart, its adorable. I really need to work on the books I have on my kindle I haven't gotten around to. Hope you enjoy these here.
ReplyDeleteI think that was always coming. Physical arc's are expensive to produce.
DeleteYou can do this! You can break down the stereotype of bloggers with huge tbrs and conquer yours. It is good that you're not going to be getting any books for a while as well because that will help :)
ReplyDeleteOr course, I haven't read in a week and bought 3 new book so...FAIL lol
DeleteMost of the book reviews I've been posting were written 3 months ago. I haven't been able to get into any reading lately. I have about 100 books on my Kindle to read and at this point it might be a while before I get to them.
ReplyDeleteYou've had a lot going on. I'm horrible at getting ahead.lol
DeleteThat's a lot of books. I have a list, but I'm already behind. *sighs* oh well.
ReplyDeleteI seem to have highs and lows. I wasn't reading at all - then 15 for May and now nothing lol
DeleteI LOVE your cart. My cart... well, it looks like the rest of my life 😂 I was sad that Macmillan said that, I LOVED getting my box every few months. I get during COVID but I think it's just a money saving thing. Le sigh. Anyway, I am SO impressed that these are all your books TBR! Mine... would take about 400 carts. And yet, I still over-request. You are basically my hero.
ReplyDeleteMe too and I think they're kind of the only ones left who were still doing that but it makes sense for both $$ and safety concerns.
Delete58 is absolutely incredible Karen, you've done so well and it's a massive accomplishment. I remember when you first started reading through your TBR. I really need to organise my cart as well. It's basically a mess of review copies at the moment and need to cull my Goodreads down to those review copies I'm planning on reading, some aren't my thing unfortunately. You'll get through these in no time!
ReplyDeleteI had to cut back to enjoy reading again. I realized I was reading more for hype and reviewing and it was either regroup or give up.
DeleteI am so envious of how you've tackled your TBR! I remember a few years ago when this was up at almost 200 (I'm sure it was 200ish...) And you whittled it down. I keep promising myself I'll tackled the TBR but I never do it, not really. Grrr.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with tackling this pile!
I know! I had that picture of them lined up the whole length of the kitchen with Figgy at the top lol
DeleteYou are an inspiration to book bloggers everywhere, I wish my shelves were as cleared as yours. It's meant to be my quest for 2020 to clear my shelves... and it's not happening. I also love your book trolley, I keep thinking maybe I should get one... then remember if I did all my unread books probably wouldn't fit on it. I wish you all the luck, I believe you can get your unread physical books down to a manageable level, I think that's all any of us want.
ReplyDeleteAt first the cart was just for arc's I wanted to read for the month because there was no way they all fit on there lol I still have shelves of books but they are the keepers and ones I've already read.
DeleteI had seen talk here and there all during last year about publishers doing away with most physical ARCs, with ARCs for bloggers and booktubers being the first to get cut. That's okay with me because my library won't take ARCs, even though both my sister and I told them the authors recommend donating them for the library used book sale, and the "not for resale" means retail sales. I hated trading and/or giving them away because of having to box and take them to the post office. 😛 I put my last few in some Little Free Libraries. 📚
ReplyDeleteI wish I could fit all of my unread books on a single cart! I've been making progress (slowly but surely) and have kept myself from buying more books. I want to read everything I have before acquiring me! Plus, I need the room! ;) Jacob is building me a Little Free Library for my birthday, and I already have several books to put in there. I had been putting them in a cooler out front with a sign that said "FREE BOOKS," but people were taking AND leaving their own, so I was accumulating almost as many as I was giving away. <3
