Tell Me Something Tuesday is hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings and discusses a wide range of topics from books to blogging.
Question: What are some good reading habits you have adopted?
Answer: Good reading habits? What are those? I do not understand what you speak of lol
I don't know that I've ever had good reading habits. Or any reading habits. I just read. I used to read fast so it was never really anything I had to think about. I sat down and read. Boom. Done.
I guess regarding the blog and reading - I keep a list of the order I need to review books in so I do it on time but that's about it.
Since the pandemic my reading has been in a death spiral so if I read at all I'm thrilled.
I guess a few things I've done (if they can be considered habits) is starting an audiobook when I do my morning errands so I at least have one book going.
I've pretty much stopped requesting books so I don't really need habits because I'm reading for myself and there are no time frames involved anymore.
Do you have any reading habits? Good or bad?
It was tricky one this time. But a list is good, I have that too, even though I do not have many review books either
ReplyDeleteWhen you don't have all those obligations you don't really need habits I think.
DeleteI need to get better about saying no to review books - especially ones I wouldn't have bought and am only getting because it sounds good. I just don't read much anymore. I'm like 10 books off my goal for the year. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI've switched to about 80-90% library books and it's like a HUGE weight has lifted off me. There's no obligation as far as dates and reviewing, I can dnf without guilt and it still helps the author.
DeleteThe only thing I can think of is making sure I get at least one diverse title in a month. ๐
ReplyDeleteThat's a good one. I think most of my reading is diverse now. Those are just the books on my radar and recommended to me now.
DeleteI usually read mostly diverse books, but because of reading classics this year I have had to pay attention to what I was reading. ๐
DeleteHa this cracked me up because SAME! I do the same as you- I have a very basic chart of what comes out when and where I got it from (this is only for review books) and then... that's literally it. Otherwise, it's just... good luck hahha.
ReplyDeleteI have a sticky note on my computer with the dates so it's in my face every time I sit at the computer lol But that's it.
DeletePersonally I admire that you have gotten your tbr down and don't seem to 'stress' about reading not enough anymore. You just read and take it at your own pace. Or, that's the way it seems hehe
ReplyDeleteI have about 50-ish books left on my cart but that's a great amount to have IMO. Perfect for mood reading but not overwhelming.
DeleteI never tried to read fast (though I took a speed reading course when I was in a training program years ago). I read for pleasure and I want to enjoy it. I added audiobooks a few years ago, and it was a great decision. Being able to multitask like that is fabulous, and it keeps me out of my head when I am situations that tend to amp up my anxiety.
ReplyDeleteI used to naturally read fast. I could read a book a day - in about 4-6 hours but now it can take me a week or more. At first it stressed me out but I don't even want to force myself to read. It's not fun anymore.
DeleteThe audiobooks have helped so much. Even if I'm also very slow with those, it gives me something to look forward to and doubles my reading lol
Well I never! Good/bad reading habits, who'd have thought it? Surely to be in the habit of reading is good ... not reading anything ever, bad.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this question applies more to review reading - which you kind of need a plan or you get overwhelmed but in general - I agree just read! Have fun!
DeleteI don't know that I really have set reading habits either. LOL I mean, I have certain places that I like to read depending on the weather. And I try and read review books as quick as I can - though that doesn't always happen. Besides that, I just like to read!

I feel like this question applies more to reading on deadlines - which I try to avoid these days lol
DeleteI'm not even sure what would constitute a good reading habit. Like, not destroying a borrowed book? *shrugs* I've quit requesting books almost completely (with very rare exceptions) so, like you, I'm reading solely for myself these days. So who cares what my habits are. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's about where I'm at lol
DeleteI would guess habits matter more when you HAVE to read on a schedule.
My reading has plummeted since the pandemic. Seriously, I'm hardly reading anything, seems like. *shrug* :):)
ReplyDeleteIt's really bad. I thought for sure I would finish every book I owned.
DeleteI just read and don't think about habits or whether they are good or bad!
ReplyDeleteSame!
DeleteMy best reading habit is reading what I want at any given time LOL. Of course, if I request a book, I'm under an obligation to read it for review purposes, but I did choose to, so I'm still my own boss ๐.
ReplyDeleteThat's a GREAT habit! lol I think the second half of your answer is where the habit things comes in. If you have to read on a deadline then habits do come into play more.
DeleteI never really thought about it, but I think that I don’t have any reading habits either LOL. I tend to read when I hear of a book that interests me, but I find that getting through more than five pages a night is a struggle lately.
ReplyDeleteThe struggle is real!!!
DeleteI don't think I have reading habits... I have no rituals around reading, I just pick up a book whenever I'm in the mood and read it.
ReplyDeleteMy reading is so hit and miss at the moment that I'm also grateful for reading anything! lol
This. Is. Me. I'm happy if I read and finish anything!! lol
Deleteso glad I stumbled here! I love anything to do with books. Would you be so kind as to guest blog post for my site? if you’re so inclined, here’s a link to general guidelines: https://wp.me/p6OZAy-1eQ
