Question: What is your blogging routine?

Answer:

At the best of times, I had a very loose blogging routine. I'm a pantser. I think of what I want to say, type it out, post it. The most ahead I've ever been with drafts is about 2 weeks - and that was rare.

I usually carved out a few hours every morning to visit my favorite blogs.

If posting my Tell Me Something TUESDAY on a Wednesday is an indication - these are not the best of times lol

I read exactly 2 books in all of October, none so far for November (although I did just start an audiobook so there's still hope!) so there is zero blogging routine in my life right now. I'm trying really hard to keep up on my visiting though. I haven't felt like being online but I miss you all too much when I don't to stay away.

I'm really curious if it's just fatigue from world events, I'm done blogging or I just need a break. Time will tell I guess.

So if you're looking for blogging routine tips - don't look here. Ha!

*NOTE - to show just how bad I am doing at this blogging thing right now. This question was moved to December and I didn't even notice despite being part of hosting the meme 🤣

I'm leaving this up though because the question for this week is - What books are you looking forward to reading in Winter 2020/21 (December - February)? and I've got nothing.

  1. 😂😂😂 I was scratching my head because I was sure this question was scheduled for later...I had, as a matter of fact, already written the post and scheduled it...but I second-guessed myself for a moment. I think I know why you got confused though - it probably was the question that was moved to December at my request (then again, it happened weeks ago LOL).

You're NOT done blogging. You only need to do it your way (or to take a break). I, the queen of schedules, give you permission 😂.

    1. I had cut and pasted the earlier schedule and didn't recheck before posting. *face palm*

I'm not too worried about it. I'll continue to post when I feel like it. The only difference this time vs other burn outs is that I have zero obligations right now. no arc's so there's nothing to keep me at it lol

But I'm me and will all of a sudden type up 3 weeks worth of drafts lol

  2. You're killing me. I sort of like the routine since everything else is such a mess, you know? The memes help me remember the day of the week.

    1. I get that. Especially right now.

I used to do a lot of memes and I swear I would never know what day it is without them lol

  3. Other than my Tell Me Tuesdays posting on Tuesdays, and usually getting written on Tuesdays, ha ha, I'm a pantser, too! 😆

    1. I just can't drum up any enthusiasm right now so *shrugs*

Yay to my fellow pantser! I feel like a unicorn in a world of planners lol

  4. `Alright this post is hilarious and I think we all handle blogging differently. This year I have been such a failure at blogging much around the mess of 2020 LOL But I am getting back on my game again. I always say do what you can do and be happy.

  5. I'm a pantser too. Planning? what's that??? Although like Sam said above the memes kinda keep me grounded in what day it is lol. But I hardly post reviews anymore. Although I do have a few I want to get to so maybe...

    1. I used to do more memes and I wish I could find more conversational ones like this because the lists type ones feel like pressure to me. And add in I rarely remember books so I suck at making lists lol

    2. Yeah I've actually thought about doing this one- TNST- since Top Ten is usually just a list!

  6. I don't have much of a routine now. If Blogger is mostly working I try to do as many posts as I can and then publish them on the days that Blogger is going a bit crazy so I don't have to deal with it!

    1. I still haven't had any problems with the new blogger. But I'm not blogging much so maybe that's why lol

  7. LOL I kind of love that you did the wrong question. It happens. I haven't been reading a ton either, and it kind of bums me out. I want to get lost in stories more! Ah well, times are definitely weird. I really need to get better at scheduling ahead. I do well, and then I catch up to all those posts and I'm doing it last minute again. hah

  8. This post reminds me that we're all human, but more importantly we can laugh at ourselves and with each other. That's the fun I love about meeting and interacting with other bloggers. I wish I could say I had a process, but like you, I think of something, type it up and then post it too(lol) My typing seems to be taking longer and longer though these days. So it may take me about 3 days to actually post something. I'm reading more, but I'm also watching television way too much!(lol) Be well and stay safe! Hugs, RO

    1. I've been playing silly game son my phone and watching more tv too.

I think we're all in such a weird mental space right now that you have to do whatever works.

      {{hugs}} back Ro!

  9. OH Karen! Love this post so much! You are doing so many other wonderful things right now, so don't fret about reading and blogging. *HUGS*

  10. I feel this. I've been struggling all year to get in a routine and stay in a routine and it is simply impossible. I'd like to visit everyone regularly and blog regularly and sometimes I do but mostly I don't. I say do what the mood calls for and what makes you happy.

    1. I agree. This has just been such an overwhelming year on so many levels. I don't want to feel obligated to anything right now and I'm just rolling with it.

  11. I am also a pantser most of the time but after my long blogging break (like the third of 2020) I decided it was time to get some kind of routine. I have a calendar where I put the posts I intend to publish, I normally plan about 2 weeks ahead so then I have structure with what posts I’m writing all week. It doesn’t always work out but the intention is there and I’m finding it way less stressful and I’m not writing quite as many posts last minute. I am worse about the routine of blog hopping and replying to comments, it’s hard to create a routine for them, but as I’m working from home and get an hours lunch I do have change to visit blogs now. I hate when you’re not reading, it’s harder to motivate yourself to stick with a blog routine. I feared my slump was a sign I was done with blogging so I know how you feel. I hope you figure it out.

    1. I've been through it before and came back strong so we'll see. I think I might be done with book blogging though. Or maybe not dedicated book blogging. I have zero urge to read on schedules anymore or have to review everything.

It will be something very laid back I think.

  12. Haha, well I was wrong just a few weeks ago, and with such a good topic too.

But oh no, you really do need your book groove back

  13. Girlfriend take that break! I've been slowing down as well, I wonder if it's a natural progression since the year is winding down (we hope).

    Keep me updated on Grown!

  14. I usually don't plan ahead much either, other than marking the due date of the review books I grab, lol. I've consciously stepped away from watching the news. My husband will have it on when I get home from work and I try not to watch. It drains me, soul-sucking, and there's really nothing I can do about any of it, so I've mentally changed the channel. Instead I've been binging on Forensic Files. Random, right? I've been trying to get back to my reading, too. I'm enjoying one on my Winter Reading list right now: Archangel's Sun by Nalini Singh. I think I might read In a Holidaze next for some laughs. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

Thanks for being a part of hosting TMST. I'll try to take part more often!

    1. I mark when review books are due but I'm barely taking on any so I hardly have anything to keep me going and on tract lol

I think we're all completely emotionally drained at this point. I feel that way about going online now - I never watched much news. Watch whatever distracts you I say!

  15. A strange old year and not just for the obvious reasons, so many bloggers (and I include myself in this) are finding themselves in something of a slump, any routines they may have had have become sporadic or even non existent.

    1. Yeah - I think we're all kind of overwhelmed and drained at this point. I just feel better when I'm away and doing something other than blogging right now. I did still like staying in touch with everyone though. It helps.

  16. I skipped this week because we're not a thanksgiving kind of nation and it's been a pretty terrible year sadly so imagine my surprise to find this post 😂 I don't have a posting routine but do have a somewhat blogging routine, especially when it comes to commenting. I reply to blog comments on my own blog whenever possible but usually return comments left on my previous post after I post a new post. That makes very little sense 😂 I read lots of blogs on my phone but find commenting systems far too fiddly on the smaller screen.

    1. I absolutely cannot answer or comment on my phone. It would sound like gobbly goop lol

I'm better at commenting though, I almost always carve out a little time to visit, than I am at putting time into my own blog.

      And yeah...this year sucked. SUCKED.

  17. I am cracking up, I relate to this so much! I am like "what is this 'routine' you speak of?" 😂 I actually think scheduling 2 weeks ahead is impressive- the most I have ever done is a day or two, and I pat myself on the back over that haha. I too am a pantser, I imagine I always will be. And I am sorry you're struggling with reading and blogging- and I also feel you with not knowing what the reason for the struggle is! It could be SO many things! But I do hope it turns around for you soon- or that you're cool with it not!

I'm surprised (but happy) to hear you're a pantser. You have pretty elaborate posts. I'm impressed!

    1. I tried blogging ahead (Not that I'm great at it anyway) but I don't like it. I feel too distanced from the posts by the time that they go up.

I really do wish I was more of a planner with it though. That's AMAZING getting that far ahead.

  19. LOL if my visiting your post from November 18th on December 1st is any indication, I'm not the person to look at for blogging routines either :) I'm trying to find my groove - Thanksgiving break helped me get ahead a bit so fingers crossed. Good luck getting back into your groove!

  20. Don't worry, I don't have a blogging routine in the slightest either! I just go on when I have the time and when I feel like it. I don't think I'll ever be done blogging but I am done forcing myself to blog when I am not in the mood or just don't feel like it... and I have been better off since deciding to do that for myself too. I don't think I can ever completely let go because I'd miss you all too

    ReplyDelete

    1. I have apparently stopped forcing myself too - since it's been weeks since I've been blogging lol

  21. I have no blogging routine. I've tried to plan ahead and write ahead and inevitably, something happens and I have no time to blog ahead. Right now with COVID and have remote workers in the house off an on I'm being distracted and removed from my usual blogging spot. Basically, they're getting on my last nerve lol.

  22. Meh, what's a routine?! I don't remember the last time I was in anything close to resembling one... Let's just call it like it is - this year broke us. We'll get back into some kind of normal again at some point and until then? We potter around the blogosphere when we have time, energy or inclination. :)

  23. We're all just doing our best this year! I've been keeping to a schedule this year, but I have no plans for January, who even knows what'll happen. I feel like you, I'm sort of in a "time will tell" place.

    1. I think we should all give ourselves a pat on the back for hanging in there at all during 2020. Even if it was sporadic - at best. It was a rough one!
