Question: What do you do for fun when you aren’t blogging?
Answer: This is a super timely question! Lately, I’ve been doing everything EXCEPT blogging lol
If it weren’t for the TMST weekly prompt, I probably wouldn’t be posting at all! I’m so unmotivated with reading/blogging so here’s what I’ve been doing (love to do) instead…
Gardening is one true love hobby. More than reading. I had HUGE butterfly gardens in FL and I’m having to start over from scratch out here in WA. Our yard in our new house was literally a green strip of grass.
On the plus side – you can grow almost any plant out here but on the flip side – the ground is hard clay and rocky so it will take me years to improve and it’s a bitch to work with. Oddly, there are very few plant nurseries out here so I’ve turned to catalogs. But I’ll work around it and hopefully get some wildlife visiting my yard next year.
This winter will be for improving the soil.
Cooking is one of those hobbies that I get all enthused about but have varied success and get bored with (meaning lazy/flustered) after a while. I think living in WA and the cooler weather motivates me though.
I just bought a bread machine and have been testing out recipes. So far I’ve made white bread, dough for rolls that I finished off in the oven and pumpkin spice bread.
I also made the most delicious pumpkin waffles from this Smitten Kitchen recipe last weekend. I made pumpkin cheesecake in the Instant Pot (recipe from Dessert for Two) yesterday but that has to sit overnight so the verdict is out until we give it a try tonight.
Ripley & Kai! Having pets is what keeps me moving forward. I neeeeed them in my life. I love Figgy, of course, but he’s just as ornery as me lol and would love if I hid the day away. After losing Fonzi, life was so empty. Ripley & Kai get me up and out – both physically and mentally.
They have to exercise so I go hiking and get outside in ways I wouldn’t on my own. They continually push me out of my comfort zone and having to feed, take them out and train them keeps me out of my head when things are bleak.
I’m definitely the kind of person that needs animals in my life.
I have a few more hobbies I've picked up recently but I'll save those for next weeks TMST question: November 10th Have you found any new interests or hobbies during the COVID lockdown/stay at home orders?
What about you? What are your interests outside of blogging?
*P.S. Could you let me know if the font looks super tiny to you. I can't tell. It says normal size in draft and preview but then looks smaller on my computer. I don't want everyone having to strain their eyes.
I wish I liked gardening because I love the idea of having a beautiful landscape but I do NOT like dirt and bugs. I think I'm traumatized from when my mom had me help her as a child and I touched a worm.
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm not one of those near, pretty landscape type gardner's though. I just throw things in and see what lives lol
DeleteI should not be allowed to landscape front yards haha
Gardering, ack, come here and fix a garden for us! Pleeeeease :D
ReplyDeleteI'm messy though lol I'm all about attracting butterflies over looks.
DeleteGardening sounds good though not for me as I have no clue on that. Those food photos looks great. I wish I can cook that well. Ripley & Kai are super cute. I guess maybe I should get a pet so I wouldn't be lazy and not exercise.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week.
The bread machine does it all! Just dump it on and hit the button lol
DeleteI'm a lazy gardner but I love it.
Like Amber, I wish I cared for gardening because I always admire those yards in my neighborhood with beautiful landscaping and flowers and greenery. But the fact is that I have zero interest in doing it myself. lol I am not an outdoors kind of girl - at all. :) I go through phases with cooking. Sometimes I enjoy it and sometimes I just can't be bothered and I depend on convenience foods.
ReplyDeleteI'm a messy, backyard gardener lol I'm not a "landscaper" where it's all neat and pretty.
DeleteYour pups are a super fun hobby. Love seeing all their adventures.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly keep me busy!
DeleteI've kinda slacked off on blogging too. I mean I still post but I have a more who cares attitude lol if I don't get around to doing a particular post or something. So I get what you mean.
ReplyDeleteA butterfly garden sounds awesome! I imagine in FL with the warmer temps you could have some amazing gardens like that!
Pumpkin spice breads mmm sounds yummy ha!
FL is nice because it's year round and I had a lot of native plants which is great for a lazy gardner. I just planted and walked away lol
DeleteI love that you love gardening, I enjoy seeing the photos. I am too lazy to garden or bake. I am the kind of person that gets something done and then that is it... no more working on the garden. Minimal efforts.
ReplyDeleteI always stick with native plants. It's super low maintenence that way. I'm very lazy about it. I'm also sort of messy about it - I don't do that neat landscape sort of gardening lol
DeleteAnd most of my cooking is the instant pot or bread machine.
I love playing games. :) Right now I am obsessed with Prison Architect.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've heard of that one!
DeleteIf you are into simulation/strategy/building games, you might want to try. :) After 30 hours, you solve the game.
DeleteHaving known you for 8 years now, I know EVERYTHING about your hobbies LOL. It sounds like gardening is the only thing you never get tired of, even when it means unrelenting work and if the results are never immediate. Even if I had all the time in the world, I could never do that...you probably are more patient than you give yourself credit for LOL.
ReplyDeleteI read and I write and I write and I read. And I watch TV series, but usually only at lunch and dinner. If I have to stay in front of the telly without doing anything else I get nervous...
I think when people imagine me gardening they see me planning out a flower bed and carefully tending to flowers and...um no lol
DeleteI have big messy beds. I just throw things in and if they live - great! If not - bye bye lol I only prune when I have to. I like the nature it draws in more than the actual act of gardening.
I mostly stuck with all native plants in FL because they require little care but they aren't as into that out here so we'll see how it goes.
I can never get over how cute your furry friends are! For fun, I guess reading, news scrapbooks, lounging around watching American Ninja Warrior and other series and films...not very exciting but it suits me!
ReplyDeleteThank you :-) They do make me smile.
DeleteI don't seek out Ninja Warrior but if it's on I get hooked lol
Font size looks fine!
ReplyDeleteRipley and Kai are awesomely adorable. I'm glad they're helping you so much. I'm absolutely lost without my cats... More specifically my fluffy lovely cat (and previous fluffs). Devil cat - not so much. She's not really good for emotional support (and happiness seems to offend her) but she certainly likes to keep us distracted and on our toes!
Lets see, hobbies... I cross stitch. I play computer games. I bake and cook. I walk a lot (but would like to walk more). I also like colouring. :)
Reading a cooking for me.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you have Ripley & Kai, now. 🤗
