I'm Reading and Life Update...

We're in the middle of a heatwave out here in the PNW and we got as high as 113 yesterday. Today is supposed to be the last day and we cool down to a chilly 93 on Tuesday lol I'll take it though!

I'm SO lucky that we have a/c at my place. The house was wired for it and we debated the cost but there was a sale in the units so we did it last last year. That thing has totally earned it's money back and has been cranking almost non stop for 3 days. I'm kind of afraid of my electric bill but it's worth it.

This area is just not made for this heat. Especially for an extended period of time. It's usually in the 70's right now and upper 80's in August. Most restaurants and some public transportation have shut down.

Thankfully, I've only been out of FL for 2 years so I think I'm a little better at handling it than most.

I thought we would watch a lot of movies and read but honestly I napped a lot and was a total slug lol

We did start Loki on Disney+ and we tried watching Birds of Prey but that was just too awful to continue.

All our COVID restrictions lift on Wednesday and I have mixed feelings. Of course, YAY!, but also, my county has one of the lowest vaccination and above normal case rates so I guess we'll have to see how this goes.

I'm reading The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood ~ Goodreads and it's so freaking adorable!! I've read a few nerdy girl romances lately and regretted that I requested this one long ago and now had to read it for review but it's the best of the bunch!

STEM, awkward Ph.D. candidate, Olive, starts a fake relationship with a grumpy professor and they are just the cutest. Great banter, smooshy sweet moments, great friend group. I can't say enough.

Of course, I'm only 50% in and it could all go south 😂 but I love it so far. It's on Netgalley right now and the release date is September 14th.

How is your week looking? Any plans, book or tv/movie rec's?

  1. I know it can get hot in FL, but 113! Wow! Glad you are safe and cool. Yeah for the Love Hypothesis! If I still wasn't trying to catch up from all those June ARCs, I would be cracking that one open, as I just finished a lackluster audiobook, DNFed a book, and my current books is just ok.

    1. Every day is hot in FL (usually 90's) but they are ready for it. Everything has a/c, fans, misters.

I am forever grateful that we got our a/c. In addition to the heat, we (and a lot of houses) have a full wall of windows to help brighten things up during the dark winters. But in this weather it's like being under a magnifying glass.

I hope you can read TLH at some point. It's just adorable.

  2. How is Loki?

    Your banner does look blurry...

And ugh the heat, when we built a new house I said that we needed to install the cooling effect in our heating system. That is the way the world goes :/

    1. I don't love it yet but I'm not the best judge with that kind of thing. I don't really love the whole super hero/ Avenger's thing.
I can't fix the header and it's so frustrating!!! It's the new blogger. It optimizes the photo for mobile and just stretches it for the computer. I've tried all kinds of fixes and so far nothing. Waaaaaa

  3. Ohmygod that is WAY too hot. I can’t tolerate it, plus my medication makes me overheat faster 😬 We had a single day heat warning in effect too, potential of going over 104F. Glad that you do have an AC though, that’s the best thing ever, specially in this heat! (The one we have is a heat pump, so doubles as heater too & save money on electric bill)

Ohh ive been wanting to read that one too! Happy reading xx

    2. ahaha fair!
Though my two LOVES just laying down in the sun... problem being they are black dogs 🙃 so they attracts the sun & we need to stop them in fear they'd get a heat stroke

  4. As a 6-year resident of Seattle, I cannot believe how hot it is in the PNW now. We are in a heat wave (our third of the year) here in northern New England - but only in the mid-to-upper 90s here!

I have that book on my Kindle for review. It looks so adorkable.

    1. *only* It's wild when 90's seem cool but that's how I feel today too now that we finally dipped below the 100's.

It's SO cute!!! I finished last night.

  5. Wow! That's some crazy heat, and I agree - thank goodness for air conditioners! I just finished up Loki too, and enjoyed it, but I'm really looking forward to Black Widow! Still reading mostly thrillers mixed in with some cookbooks, bu I still keep going to the library.(lol) Hugs, RO

    1. I'm dreading my electric bill but I feel very lucky to have air conditioning when so many don't.

  6. I heard about your heat wave! Can also be felt in British Columbia. We're in a mild Summer weather spell, so yay for us. Some restrictions have been lifted but not completely. Trying to ease our way into it.

I hope your having the best week!

    1. Everything lifts tomorrow so we'll see what happens after. Strange times we live in right?

  7. I saw that there were streets that were cracking under the heat! We've had steady thunderstorms and humidity all weak. Climate change sucks.

I've got Love Hypothesis and can't wait to read it, but I'll probs wait until the audiobook is available.

    1. We're just not made for sustained heat out here. Thankfully, today is MUCH better even though it's still way above normal.

      TLH was so freaking cute.

  8. Our new Covid cases started spiking again with around 800 new cases a day some days. I have a bad feeling things are going to get bad again.

It's been that hot here too. Thankfully only 91 today.

    1. WHAAA!!! That's very high.

I'm nervous too because my area has very low vaccination rates and they're just going to open up all the way tomorrow.

It's bad when we think "only" 91 is nice lol

  9. Our restrictions lifted a couple of weeks ago and it went from 98% of people wearing masks to 98% not wearing masks in just a few days. We are only 53% fully vaccinated in my county so hmmm... Also, 2-12 year olds are still supposed to be wearing masks and I've seen zero kids with masks on. 😒 We still have 27 active cases, 5 hospitalized, and there was a Covid-19 death last week in Broome County. Then theres the whole Delta strain thing. My son and his friends are still masking in public even though they are fully vaccinated. I'm just going to continue to stay home for a while. 😛

Thank goodness you have AC! It's pretty humid there, isn't it? It's actually hotter out today than it was yesterday, here, but it feels cooler because the humidity was around 79% yesterday. It's at 56% today so it doesn't feel as bad. 🌡

    1. I get that everyone wants to get back to normal but I just don't see why it's so hard to wear a mask with all these variants going around.

      Easy,EASY with a huge payoff.

  10. I've heard about that heat wave out there- that's crazy! Yeah thank God for AC, right? lol I wouldn't make it through that heat.

I have to start Loki yet and Birds of Prey- hmmm maybe a good Movies That suck candidate huh?

I'm watching Black summer S2- what a TRIP.

I think they're lifting restritions too soon, with the variants. I guess we'll see...

  11. You definitely made the right decision to install AC! My husband and I were talking about that. I told him I would have to have AC just in case. We live in Kansas, so it's a necessity!

  12. "Most restaurants and some public transportation have shut down."
Yikes. That says a lot about the usual state of things there.

"All our COVID restrictions lift on Wednesday and I have mixed feelings. Of course, YAY!, but also, my county has one of the lowest vaccination and above normal case rates so I guess we'll have to see how this goes."
We can go out without masks now (since last Monday), but they're still required indoors. It doesn't seem safe to lift restrictions in a state with one of the lowest vaccination numbers...

    1. We've been able to go without them outdoors for a few months now but still had to wear them indoors until today. Although if you were vaccinated it was ok to take them off. But most places kept the mandate anyway.

i wen tout this morning and about 50%, including myself, still wore them indoors.

My Instagram feed is going wild in the comments at places who are still going to require it lol People REALLY hate wearing masks but it seems so simple to me.

  13. I've been seeing reports of the extreme heat out there on the news and it's just mind-boggling how how it is. Crazy that restaurants are even closing down. The Love Hypothesis sounds super cute. Hope it continues to be a winner!

    1. It's not at all like FL. We have overhead heaters outside instead of fans plus there are so many food carts and they just can't be open in this. Even when they have a/c's they aren't big enough or meant to run that long. But it's OVER!!! So yay!

I finished TLH and I stand by the adorableness lol

  14. The heatwave sounds terrible. I can't even imagine not having AC in that kind of heat. It's a good thing you did get the AC. And at least the book you're meeting is good!

    1. You usually don't need a/c around here. And even though a lot of newer houses have it we don't get the bigger size unit.

My house has the same size one I used in FL for almost double the space. That poor think was cranking non stop for 3 days lol

On the other hand, I'm used to the heat and knew how to prepare (close all the blinds/shades, freeze water) and could handle it better than some. And no FL humidity! It was a dry heat lol
