Question: What are your favorite posts to read?
Answer: I really love personality in blogs over actual content. Meaning - it doesn't have to be anything I actually read (in the case of reviews) or do but is still fun or informative to read anyway.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of blogs I love, but just an example of what and who I enjoy to read.
Book Haven - I love the variety over at Greg's blog. He covers movies, music, books and even original fiction. One of my favorite posts of Greg's is Movies that Suck where he breaks down movies that...well suck lol
Mostly, I love how spontaneous his posts feel and that you can visit and could find almost any topic.
A Book a Week - What Ethan lacks in quantity he make sup for in quality. He reads widely and writes incredibly thorough and thoughtful reviews. I rarely read the same genres but his reviews have gotten me to pick up several books I wouldn't have otherwise - Me by Elton John and House Plant by Jeremy Ray.
My Pixie Blog - Charlotte's is the only "lifestyle" blog I follow but she's an wonderful person whose authenticity shines through whether it's sharing her challenges, joys or just a goofy dog picture or yummy meal.
We Live and Breathe Books - Sam is a reading/reviewing machine but it's her Sundays With Sam posts that bring a smile to my face. My favorite is her Animal Crossing photos where she *meets up* with her daughter. This brought me such joy during the pandemic seeing these adorable little characters out having fun lol.
Offbeat YA - Roberta is such a champion of small and indie press authors. She takes everything about blogging seriously and it shows in her thoughtful (& punny) reviews.
We don't have much in common - reading wise but I enjoy both Roberta (we're both *ahem* older bloggers so we share that lol) and her quirky blog!
That's just a sampling of the type of posts I like to read that aren't your typical book reviews. Basically, I love any blog/posts that have a unique voice and if I follow or comment regularly on your blog then you have the favorite posts I like to read!
What are your favorite posts you like to read?
I agree! I love seeing unique personalities come out in blog posts. Makes it fun!
ReplyDeleteEspecially as I read less, or not what most people are reading. I like the reviews but it's more about how they say it.
DeleteTotally agree, Karen. Regardless of what kind of post it is, I like seeing the blogger's personality included. Getting a bit of the blogger behind the blog is my favorite part of blog hopping.
ReplyDeleteI think that's why conversational posts seem to do better. You feel like you're meeting up with a friend.
Delete*crying* Can't believe you mentioned me. *sniff, sniff* Greg's Movies that Suck is a hilarious feature. I almost never have seen the films, but it's fun to read. Ditto with Ethan. Every once in a while he will review a book I have read, but his reviews are really well written. Roberta writes some of the most through reviews I have ever read. I am all emotion, and she actually has more analysis.
ReplyDeleteI just adored all the little celebrations and island hopping you did during COVID!
DeleteI love when everyone bring their own unique spin on reviewing. If I wanted *professional* reviews, I'd just look at the NYT or PW lol
I love variety in blogs, for sure. I like seeing how the other people live but also what they're into reading wise. Thanks for the blogger suggestions!
ReplyDeleteI think knowing more about a bloggers personality helps the reviews as well. You get a better idea of what will work for you or not - even though the posts are fun to read either way.
DeleteI'm still in it for the reviews, but I agree, I like when the person's essence is in the review. I love when people just talk off the wall about the books, probably because I can't do that.
ReplyDeletelol I really love feely feelings reviews...just blurt it all out there whatever your style is. Even more formal ones can still have that mark of the reviewer.
DeleteI have such weird reading tastes right now, so while I get ideas if what I want to add to read, they aren't quite as important to me now.
I'm the same way- I read blogs that are about stuff I never read haha, but if I like the blogger or their personality or they're just fun I'll follow. And thank you for the shout out! I was reading that and then I saw my blog and I was like- oh wow! :)
ReplyDeleteI will be checking out all these blogs now! And I love Sam's sunday Posts as well (and her content generally), and Roberta is awesome. I love visiting her blog and seeing what's up.
Ha! Who is this Greg person? he sounds great...oh it's me! lol
Delete"Roberta is awesome"
Delete😭 🤗
I love Greg's original fiction! Let's Go Fund his first book LOL.
Agree!
DeleteI love that you mentioned various blogs and posts they do. Charlotte is amazing!! I was so happy to see her listed. I'm a big fan of personality in posts too.

Charlotte's is the only lifestyle blog I follow but I love her.
DeleteYay! I agree - sometimes the personality of the blogger and what's going on in their lives is what's the most fun, and like you, I totally adore Gorgeous Greg. I make a resolution each year to visit new blogs, and have met lots of interesting people. As usual, another great post! Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteI'm always trying to add new ones in for variety. And we've lost so many over the years too.
DeleteForgot to mention Ethan too, who I also visit on Instagram. He and I have some similar tastes in reading too. Going over to check out Charlotte and thanks for the rec. Hugs again, RO
ReplyDeleteI follow him on IG too - he takes great book pictures.
DeleteI think blogs that have a specific personality are so great, as they really put out some unique content. I love Greg's blog as well, as well as Cee @ https://www.dorareads.co.uk/ Her content is unique because she does cool features like Nerd Church every Sunday. It's like church, but for nerds!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds fun! Thanks for the rec & link :-)
DeleteI have to take a look at the ones I do not know :D
ReplyDeleteI think you know most of them. Maybe not Charlotte.
DeleteHonestly, even though I'm a book blogger, I love posts like The Sunday Post and monthly life updates where people tall about what's going on in there lives. 😁
ReplyDeleteI'm the same lol
Delete"(we're both *ahem* older bloggers so we share that lol)"
ReplyDeleteBut...but...you outed me! 😲 😂
That was SO sweet. If I'm a champion of indie books, you're MY champion 💛.
I gave Ethan a follow.
:-)
DeleteI don't think you read what he does but his reviews are excellent and thoughtful.
Embrace our older blogger status lol
You just found me some new blogs to check out!
ReplyDeleteoh good! I thought you already knew most of them.
DeleteAnd I really should have added yours for your baby Aria updates!!! My favorite!!
Yep! The person behind the blog is the draw for me too. :)
ReplyDeleteStraight up content without a personality behind them bore me.
DeleteOh I agree completely! It is definitely more important that you are enjoying the blogger more than the content (especially since I feel like if the blogger's personality is shining through, the content cannot be dull, since there is personality behind it!)
ReplyDeleteI read so many blogs that don't have anything to do with what I
Deletem interested in lol But I love the blogger and it's fun for me anyway.
