In Bloom...

As I've said in many posts before, I'm not reading much so I feel like I don't have a lot to say on that front.

I am doing a lot of other things that I guess I'm going to start sharing in an effort to at least blog more. Sorry if it's boring to you - enjoy if you like a little variety in your life! 😛

While I love gardening outdoors, I'm horrible at indoor plants. I added a humidifier to the room my plants are in this past winter and that helped enormously but...I still lost about 50% of the plants.

My poor little Pathos is 3 years old and living in limbo land - not yet dead but not thriving either lol

wilted pathos in tan clay pot with a weaved basket design. There is a plant stake made of beige leather that says I tried

BUT!!! I'm so excited that I had success with an orchid I bought at Lowe's on clearance for .50 last year. It looked dead and had already bloomed so I had no idea what type or color it was but last month I started seeing buds and I HAVE BLOOMS! Two so far and one more to go.

two white orchid blooms and one bud to the left. The plant is being lit with filtered light from a window

Look how beautiful the center (called a column) is.

Do you have any indoor plants or have a green/brown thumb? I feel triumphant with this bloom - now I just have to salvage the other plants lol

  1. That first picture had me cackling - "I tried". That last pictures is amazing. Good luck nurturing your green thumb

    1. I should have showed my Jade plant. They are almost impossible to kill. I've had mine for 2 years - never grew really and last week it just keeled over and died lol

  2. I love that "I tried" sign! Great job on the orchids. Mine never bloomed. I do not have a green thumb at all.

    1. They only bloom once a year. The rest of the time they look dead so I wasn't sure if I killed it or not lol My MIL said her secret is to give hers 3 ice cubes a week and not fertilize - so that's what I did.
Mos tof my indoor plants die though.

    1. I bought Kevin a spider and jade plant for his office. Both are humongous - I kept half of each one - both died for me lol

I try to get clearance or sale plants so, if they die, it doesn't hurt so much lol

    1. I seem to be 50/50 when it comes to indoor plants.

  6. I have a large pathos that sat over our fireplace. It has made multiple moves with us, so probably 8 or 9 years old. We move it from the mantle for Christmas, and it didn't like that this year. Nearly all the leaves fell off, and we cut it back massively. I put it outside with my other potted plants, added some coffee grounds, and it is finally starting to produce some new growth. They are pretty resilient plants.

    1. I had my plants on my mantle too but they just don't thrive there so I moved everything to a back room where I can control temperature and humidity better. My poor pathos and philodendron just... exist lol So many others have died though so.... I'm trying the coffee ground tip though!

    1. I've switched to all fake in my living room lol They few that have survived are in a back room with a humidifier and I'm having better (although not 100%) success.

  9. I just started a book for the first time in a week, so I'm gonna run out of book reviews and need other stuff to talk about too lol. Yay orchids! The column is so pretty! (And I learned a word!) I truly know nothing about keeping plants alive.

    1. I'm pretty good at outdoor plants - like 8/20 success. Indoor is still close to 80/20 in favor of death lol

  10. I have zero ability to keep a plant alive - indoors or outdoors. The husband is a plant whisperer though. The veggie garden is ever increasing in size and we have 5 orchid plants (and one Aloe plant.) 3 of our orchids were from the vet - one for each of the cats we've lost - one was given as a wedding gift and the final one was an IKEA rescue that was on sale and half dead. There's always at least one in bloom but usually it's a couple of them. Three are white, one is pink and the IKEA rescue is blue!

    1. Ooh pretty! I'm not great with indoor plants of veggies but pretty good with regular garden flowers.

  11. You did good because I am good with houseplants and have never had success with orchids! 😯

    1. I had several in FL that died so I'm excited. My MIL told me to give them 3 ice cubes per week for water and that's it, so I that's what I did and it worked.
