Question: Which books are you looking forward to reading this spring?
Answer: I have no idea what (or if) I'll be reading in spring but all of these books are recent purchases from my local bookstores & one review book - that I hope to read in my lifetime lol.
North Woods by Daniel Mason - Goodreads Bargain cart 50% off buy
"A sweeping novel about a single house in the woods of New England, told through the lives of those who inhabit it across the centuries"
Summer in the City of Roses by Michelle Ruiz Keil Goodreads I found this one at the airport section of local authors. The story is based in Portland, Oregon (near me)
"Inspired by the Greek myth of Iphigenia and the Grimm fairy tale “Brother and Sister,” Michelle Ruiz Keil’s second novel follows two siblings torn apart and struggling to find each other in early ’90s Portland."
Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle - Goodreads I've heard so much about Chuck Tingle but I thought they wrote silly, parody type books, until I saw this one. I've heard that it's sci-fi/horror but I guess I'll see.
"From Chuck Tingle, author of the USA Today bestselling Camp Damascus, comes a new heart-pounding story about what it takes to succeed in a world that wants you dead."
Cinderella and the Beast (Princess Swap #1) by Kim Bussing - Goodreads I haven't accepted a book for review for over a year now but this looked light, fun and maybe just what my reader brain needs at the moment.
"What would happen if Cinderella found herself in the beast's castle, and Beauty woke up in some evil stepmother's home? Fairy tales meet Freaky Friday in this series, where there’s a magical mix-up for every princess!"
Somewhere Beyond the Sea (Cerulean Chronicles #2) by T.J. Klune - Goodreads I love this series. I read the first on audio and I think I'll do the same with this but the book is gorgeous with it's sprayed edges so I bought it anyway.
"Somewhere Beyond the Sea is the hugely anticipated sequel to TJ Klune’s The House in the Cerulean Sea, one of the best-loved and best-selling fantasy novels of the past decade."
This delicious Death by Kayla Cottingham - Goodreads Another bargain cart buy. Sounds gory but funny.
"Four best friends, one music festival, and a cooler filled with human organs: this summer is about to get gory."
The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates - Goodreads Welp, you can't say this list isn't eclectic! A little non-fiction thrown in for good measure.
"Ta-Nehisi Coates originally set off to write a book about writing, in the tradition of Orwell’s classic Politics and the English Language, but found himself grappling with deeper questions about how our stories—our reporting and imaginative narratives and mythmaking—expose and distort our realities."
I haven't read any of these, but I hope you find some gems in your stack.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
Delete"that I hope to read in my lifetime"
ReplyDeleteAdmit it! You're doing this on purpose to secure yourself a long life LOL. It's neat that you found a story based in Portland. I passed on This Delicious Death because it sounded a tad too absurdist for my tastes, but now I'm curious about what you'll make of it!
What's a bargain cart?
More like enough wiggle room to NOT read them any time soon lol
DeleteA literal cart of books on sale - usually at least 50% off - the ones they are clearing off the shelves permanently.
I never ever plan my reading but a couple of my favorite authors do have new releases coming this spring, so I am looking forward to those. Sarina Bowen's Dying to Meet You, Kennedy Ryan's Can't Get Enough, and Heart of the Sun by Mia Sheridan.
ReplyDeleteI can't plan anymore. I was always a mood reader anyway - but review/scheduled reading broke me lol
DeleteLove Bowen and Ryan!
I don't plan what I read most times, I just read the next book on my Kindle. lol
ReplyDeleteI've struggled with reading the past year or so. Very few things are able to keep my attention lol
DeleteThe Cerulean Chronicles is on my TBR for someday. My daughter really enjoyed the first book as well. It's funny because I thought Chuck Tingle did parody too.
ReplyDeleteThe audio for the Cerulean books is great. I hope you like it - it's not your typical read.
DeleteDidn't Tingle write wacky like monster porn or something?? lol That's what I thought anyway. But this is a conventionally told story.
I've tried to read North Woods multiple times, but it doesn't capture my attention. Somewhere Beyond the Sea was a wonderful sequel!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least I got it cheap lol Glad to hear about the sequel. The first book was on my favorites list for that year.
DeleteThat's a great mix of books. I like how you've got a bit of everything. It'll be interesting to see what they do with sci-fi horror. Enjoy your reading! I don't know what I'm reading next since I'm a mood reader.
ReplyDeleteSame. I'm not sure when or if I'll ever even get to most of these lol
DeleteOmg princess swap, I totally want that
ReplyDeleteI think that's my one once I finish the MG I'm reading now.
DeleteI've been on hold FOREVER for Somewhere Beyond the Sea at my library. I really want to listen to it since I enjoyed the audiobook so much with the first one, but I didn't know it had sprayed edges! Now I have to buy a physical copy...
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the audio too. The first was amazing. But I couldn't resist how pretty it was in person and wanted to buy something at my local bookstore.
