Question: What is your genre of choice? Has it changed recently?

Answer: I am ALL over the place these days!

Honestly, I was never a big reader until I started this blog. I made a resolution to read one book a month and it was mostly travelogue/food memoire type stuff - like Anthony Bourdain, Under the Tuscan Sun. I had read some horror - mostly Stephen King in HS.

When I started the blog I was in my PNR Era -  vampires/weres etc. Then I flipped to all YA, then romance/romcom's. I burned out on all of them at a certain point (all reading really) and now my reading is so eclectic and random, I have no idea what I'll pick up at any given moment.

I guess I'm more into literary fiction atm, mostly because that's what's offered on libro.fm - where I get my audiobook arc's. I've read a few romances lately, a mid-grade, I just finished a very dark memoir, and I'm currently reading a light YA. Just whatever hits me at any given moment.

I think my days of binge reading a specific genre to death are over but I'm kind of happy to be reading outside my comfort zone and reading at all!!

What is your genre of choice and has it changed over time?

    2. I started out more with non fiction then I couldn't read it for years. Now I'm back to reading some. I used to be a genre binger lol I would read just one genre non -stop - burn out - move on to the next.
I'm more well rounded now and I hope that prevents an overall reader burnout.

  2. Yep, at least you're still into reading, even if with some hiatuses here and there. Then again, I think reading is one of those things that endure, one way or another.

The only thing that has changed for me in the last 10+ years is that I've been reading more and more horror, plus now my reads are roughly 50% YA and 50% adult, but the genres (I don't consider horror a genre, more like an attribute of other genres) are stills the same as when I started my blog...supernatural/magical realism and sci-fi.

    1. Hobbies come and go - I think the reading/blogging became almost job like, so I can see why I needed to step back a bit. It' snice going at my own speed now. I might add one or two "for review" books here and there, but I don't foresee myself ever going back to the level I was at before.

  3. It's great to see you reading and enjoying so many different kinds of stories. I hardly read YA any longer and am definitely reading more women's fiction. I have dabbled in literary fiction but they are hit or miss for me. I think they have a certain audience and I am not it.

    1. It's so weird, I've been able to read lit fic thanks to audiobooks. I can only read them in that format. I can't listen to romance novels or I'm at least VERY picky. Plus I'm limited to what libro.fm is offering.

  4. That's awesome that you have such a varied taste and can pick up different things. It's really hard for me to do that.

    1. It's weird for me too lol I could NEVER read literary type books int he past. I always had to at least have a romance in any genre. Audio has been a genre game changer for me.

    1. I had a few years where it was nothing but PNR. I'm sure I'll cycle back to it at some point.

  6. I am too omg. Not reading much YA and am more into mysteries/ thrillers although I'm being picky. Still some fantasy/ SF... occasionally. LAtely I've been wanting to collect and yes read some of those pulp thrillers I showcase sometimes- it shocked me that some are actually in print and sorta available, I might sprinkle a few in but yeah I'm mostly going by mood lately!
