Movie review: Mission: impossible Fallout
I gotta be honest. I don’t like Mission Impossible or Tom Cruise. So why did I see it??
Because we have a new movie theater with these seats. And I live in Florida – and it’s summer. And did I mention THESE SEATS??
So yeah – I’ll even go see MI and Tom Cruise if I get to stay indoors in the a/c in these seats.
So back to the movie…
MI Fallout is action packed, and Ethan is starting to show the strain of choosing this life and it adds some emotional depth and vulnerability to his character. The opening scene is awesome: emotional and creepy.
The gang is back and have an easy rapport at this point while adding Angela Bassett as the CIA director and Henry Cavil, as a CIA assassin who don't think Ethan is up to task, to the mix to shake things up.
I mostly liked it and I KNOW you kind of need to let logic go for these kinds of movies but…but…but…
Ethan does something so unbelievably stupid and it’s kind of the core of the story and I was just…how are you still employed????
SPOILER: > Ethan, Luther and Benji have arranged an exchange for 3 plutonium cores that goes wrong. In a stand off with the bad guys Ethan shoots Luther (who he believes is wearing a bullet proof vest and is ok) but then LEAVES THE PLUTONIUM ON THE GROUND UNATTENDED to run and check on Luther. And of course it gets stolen and puts millions of lives at risk. Bassett’s character is of course pissed and sends Cavill in to oversee this shit show and do what it takes to get that plutonium back when the time comes.
I must be an asshole – because I can’t for the life of me figure out how this makes Ethan a good agent. A good friend?? Yes! Agent – no. Fire his ass! lol < END SPOILER
Then my other peeves.
Ethan’s ex’s – Julia and Ilsa -(played by Michelle Monaghan, Rebecca Ferguson) look almost exactly alike. I thought they were the same person for most of the movie. I’m sure if you’ve seen the whole series this wouldn’t be an issue but Ethan definitely has a type.
*I also call this phenomenon the GBHG - Generic brown haired girl. Most movies have them. They play the love interest to spur the hero on and add no real value to the movie,a re easily forgotten and completely interchangeable.
Not that both of these actresses didn't do a great job with what they were given but - yeah GBHG.
Okay…okay…I know it’s an action flick and just go with it but both Ethan and August (Cavill) should have been in full body casts.
Aaaaand I know this is wrong of me but I was more of a fan of Cavill than Cruise. I’m not a fan of beards either but…yeah, it was working for me lol
I don’t think it made me a MI convert but all in all – it was a little too long, a little too preposterous but a fun movie.

Oh, I love these new seats that theaters have! So comfortable. I've never seen a whole MI film, and I don't really care for Cruise either, so I doubt I will. I'm glad some parts were fun for you but yeah, these type of movies tend to be way too unbelievable. LOL I DO however love actor Simon Pegg, so he's the aspect I'd probably enjoy the most. :)

He was fun! As was Ving Rhames.
DeleteEven though he wasn't necessarily a nice guy (and I haven't liked him in anything else) I liked Henry Cavill.
Angela Bassett was good too!
I'm horrible with action flicks or over-the-top romcoms. I just cant let go of how absurd things are lol
Love the seats!quite similiar with the seats cinema in my country. Very comfy :)
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I never watch any MI movie before even though I watch almost all other Tom Cruise movies. I dont why haha but since I heard that this is the last one of MI, I will start to put it on the next movie list to watch :)

Oh really? He was big when I was a teen - Risky Business/Top Gun but I didn't even like him then much to my friends horror lol
DeleteYeah its bubble gum and love seeing how they figure it out. I enjoyed the white widow and Elsa more than Ethan. I wanted more of their stories. Yes it was nice to see him mess up and show is age. I enjoyed Henry and Angela. I did think that scene with the masks was good to show the duplicity. Yes Ethan hunt has a type . I wanted more Benji in this movie but I didn't get it ;(
ReplyDeleteSounds like you enjoyed it more than I did. Not a bad way to stay cool inside though :-)
DeleteI don't like Tommy boy because his acting is bad. But I do like these movies. I like most of the movies he's been in I just don't like him. lol
ReplyDeleteHe does the same thing every time lol
DeleteThe one movie of his I did like was Edge of Tomorrow. Maybe because he gets his ass kicked by Emily Blunt over and over lol
I will watch it, but will I enjoy it? Eh. They are all kind of meh
ReplyDeletebUT OMG THOSE SEATS
Yeah - it's really all about the seats. What movie??? lol
DeleteI love that more theaters are coming out with those type of seats. I will go more because of that too haha
ReplyDeleteMe too! We have somewhat comfy seats at my local theater but this is next level!
DeleteOur theater has those seats and they are AMAZING! I've never seen any of the MI movies, but I'll admit the trailer for this one looks good. I'm sorry you didn't love it!
ReplyDeleteIt's like a whole new world has opened to me lol
DeleteYou look comfy!! I thought our theater was nice but we don't have seats like THAT! lol and now I want movie popcorn slathered in butter. Anyway... the movie. I'm not a MI or Cruise fan either (used to like him but not so much anymore) but glad it was fun, if silly. Yeah that spoiler thing- WOW. I can't believe they're still MAKING these movies!!
ReplyDeleteWe have the ones that serve dinner at your seat in Orlando but that's a little too far for me. This is about 45 minutes away and worth the trip!
DeleteAnd OMG that spoiler. His bosses think that's what makes him a GOOD agent and I'm like...wtf??? Nooooooo lol
Ooh I love the comfy movie seats. Totally worth going on a hot day. MI and Tom Cruise aren't my deal but glad it was fun!
ReplyDeleteIt passed a few hours lol I wish there was something better to see but it was comfy!
DeleteI've never been a fan of Tom Cruise or the Mission Impossible Movies. I think I've seen parts of the first one, but meh.
ReplyDeleteSooo… I was looking at your picture, and at first I thought you weren't wearing any pants (which is ridiculous, right), but it was just the angle of the picture. You have amazing legs, by the way. ;)
I'm going to come visit you so we can go see a movie. <3
I do try to remember to wear pants (in this case shorts) when I go out! lol
DeleteI have huge calves for some reason lol
No! You should keep rocking the shorts! Your calves are not huge -- they're lovely. <3
DeleteI don't like Tom Cruise either and I have never seen the Mission Impossible movies. But those look like nice seats! :)
ReplyDeleteThe seats are AMAZING!
DeleteI'm glad you are enjoying those awesome new movie seats, I haven't watched any mission impossible movies for a while but the trailer was excellent.
ReplyDeleteTori @ In Tori Lex
If you like those movies then you'll love this!
DeleteI remember watching the second Mission Impossible when I was a teenager but that's the only one I've seen. *shrugs*
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy watching Henry Cavill though so this may have some merit when it's out on DVD. 🙂
He's an asshole in this but I loved him lol
DeleteWhoa, fancy schmancy theater! Glad this was fun, despite the issues! I've actually never seen any MI movies that I know of!
ReplyDeleteIt was an ok way to pass the day lol I think I've seen maybe one other one?? Not sure.
DeleteOh geez. Yeah on the spoiler. smh Mission first. We have some theaters like that here but I've yet to go. Would be nice in the summer :)
ReplyDeleteIt's ridiculous. You have one job Ethan! lol
DeleteWhen I saw the title of this post my first thought was: I've never seen a MI movie, I don't care for Tom Cruise, but whatever, it's Karen and I'm still reading the post. Then I had to laugh because you started by saying exactly what I was thinking. LOL I'm not a huge fan of the whole guy-saves-the-world-against-impossible-odds movies. You summed it up when you said preposterous. But I can see the mindless entertainment value, I guess. Especially when AC, a recliner and popcorn is involved. LOL
ReplyDeleteThis comment made me laugh so hard.
DeleteI'm really not good at far fetched scenarios where people should have been dead at least 10 times already lol
Our movie theater has ultra-awesome seats as well. Makes me want to see ALL the movies! Sorry this one wasn't perfect for you, but it sounds like you liked it well enough (besides that spoiler---have to agree with you there.)
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Does yours have food too? This one doesn't but a movie theater in Orlando does. I don't think I would like that though - might get to stinky with all that food lol
DeleteYesss our movie theater just converted to this setup too. I say "just" but tbh I haven't been to a movie in like a year so I guess it was then, oops? So I do not like Tom Cruise either, and I am going to go ahead and assume that MI isn't my jam either. I read the spoiler and was cackling- like people get fired for misplacing paperwork FFS! Bwhahaha. Glad you at least got to be comfy and have some popcorn! And that it wasn't all bad!
ReplyDeleteI like these movies but I hate what they did to his wife in movie 4 so they haven't made me excited like they used to!!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a few year since I watched a MI movie. I think I saw the one where he was just getting involved with Michelle Monahan. GBHG, lol! We have a theatre that looks EXACTLY like yours in Concord CA (just north of Walnut Creek where I spend half of my life now) and it' amazing! You can order whatever from your seat and request service by pushing a button. Love it! :)
ReplyDeletei am not an action movie person (rom coms all the way--yay for its revival) so i skipped this one but i was curious about tom cruise doing all his stunts so maybe when it comes out on redbox i'll borrow it just to see
