my monday musings…
I'm struggling with the whole blogging thing right now. I get a repetitive stress (sort of like carpal tunnel) whenever I type, read on my Kindle, or use my phone too much and I did all three recently. As a result, I’ve been pretty scarce around here the past week and haven’t been able to read much because my whole arm is killing me and on top of that I've had horrible allergies.
I’m planning on just powering through today with posts for the week and commenting then rest and see how that goes.
Before my break I read Pride by Ibi Zoboi – it’s a P&P retelling and
it’s wonderful! I hope to get my review up this week.
I got a 2nd library card from the next county over just so I could get the Libby app and I’m SO excited.
My library uses RB Digital for e-books and while it’s perfectly functional, it’s difficult to find what I’m looking for and both RB Digital and my physical library have a very limited selection when it comes to what I like to read. My county is of the HP book banning variety so that should give you a clue f what I’m up against and why I’m so excited about the new card.
Just a quick search had me wanting to borrow at least a dozen books that I had been looking for. Then I remembered I have to read my arc’s this month. Doh!
Speaking of arc’s – I’m hoping to read Mary Shelley: The Strange True Tale of Frankenstein's Creator by Catherine Reef today.
Life -
Everyone is in a fall state of mind but in FL, we still have a few months to go before we get any sort of dip in the temperatures. I do notice the change starting though. The summer plants are slowing down and a few tress are dropping brightly colored leaves but September is more of a prepare for impending doom – hurricane season time of year here.
I don’t know if you remember from last winter, but my goal was to ride 10 miles on my bike. I did that and in true Karen fashion never road my bike again lol So I’m starting over and have managed 5-6 miles the past two Sundays. I’m happy with that because the heat and humidity make it much more difficult than it is in the winter.
So there’s my super boring update lol
What are you all up to this week?

I'm glad you got a new library card to use their e-books and there is much more of a choice. I'm positive I wouldn't like a library that banned HP. LOL Sorry your arm is hurting! That does make working on the computer difficult. The weather here is cold and rainy, but it's going to warm up again as the week goes on. Yay for bike riding again!

I'm SO SO SO happy about the new library.
DeleteMy local library is nice but the politicians have taken control of book decisions and it's shitty.
That Mary Shelley book looks interesting! I hope you enjoy it! And yay for extra library cards! You can never have too many options ;)
ReplyDeleteMy husband looked ip up and I just needed to be a FL resident. And since I only wanted it for e-books and audio it's a great option!
DeleteWohoo for another library card ;) Though I do wish the library ebooks were better here
ReplyDeleteI don't have the greatest selection but much improved from my local library.
DeleteI hope your break helps. I'm struggling because I don't have the focus.
ReplyDeleteI love me some libby. Do you use hoopla as well?
I only have RB Digital and now Libby.
DeleteI'm going to have to check out the Libby app, I think mine has it, but have no clue lol
ReplyDeleteFor me, it has way more than RB Digital and is much easier to use.
DeleteOuch! I run into the carpal tunnel issues when I do repetitive stuff like that, too. Hope you're able to get past it soon.
ReplyDeleteNeat that you now have access to Libby. I like it so far.
Way to go on building back up your miles on your bike. I wilt in heat so you're my heroine right now. :)
Have a good week, Karen!
We go REALLY early and I'm dying on the trip back because the sun and humidity start kicking in already lol
DeleteOuch! The carpal-tunnel-like problem sucks - not to mention the arm. We definitely type too much...
ReplyDeleteI've had an ache in my neck for a month - it usually gets worse when I go to bed (though it lets me sleep...but more often than not, in the morning I can't turn my head). The doctor says it might be muscle-related, but after a month of anti-inflammatory drugs and no improvement whatsoever, I'm afraid it's a hernia...I have a X-ray appointment on Wednesday, so we'll see.
I hope you'll be hurricane-free as much as it's possible in your corner of the world...as for your bike, GET YOUR ASS IN GEAR! LOL. (Says the one who never leaves her seat. I'm lucky I'm not one to put on weight...).
I got a new phone so in addition to the Kindle, setting up the phone did my in. It's over use of my thumb to tap and hold things that starts it. then the pain goes up my arm and then neck. Rest, and stretches really help me but it still takes time.
DeleteI need a less hilly trail to ride. It's FL so it' snot like we have mountains or anything but even slight hills do me in. I could go much farther if it was completely flat lol
So sorry to hear about your arm and hand Karen, hopefully it's nothing too serious and you'll be pain free again soon. If it persists, might be a good idea to pop into the doctor just incase. She might be able recommend pain relief so you feel a little more at ease ♡♡♡
ReplyDeleteEh - it happens from overuse. I just rest it and do stretches and it heals.
DeleteGreat you found a work around for better library privileges. I'm really happy my library has hoopla which lets me listen to audiobooks for free. Also happy to hear you enjoyed Pride, that book had been everywhere.
ReplyDeleteTori @ In Tori Lex
I don't really do audiobooks but Libby is SO much better for that than RB Digital so I'm hoping to give it another try.
DeleteAw sorry to hear about the stress injury. Those are a pain, especially when they interfere w/ important things like blogging lol. Seriously though, hope it goes away (or gets better) soon...
ReplyDeleteGood luck w/ the riding!
It's more annoying that anything. The cure is to not use it which isn't really practical and I need to blog damn it! lol
DeleteI have a condition in my thumb and carpel tunnel in my wrists. I only hold my Kindle as I read if I must, otherwise I prop it up or place it on a pillow on my lap as I read. I hope you find some relief. I am glad you enjoyed Pride. I thought it was great too.
ReplyDeleteMy issue is my thumb too. Once it starts then it heads up my whole arm and neck if I can't rest it. I prop up my Kindle and laptop too. There's no way I can hold it. My problem is tapping to turn the page - I have to remind myself to use a different hand/finger - and my phone. I just got a new one and setting it all up basically killed my thumb lol
DeleteAh that sucks about the arm strainy issues! Have a good rest week and fingers crossed it passes. ☹️
ReplyDeleteLast time I rode a bike was in high school and I rode 10 miles or so around Millport island (off the coast of Scotland) for charity with a bunch of fellow seniors. We did it with no preamble or training (as stupid 17/18 yo's do) and i swear to god i felt like I was dying. I swore never again and have kept to it all these years, lol.
I wish you luck in building back up to it (but think you're a little bit mad! 😝)
lol I'm definitely crazy for doing it in this heat even though I go super early in the morning.
DeleteI'm wearing tennis elbow supports as I type this, so I feel your pain. Feel better <3 Yay about your 2nd library card!
ReplyDeleteI know you have a similar issue Kristen. It sucks because at some point you need to use your arms/hands.
DeleteI would love to read The Strange True Tale of Frankenstein's Creator. I will have to add that to my list. Good luck with the bike riding. Hopefully the weather will cool off soon in FL. It's still very hot and humid here in GA most days too.
ReplyDeleteI started it yesterday and I'm sad to say it was super boring :-((
DeleteOh no! I hope you start to feel better soon. :(
ReplyDeleteI am in the same boat with you. There is no real fall here. It's been high 90's the last couple of days which I suppose could count as feeling like the beginnings of fall. :rolls eyes: I'm going to drink hot cider and make pumpkin rolls regardless of the heat.
I'm ignoring it and plowing through too. If I keep thinking it's fall I will make it happen! lol
DeleteWhenever I get that issue with my hand and wrist I have to get my wrist support on for a few days until it goes! I get a lot of that pins and needles tingling through my wrist and hand which is annoying. My wrist support is great as I can still use my fingers to type and it has a metal peice along the top of the hand which helps straighten out the nerves and stop that tingling. I rely on that a lot!
ReplyDeleteThis is more my thumb - from page turning on the Kindle and using my phone and the support brace hasn't helped with it unfortunately. They call it texting thumb lol
DeleteI try to catch it before it shoots up to my neck but I got a new phone and setting it up did me in.
Sorry you're struggling to blog/read that sucks but you rest up a bit and hopefully the break will mean less pain for you. And Pride! That was one of my most anticipated books and I am currently on a quest to convince my library to buy a copy. I hope you get a review up soon to convince me I should instead think about getting it myself instead. Good for you riding your bike again, I am trying to walk places a little more as my September goal. I got back from NYC and did so much walking there that I want to try and keep my steps up. I'm debating buying a fitness tracker to try and help motivate me.
ReplyDeleteA pretty pic at least :) Ha on the biking. Yes, that sounds like something I would do with my walking plans. Hopefully things will cool down for all of us soon.
