HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
This is my absolute favorite holiday! After today I start to get cranky about all the Christmas stuff. I’m a real life Grinch. lol
I planned on some spooky reading but it didn’t really pan out but here are two Halloween themed romance stories (the first is of the sexy variety – the second just kissing) and a potentially spooky read that I started last night.
Mating the Huntress by Talia Hibbert
This Halloween, love bites back… hard.
Chastity Adofo knows a monster when she sees one. As soon as Luke Anthony wanders into her family’s coffee shop, she recognises the evil lurking beneath his charming smile and fantastic arse. The handsome werewolf is determined to have her—but she’s determined to cut out his heart.
Little does she know, Luke’s plans for her are far more pleasurable than murder. And when the full moon rises, all bets are off…
Warning: Mating the Huntress is 30,000+ words of red-hot, Halloween-themed romance. This novella contains one flirtatious, cursed creature of the night, one badass, knife-happy heroine, and forbidden lust at first sight. Please read responsibly! ~ Goodreads

My thoughts:
Sexy as hell fated mate romance between a werewolf and a huntress set during Halloween so perfect for October reading.
Luke was sufficiently growly and possessive of his new found mate but he was also sweet, tender, and respectful of her feelings. He was too darn cute for words, and Chas was tough, kind and intelligent.
Geeky, Freaky, Clueless by G.G. Andrews
Phineas Harrington was Vina Penjarla's first real kiss. But when she discovers the gorgeous Brit is the new theater director she'll be working with, things get super complicated. After all, Vin knows nothing about this dating stuff. And as her attraction for the sweet and intelligent guy grows, so does her fear that he's keeping a big, dark secret.
But what if Vin has a secret of her own? ~ Goodreads

My thoughts: I always look forward to the latest release to this fun Halloween themed romance series. I wish there was a little more Halloween to this story but otherwise both Phineas and Vin were super cute together as they try to get over their awkwardness – and the fact that Phin might be a serial killer. The series is on KU and the first book – Crazy, Sexy, Ghoulish takes place in a seasonal haunted house.
Flesh by Laura Bickle
The dead are easy to talk to. Live people, not so much.
Charlie Sulliven thinks she knows all the secrets of the dead. Raised in a funeral home, she’s the reluctant “Ghoul Girl,” her reputation tied to a disastrous Halloween party. But navigating her life as a high school sophomore is an anxiety-inducing puzzle to her. She haunts the funeral home with her parents, emo older brother, Garth, their pistol-packing Gramma, and the glass-eyeball-devouring dachshund, Lothar.
Chewed human bodies are appearing in her parents’ morgue…and disappearing in the middle of the night. The bodies seem tied to a local legend, Catfish Bob, who has resurfaced in the muddy Milburn river near Charlie’s small town. When one of Charlie’s classmates, Amanda, awakens in the cooler as a flesh-eating ghoul, Charlie must protect her newfound friend and step up to unravel the mystery…and try to avoid becoming lunch meat for the dead. ~ Goodreads

My thoughts: I’m reading this one right now and it’s kind of younger skewing than I expected.
Charlie is the daughter of a coroner and lives at her parents funeral home. There’s a lot of set up which has been kind of boring TBH but things seem to be picking up as bodies are doing weird things – like moving. There’s a funny dachshund that tries to run away with body parts of the Dearly Departed and interesting side characters so I think it will be fun once the plot kicks in.
And it’s also the day that I torture my pets. They’ve been sick over the weekend (they’re ok now!) so I only managed last minute costumes but ehhh…still cute.
Fonzi is some kind of fairy/unicorn hybrid (he wanted to eat the feathers the whole time) and Indy is being basic lol He’s 16 and done with this silly costume business. He used to LOVE dressing up though.
These are some of my past dog costumes when we had Indy, Beau & Lily.
Have you been reading anything spooky? Do you do anything to celebrate the day?
I haven't actually read anything scary lately. Back in September, I finally read Joe Hill's Nos4a2. That was just gory not so much spooky.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, curious about the growly male on top. Lol.
I've been meaning to read Hill!
DeleteGrowly guy is growly but sweet. Even makes cupcakes! lol
I am glad your pets are feeling better! I love the sound of Mating the Huntress. Sometimes you just need a good sexy werewolf book ;) Flesh sounds great to me too, but if the YA book is on the young side I tend to not enjoy it so I am going to have to pass on that one :/
ReplyDeleteIt's been sooooo long since I've read PNR. This was a fun way to dip my toes back in.
DeleteMating the Huntress is on my TBR so glad to see you enjoyed it and it's a good sexy read. I won't be reading it over Halloween but a good read for the darker nights I think.
ReplyDeleteAn d I love that you torture your pets with dress up. My dog just gives me a dirty look and starts chewing on anything we try to dress him in. Your dogs look impressive though! Maybe I should have tried dress up when my dog was a puppy.
Indy used to LOVE getting dressed up and going trick or treating. The more elaborate the better. He's 16 and just wants to sleep now. lol
DeleteHaha , love the dogs :D
ReplyDeleteXmas! I do love it but damn it, it is SO FREAKING STRESSFUL
I am not a Christmas person lol
DeleteHappy Halloween. I am totally with you on the whole Christmas thing. I dont look forward to it. I love the dog costumes. Glad to hear your dogs are back on their feet.
ReplyDeleteThanks. They kept getting sick one right after the other. UGH
DeleteYour pets have the best Halloween costume, Harry Potter and Doctor Seuss are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteHalloween is my favorite holiday but this year I've been oddly ready for the holiday season. Maybe it's because I've been celebrating Halloween since September.
I've been meaning to give Talia Hibbert a try but I'm always reluctant for read werewolf books. I don't have a good track record with shifter books.
The Dr. Seuss was my first. We had to make everything for all those costumes. Now they have everything in the stores!
DeleteCreepy doll is creepy but omg the dogs are adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is! As soon as I saw her I wanted to get her to hold my books for a pic lol
DeleteI have read none of those book, but those dog pictures made me squeal with delight.
ReplyDelete:-)
DeleteLOOK AT THE CUTE DOGGIES!!!! <3<3<3
ReplyDeleteThe poor things :-)
DeleteHappy Halloween!!! I love Halloween so much, will be sorry to see it pass. :(
ReplyDeletePoor Fonzi...
Me tooooo! I wish it would last longer.
DeleteI love Halloween but I don't do the horror movies or books lol. I'm a big ole chicken to be honest. I prefer the documentaries on haunted castles and stuff. My sister bought Hayley a hotdog costume to match her dog's (We are hoping to move closer to her so the dogs can meet. Hayley loves little dogs and my sister's dog loves everyone).
ReplyDeleteI don't mind scary things. My husband wore me down on that front lol
DeleteHaley looked adorable in her costume.
I don't think the first two would be for me, but I'm glad you liked them! And the third one sounds cute lol. I love the photos of your dogs!
ReplyDeleteThe third book is kind of fun. A lot of set up but I think it will end up being good - if a little on the young side.
DeleteOh my god, those Halloween costumes are so cute. I'm loving the Harry Potter one from years past. I love Halloween - it's my favorite. Unfortunately, I didn't feel so great yesterday, but the rest of the month was pretty awesome. :) And I do love spooky reads - I didn't get as many in as I wanted this past month, but oh well, I'll just keep reading them. :)

I'll probably read all things scary in December when I should be reading light and fluffy lol
DeleteYour pups are the best! And no worries, I read enough scary books for both of us in October :) I'm going to need something less horrific real soon.
ReplyDeleteYou've really inspired me to read more horror - but the timing coincided with all my ALA books so I haven't been able to yet lol
DeleteOh my goodness. That photo you posted on IG was so creepy! I had meant to comment on it when I saw it but I was running around the house getting ready for my Halloween party. The pups looked adorable btw. <3
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYour dogs are so darn cute.
ReplyDeleteThey're so funny - and tolerant of their mom
DeleteNext time, lead with the dog photos! That doll is super creepy. I couldn't even focus on the books in her hand, because the need to scroll down on the page was overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteUgh, stores are already preparing for Christmas and it's obnoxious.
Lindsi @ Do You Dog-ear?
She's hanging in my kitchen right now lol
DeleteLINDSI!!! They had Christmas music playing at Michael's already and then a Christmas commercial was on tv last night. No, no, no, no.....
Your dog pictures are so adorable! Fonzi is so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you - he's a ham when it comes to the camera lol
DeleteI'm thinking I just might have to pick up Mating the Huntress! ;) I hadn't heard of any of these books. How did Flesh end up? Love the pictures of your dogs in costume. Looks like they're good sports. :) I hope your Halloween was awesome, Karen!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had some awesome halloween reading plans, also your pets are tolerating the costume well. My cat would attack me and everyone else if I ever tried to dress her up.
ReplyDeleteTori @ In Tori Lex
Your dogs are gorgeous and incredibly patient to tolerate costumes, lol. I love the older pics with the HP style glasses. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't read any Halloween themed reads last month. Moving sucked all that out of me. However, we actually got trick or treaters in this part of the village which was awesome!
Awww, sounds like you guys had a wonderful Halloween. Love the unicorn Fonzi <3
