Question: How do you choose what to read next?
Answer: Quick, boring answer...
I'm a mood reader and I have almost entirely eliminated review books so it's whatever hits me at the moment.
I think mood reading is key to getting the most out of your reading. When I set my weekly TBR, it's a combination of mood and deadlines. BUT, I will switch it up if things aren't working.
ReplyDeleteMy latest thing seems to be reading 3 books at one time - audio, physical and kindle - so when I finish one I just look through what I have to choose the next book.
DeleteIf I do take on a review book, I try to accept one I can read and review right then so my mood doesn't change by the time it comes out lol
Yup. Exactly. Sometimes, I choose books based on challenges I'm participating in and book club. But, mostly, it's based on mood. If I'm not feeling a book, there's no amount of obligation that will get me to read it unless I want to be in a reading slump. :)
ReplyDeleteI used to be so good reading on a schedule but once the slumps started that was that. I can't even take on review books anymore.
DeleteYep, same here, Karen. That's why I never (well, rarely) bother with any kind of TBR. They're pretty pointless for me because I never know what I'm going to feel like starting from one day to the next.
ReplyDeleteI used to be (mostly) able to read on schedule but no more lol
DeleteI usually read whatever is next on my Kindle. Or if I have some print books I may read those depending on what I have.
ReplyDeleteSame Mary!
DeleteWhen you go to pick a book based on mood, do you pick from your TBR, look at the library, go shopping, pick a new release?
ReplyDeleteFor audio - I'll go to my libro.fm alc downloads or hoopla, kindle I'll just see what I have on there and pick, physical I just look around and see if anything grabs my attention.
DeleteThere's always an impulse buy if I see a review or get a rec.
I'm a mood reader too although I usually have at least next 2 or 3 planned out...
ReplyDeleteI often have a few in mind but I'm mostly winging it.
DeleteGood answer! Do what works for you
ReplyDeleteIt's the only way!
DeleteThat's the best way to do it! I hope to get back to doing it that way one day.
ReplyDeleteIf I tried to force myself now, I'd probably quit reading altogether. My brain just can't be forced anymore lol
DeleteYeah I don't do too many ARC's any more either unless its an author I know I will enjoy. I have become a mood reader so I am pretty lose on my monthly and weekly TBR's. The best way to read is off of a mood in my opinion, guarantees more chances of enjoyment.
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteYeah, I'm a mood reader too. I also have a short attention span and little patience atm so I have a handful of books on the go all at the same time nowadays so I can jump back and forth as the mood suits.
ReplyDeleteThis is me right now!
DeleteI used to read so fast that I never juggled books but now....ugh lol
LOL! I'm also a mood reader Karen. I do some buddy reading and book clubs, but that still all fits my mood really. I accept VERY few review books that are time sensitive because my life does not have space for reading deadlines.
ReplyDeleteThis is me now. Scheduled reading killed the joy of reading for me. I just can't do it anymore.
DeleteI have had certain reading themes for each month for about four or five years now, so it helps me narrow my choices. 📚
ReplyDeleteYou're so good at that! I can't do that. It makes me run away from the subject lol
