Question: Do you read middle grade books? Why or why not?
Answer: Not many, but I do! This is what I have listed on my goodreads mid-grade shelf.
The All Four Stars trilogy by Tara Dairman was my first mid-grade (recommended by a fellow blogger because it's all about food!). It's a about a pint sized food critic and aspiring chef. Just adorable!
Ivy Aberdeen's Love Letter to the World by Ashley Herring Blake is just a beautiful story about family love and self acceptance. It's also one of the rare LGBQT mid-grade books out there.
The Zombie Problem trilogy by K.G. Campbell is flawed but is still an adorable, quirky series that I enjoyed a lot.
I don't really seek out mid-grade books but if it's something that catches my eye I have no issues giving it a try.
Do you read mid-grade books?
Meanwhile I haven't read any!
ReplyDeleteNone??? Well, you will soon lol
DeleteI have only read Ivy Aberdeen from your list, but I have enjoyed so many wonderful middle grades books. The authors tend to write "issues" better than YA or adult authors. I never feel they are preachy which is how I feel about most YA these days.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Mid-grade has a way of dealing with the issues in a quieter but more powerful (imo) way because you can't fall on angst or tropes as much.
DeleteMiddle grade just isn't something I'm drawn to. But I love the artwork on some of those covers.
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of beautiful artwork in some.
DeleteI used to read more MG when I started blogging but I've gotten away from it. They have the best covers though sometimes. :)
ReplyDeleteOne I really liked was The Fantastic secret of Owen Jester. There's even a trailer! Remember book trailers lol?

Oh thanks for the rec. I mostly got them for review but now I like them.
DeleteI don't really read the genre often, but I have read a few that others recommended!
ReplyDeleteIt's not something I sought out originally but I've read so many good ones that I'll try any that people recommend.
DeleteI don't usually read this genre.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would have either if people hadn't sent them to me lol They were all great though.
DeleteLove seeing the love for these, I don't read the genre except to read to my nephews, so I will have to add these to my list for them.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would have ever read any without prodding but I'm glad I did.
DeleteI read some middle grade as well. I mostly read YA and adult, though, leaning more toward the adult side. :D
ReplyDeleteThat's my preference as well, but I'm always happy to squeeze one in. I haven't been disappointed.
DeleteThey always have the cutest covers
ReplyDeleteThey do! This is how I wish they would do illustrated covers for adult books. Obviously more mature - but not just a splash of color with scripty font. Put some thought into it.

ReplyDeleteGood to know! I hope more and more MG authors will take a chance on writing about gender/sexuality issues.
It's done in a very sweet, understated way but it's nice to see.
DeleteFrom Jen: It's been a while since I've read middle grade. I did read with my kids when they were in elementary. There are some pretty good options for kids these days!
ReplyDeleteThe books are so well done and are really thoughtful.
DeleteSo, not often, but every once in awhile. My kids used to enjoy reading them with me, but now it is a struggle to get them to, so I read almost none at this point, but I hope to again at some point! Dusti Bowling and KA Holt have been fan favorites for both me and my daughter!
ReplyDeleteI don't have kids so they aren't anything I've read but a few come my way and they've been fantastic.
DeleteI read a ton of MG. They're my decompress reads, like some people read paperback Romance novels or cozy mysteries. I get easy reading, but they still have some meat to their subject matter. 🤗
ReplyDeleteThe ones I've read were very, very good and had great messages.
DeleteI do! Not tons, but I do want to read more because I keep seeing so many good ones. I loved Ivy Aberdeen too - and I want to read more of her MG books.

I'm the same but I've loved what I've read.
