Question: What were your expectations when you started blogging?
Answer: I had ZERO expectations when I started blogging. It was 2010 and there wasn't even a "book" blogging community. For me, it was more a way of journaling my thoughts about music, movies, TV, books and life.
It never even occurred to me that total strangers would see my posts or care enough to follow or comment.
It's kind of good in a way, because I just went with the flow and we were all learning how to do this together. No expectations = no pressure!
So true! You started before mebut isn't it wild how we're still doing this???
ReplyDeleteI think it's the longest hobby I've ever had lol
DeleteAlso...I found the e-book so I'll start Radio Silence tomorrow. My reading is fairly slow so my goal is 2-3 chapters a day. Does that work for you?
That's more than fine. My reding is down too so 2-3 chapters is perfect...
DeleteI think having no expectations is great. Then you are never disappointed. I just wanted to chat about books. I am glad to have a handful of people willing to talk to me
ReplyDeleteI barely even read back then! It's crazy that I ended up being a reviewer.
DeleteThat's true for me as well. I never thought anyone else would read my blog or that I would make so many friends.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I found you and your blog. When I first made my blog it was a dare between me and several other people. We thought it would be fun to see what we could come up with to blog about. I'm the only one who still had my blog out of the 5 of us who started.
That's awesome! And that you lasted. I think from my very original group of friends - only Linda (Blodeuedd) is the only one still with me.
DeleteI started because I had an opinion on everything back then lol and my husband got sick if hearing it so I thought I would at least get it out of my system. Reviewing and everything else came much later.

Honestly I was just hoping to connect with other readers and share what I loved. Nothing too high though in terms of expectations.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even really post much about books at the time. I didn't know it was a thing lol
DeleteI also started in 2010, but unlike you, I attribute it to being in the "book community." I started with Twitter in 2009 and met fellow readers and several authors. It seemed like everyone had a blog, so I wanted one too. But it wasn't to review books, just chat. And now here I am...
ReplyDeleteI had no idea it existed! It took about 2 months for my first new follower and comments. I didn't even look for other blogs.
DeleteI just thought I'd vent and write my own thoughts just for me.
Happy turn of events though!
I started back in 2007 I guess? I don't think I really had expectations either. LOL An online friend of mine actually set up the first blog on blogpost and we started with music first, but it wasn't long before adding in books.

I remember your blog way back. You did a lot more music. I'm glad we're still here!
Delete"It never even occurred to me that total strangers would see my posts or care enough to follow or comment."
ReplyDeleteWell, I did hope they would, but as you know...it's not like I was expecting to become successful.
By "2010" you don't mean the politics blog, right?
No, this one. I only wrote one or two posts for the other and never went public with it.
DeleteFor this one, I was completely unaware of book blogging. I looked at it more as a journal.
Same! I just wanted somewhere to yell about books heh. For awhile though, sometime around the "pinnacle" of book blogging if you will, I had hoped to be "big". But alas. I am fine with it now hahah.
ReplyDeleteI always felt you WERE one of the big blogs! As long as we are in our happy place about it now.
DeleteNo expectations is awesome
ReplyDeleteDon't expect much - no dissapointment lol
DeleteI started my blog by accident, so I also had zero expectations and nary a clue what I was doing. 😅
ReplyDeleteSometimes ignorance is best lol
